Math Shared with Technology Helps Students Learn

Funded Jan 23, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation of the Elmo document projector. It is a wonderful addition to our classroom!

When we were learning how to add and subtract integers, I was able to show the class negative and positive Skittles, and the display was amazing! I was also able to demonstrate difficult geometry concepts with the use of the Elmo.

My students are beginning to share how they solved word problems in Math, by bringing up their completed work, and explaining to the class the steps they used. The Elmo helps by providing an instant visual picture of the work that the students have done.

We also are using the Elmo to share what is in a graphic novel on the American Revolution. The Elmo makes sharing the illustrations in books terrific! Everyone can see the illustrations and the words too!

If find that I don't have to make so many copies, because I can share material with my students. Just the other day I shared some pages from a math book we no longer use. That section in the book was very beneficial to our studies, so being able to show the page in full color was fantastic!

We were studying three dimensional shapes, using manipulatives. The students had to draw the top view, side view and front view. The Elmo was an amazing device, as I could focus the camera on each of the views so the students could easily see how to take a three dimensional object, and draw the two dimensional version.

I know the Elmo is too expensive for me to purchase on my own, so your amazing generosity has been such a wonderful present for my classroom. Thank you for your help. Each time we use the Elmo I smile and remember the generosity of so many people that helped us get this technological tool. Thank you so very much!”

With gratitude,
