  • It's A Small, Small World

    Funded Oct 24, 2012

Your generous donations allowed my students to view an exciting hidden world!

They loved looking at phytoplankton and zooplankton specimens under their new microscopes. The colorful and informational posters helped them to identify types of plankton as well.

The digital microscope is an excellent teaching tool! The process of petrification became more clear to students when they could actually see the individual cells of wood. This led to a deeper understanding of how mineralization turns once living things into fossils. Students then actually studied real fossils with their new hand lenses.

I'm excited to create more real-world learning experiences for my classes with these wonderful resources. Thank you again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Petrelli

  • We Want Your Help! Fabulous First Graders Need Laptops!

    Funded Oct 10, 2012

Thank you for gifting our class with three new laptops and a nook! The district's technicians have enabled the wi-fi making our computer center and nook fully operational. Thanks to your generous donations, students can practice addition and subtraction facts with online flashcards. My class also enjoys playing Splat Square online. The gameboard is a hundreds chart with cool sound effects. I used this website everyday when I was teaching students to count by 2's and 10's, identify 10 more, 10 less, one more, and one less than a given number. My first graders enjoyed changing the paint colors as they picked a number to hear a funny splat sound. We also use the laptops to give an average of 10 Accelerated Reader tests per day! The laptops are used for many activities and have enhanced learning and productivity in my classroom.

Thank you for funding our Color Nook too! The Math Blasters app is the most popular game in my room. Students must quickly press the answer to addition and subtraction math problems as they move through space. Some students would rather play this math game than go to recess. Our new technology in our classroom is sensational! I can't thank Chevron enough for making this wonderful grant possible. Thank you from 32 excited first graders and their very happy teacher.”

  • Financial Literacy: Growing Up to be Successful!

    Funded Oct 25, 2012

Thank you for supporting our financial literacy project! My students enjoy using the Hot Dot pens and math cards to learn about coin values and adding three numbers

together. My students especially like the talking pens. Using the Nook to do mini-

math lessons has definately motivated my first grade class. They love using Nook technology because it is interactive and they enjoy playing math games. Math Blasters is their favorite game. It is so popular that many students want to stay in for recess to play this motivating math game! One parent told me that their son asked for a Nook for a Christmas gift, so he could play Math Blasters at home.

I have also used the giant coin bulletin board set to teach the values of the coins by counting by 5's . I put two dot stickers on a dime, and teach my students to say 5, 10. A nickel gets one dot, and a quarter gets five dots. This is a concrete way for students to learn coin values and add numbers together. We are also thankful for the Money Bingo game, coin stamps and pads, Match and Learn Money Game, and Allowance CD game. A lot of donors came together to support my first grade class. We appreciate your kindness and promise to use our new math manipulatives to learn math facts. Thanks to your generous gift, many future students will also have access to these wonderful math resources.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kunzler

  • Improve Reading With Time Magazine And A Printer

    Funded Oct 22, 2012

Thank you for gifting our class six headphones with volume controls, 34 weekly magazine subscriptions, and an effcient HP printer/color copier. The new headphones fit my first graders and are comfortable to wear. This has made my listening center run smoothly because kids no longer try to adjust the headphones. I will also be able to use the headphones with our i-pads and Nooks. My class will be exposed to many stories thanks to your generosity!

We would also like to thank you for purchasing 34 copies of Time For Kids Magazine. My students love the vivid pictures and interesting topics found in our new weekly magazines. As a teacher I love how the magazines motivate children to read non-fiction text on their grade level. Students also practice high frequency words that are important learning goals in first grade.

Last but not least, we say thank you for our productive HP printer and color copier. We use our new printer daily for printing practice papers for Accelerated Math and Accelerated Reading. The other day, our main printer broke. Due to your generosity, our class was able to print all work on our new printer. No productivity was lost thanks to our new printer. We appreciate your kindness and wonderful gifts. Happy Holidays!”

  • Charge It

    Funded Nov 2, 2012

The 150 sixth grade GATE students are very appreciative of your donation, as am I. We have been planning to do a photography unit for a long time, and now we can finally get started.

We had already acquired some of the supplies for our photography unit, but we were missing one critical piece--batteries.

Your donation has enabled us to have enough rechargeable batteries for all of the cameras and have chargers to go with them. We are all very excited to get started with all of the creative ideas the students have come up with.”

  • Entering The Digital Age

    Funded Sep 4, 2012

The 150 sixth grade GATE students you're helping out with this project are just absolutely thrilled. They can't wait to get started on our photography unit. They have so many great ideas it's going to be hard to do all of them.

Our unit will start with photography basics and build upon that. The curiosity and excitement with the students is evident whenever you see them using the equipment.

We've been waiting a long time to do a photography unit and thanks to you we can finally start. This could be the spark for a future award winning photographer.”

  • Speaking With a Terrific Tablet Part 2

    Funded Oct 16, 2012

Dear Cynthia Purcell, Gena Evola, Abbi and Cheveron,

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my speech therapy program, for my students with special needs. The tablets that you have donated help my students to learn every single day. We have used our new Samsung Tablets to work on our overall speech and language skills and communication skills. My students love to work on their goals implemented from individual education plan (IEP), by using apps, such as "Buddy Bear", where they receptively and expressively answer 'wh' questions, solve problems, predict what will happen next, sequence pictures to tell stories, compare objects and more! They also enjoy the SLP Pocket application, in which they are able to see placement of their articulators (teeth, tongue, and lips) and practice their speech sounds with interactive pictures.

Thank you for helping me change the way that my students communicate, while making it fun! Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms and speech pathologists in the United States would go without.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roberts

  • Cultivate Creativity in 1st Grade

    Funded May 2, 2012

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the Lilly, Sarah, Grace Foundation for helping many students create art in schools across the country. My students enjoyed learning about numbers by creating art pictures using our number rubbing plates and rubbing crayons. We use our new colored pencils daily to draw characters

from storybooks and to write sentences describing their adventures. In the spring, students will make and paint Plaster of Paris heart boxes to give as a present to their mom. My students enjoyed making teddy bears with colorful oil pastels. During January, my lucky students will make vibrant snowmen with our new pastels. The neon bendable sticks have helped my young readers identify beginning, middle and ending sounds during a shared reading of big books. This is just the beginning of the year. I plan to do the fun art projects that would make Sarah, Lilly and Grace Proud! Many generous people came together to help my fabulous first grade students. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Your wonderful gift makes learning both interesting and fun!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kunzler

  • Art Smart In First Grade

    Funded Aug 10, 2012

Thank you for supporting art projects in my classroom! We have used the No-Tip Water Pots to paint scarecrows, sunflowers, bats, pumpkins, and cats. As a teacher, I love the versatility of the craft trays. We use them daily during center time. We also used them with our new design rollers to make beautiful borders for a writing project. Since Halloween is around the corner, the students will use our new wiggle eyes on a paper plate spider project. As a teacher I enjoy products that keep us organized and clean. The collage caddies store small supplies such as crayons, pencils, stickers, and paper scraps. The colorful magnetic clips worked perfectly on my magnetic boards to display our Columbus art plates. I have used the glimmer stickers as prizes and the kids are collecting them in their own sticker books. This grant has made learning fun for my students. Thank you for this generous gift!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kunzler

  • Fired up for Math: Kindle Fire To Spark the Learning

    Funded Apr 4, 2012

Since the arrival of the Kindle Fires, my class has been eager and excited to learn with our new technology. On behalf of my students we thank your generosity and support of making learning more accessible and fun by using the Fires. We have installed many new apps and books on our new Fires.

Currently, we are studying about factors in math class. I found some apps to provide extra practice for students on this concept. The students now use this app as they practice learning their factors of numbers. I was also able to find a few apps on expanding word vocabulary by recognizing synonyms of words. The students are interactively working on state standards without the hum drum of worksheets! They can't wait to learn using the Fires!

I am gradually installing new book titles onto the Fires. By installing books onto the Fires, students are able to highlight and define words right as we read. This increases the reading comprehension levels considerably. We also have a dictionary that will help us to define words quickly and easily. Because the Fires are light weight and portable, we are able to use these Fires anywhere in the classroom. This is a great feature in a crowded classroom.

We appreciate your generous donations to our classroom. You have helped students of all levels gain extra support and practice. Students are engaged and interested in their learning, even with reteaching of concepts. My class is a happier and more successful place because of you. We thank you for all you have done for our class. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bravo
