Welcome to our DonorsChoose.org Community! Join us in supporting students in need by making a donation of any size to one of the worthy projects below. We all know of the struggles that the people of Flint, Michigan are facing right now due to the water crisis. I currently work in a school in Flint and the majority of my students are affected by this. I wanted to start this page to help support classrooms and students in Flint in order to do my part to help make a difference in these student’s lives. I will list 5-10 projects on this page from classrooms in schools that are highest poverty level in Flint, Michigan. hide
Since receiving the STEM projects the students have learned many skills. They better understand the engineering process to identify the problem, plan, test and redesign. Many had never had a chance to experiment with solving engineering problems that the kits provided. A few of the many challenges that the kits provided gave them the opportunity to build chairs for Goldilocks and the three bears and to build a bridge for the three billy goats gruff. They also got to hear those classic stories that were not familiar to many of the students.
We use these kits in centers, usually every Monday. Up to four students are at each center with one kit. They had to first identify the problem, discuss and draw a plan, work together to put their plan into action, evaluate their results and then resigned. Then after 40 minutes they rotated to the next center.
All of my students loved using the kits. Honestly, there was not one student in the class who did not enjoy solving the challenges. It was by far the most popular thing that we did all year, and even during indoor recess the students would ask if they could complete some challenges from the kits. These kits enriched the students lives and kept them so engaged, I can't express how much the kits added to my classroom.”

Thank you so much for your generosity! The students were so excited for new school supplies and have been taking excellent care of them. Having their own supplies have given my students a sense of responsibility within the classroom.
The work students are turning in has much more color and detail. Their desks are more organized with use of the pencil boxes and folders. My students feel better and more successful because of you!
We are ending our year making hanger mobile based on their favorite book this year. I can't wait to see how they turn out with the supplies we were given!”

It is already exciting to see my hungry students, not so hungry. They are comforted knowing there are snacks waiting for them. When I took the photos, students were so engaged in learning because they knew they were able to eat a snack. It was really nice to see them provided with things to eat, whenever they want to eat. Many come to class super hungry. They are provided breakfast and lunch, as well as dinner, if they are in after school programs. Yet, many of my 6th graders are older now. They are going through changes and growth spurts that make them extra hungry. So, they aren't always focused on learning. In fact, I have several students that tower over me and their need for nutrition and food is beyond the scope provided here at school. Therefore, I really appreciate your kindness in providing this basic need. Then, they can simply focus on learning. It is such a relief not to worry about their hunger anymore. I appreciate your generosity. It is so thoughtful.”

Thank you for your donation to my classroom. We are loving the read aloud books. Today we got to read one and make connections to the story. I loved hearing how the students could connect the story to things going on in their own lives. Thank you for your generosity. Not only are we using these books this year but we can use them for years to come.
Michigan is pushing the 10 essentials for literacy right now. Interactive read aloud are one part of this. Without these books I would not be able to hit this important standard with my kids. The best part is how much they enjoy being read to! They do not even realize we are doing work, they enjoy it every day.”

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. Thank you for helping to ensure my students have a better learning experience in the classroom. We will use this daily to enhance the students learning through varied subjects. Your generosity will continue to help my students for years to come.
Getting the apple tv will greatly help my students excel in their learning and take an active role in their education on various activities. Keeping my students' focus can be a struggle, and this apple tv has made it so much easier for them because use it in various ways throughout the lessons to keep the students engaged.”

Thank you for contributing to an organized classroom. It is so nice to have places for 80+ students to put their papers and folders. Plus, they can look at the charts for reminders for reading strategies and climate signs. Also, stickers are so exciting. Even my sixth graders are interested in seeing which tests they were successful at and which sticker is posted next to it. Finally, the 'Answer Boards' are thrilling. Students are able to write their word answers or picture answers. They can test one another and it makes for fun and engaging lesson practice. Then, there is no pressure because they can simply wipe off the board and try again! We currently have displays up from their history presentations. We will design and create bulletin boards with the new paper and boarders. We are looking forward to that still.
Thank you again for your thoughtfulness. It really impacts the classroom!”

Thanks to your donations my classroom has new mindfulness posters that not only decorate the space, but serve as reminders throughout the day. I was able to laminate our learning targets and post them, which makes lessons so much easier to stay on target! Our bulletin board also got an update with new borders and a fun fresh inspirational welcome message.
The dry erase boards have created so many learning opportunities. They are able to share their ideas and answers non-verbally, and I have been able to create activities that are engaging and dynamic now that every child has a white board and marker. No more socks cut up, we even have real erasers! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Me and my students are so thankful for the calculators. Students have said "Have you thanked Mr. James yet?" They have said "Tell Mr. James thank you from me!"
They are using the calculators every day. They are learning how to use the features that aren't on a basic calculator. They were delighted to find a "pi" button!" Students say the calculators work great.
Once again, thanks for investing in our classroom, our students, and our community. We are very blessed to have a school angel. Don't grow weary in doing good.”
Thank you very much for donating to our reading project to get book bags for our students in my classroom. The students are now better able to keep track of their reading books and materials in a more organized fashion. They are able to keep their books that are at their own individual levels in their own bags so that they do not get mixed up with the other students books. This is helping my students to have more time for practicing reading instead of searching for their books. It is therefore leading them to become better readers. Thank you so much for your help!”

What a blessing you have to my students! They have been able to grow as readers comfortably. They ask everyday if they can sit on the carpet during our silent reading time. Our class carpet is treasured by everyone! Our custodian is even making sure the carpet is getting taken care of! She is protective of it because she along with myself know what a gift this was to our kids. Many of my students come from homes that have very little of anything. So this has been a tremendous lesson in caring for items so that they last. I am forever grateful for your generosity for my classroom and students.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Davis
