On a Roll in AP Physics
Funded Oct 19, 2009Thank you for providing my students with a rigorous (and fun!) lab experience. I used the equipment last week with the AP students concerning our unit on work, energy and power. The rollercoasters immediately captured the students' attention. They used them for three days solid, collecting data in two separate investigations. They then analyzed the data in excel and wrote up a laboratory synopsis in their lab notebooks. The sense of engagement and intrigue during the lab was extraordinary. It is times like these where being a teacher is such an inspiring occupation. The energy was contagious! It would not have been possible without your generosity.
The honors physics students will be doing similar labs in the next month. They were intently eying the rollercoasters and asked several times when they were going to get to use them. Having students eagerly anticipate lab time is a wonderful thing for any science teacher.
These rollercoasters will be used for years to come and will bring the same authentic learning experience to thousands of students. The information learned from your donation will also be used in the spring when we go to the local amusement park where the students will apply their knowledge to the real world. It has formed a wonderful foundation for this work. Thank you for your kind support and investment in my students' futures.”
