  • Help Us Learn To Love Reading!

    Funded Dec 1, 2010

Thank you for your generosity in providing these materials for our classroom! My students have thoroughly enjoyed them for several weeks now and I can honestly say it has made a positive impact on their learning! Just the other day, one of my lower level students went to our listening center and spent 40 minutes using the read-along storytelling kits! I saw him practicing several skills as he "played" - story sequencing, sight word recognition, and comprehension.

The best thing about having these materials though, is that the children actually enjoy story time more! They sit up and pay attention because they know that they might get a turn to come up and help out with the story by putting the felt pieces on the board. Even better, they now equate reading with enjoyment, and are much more likely to sit through a story even without puppets or felt board! Their listening skills have improved and their attention spans have lengthened! We now enjoy our reading time as much as our math time!”

  • Aboriginal Art From Australia

    Funded Sep 8, 2010

Without your generous donations I could not have brought this exciting unit of Aboriginal art to my students. The supplies purchased with your donations have made it possible for the students to have thick poster board, dowels in a variety of sizes, lots of colors of acrylic paint, paint trays with lids, and a wonderful array of Australian animal books..

The resulting projects from this lesson will be on display around the school and at our annual arts festival in town.

Consideng the strict budget cuts education in general is undergoing I surely could not have brought this exciting unit to the children without your help”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. I.

  • Clay-tastic Classroom!

    Funded Nov 9, 2010

I want to share my sincerest gratitude and appreciation for the clay tools that you have helped to provide. As of today, both 7th and 8th grade classes have started a project with them. It is amazing how much more we can do with clay now with access to such a variety of clay tools. It's also a great message for my students to be able to tell them that anononymous donors helped to fund our art projects because they believe that you deserve them. It always amazes me, with Donor's Choose, how selfless you all are in giving your money to fund students and classrooms you've never met. I am endlessly grateful.

Currently, the 7th graders are creating a clay sculpture using knowledge learned about Pop Art. They have each chosen an objects that symbolizes their popular culture. Looking through our in progress sculptures, you will see a giant crayon, some sort of video game, a box of popcorn, a pie, a bag of chips, and a giant burrito. They are doing an awesome job creating clay sculptures inspired by the Pop Artists of the 1960's. The 8th graders have come up with theme to create a clay box. They will use their theme (anything from Michael Jackson to candy) to create a clay box with symbols inspired by their themes.

Again, thank you so much for making this and many more projects possible! It could not happen without your sincere generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Winkler

  • Students Need CD Duplicator for Practice CDs-Keep Arts Alive

    Funded Oct 5, 2010

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my band program. The DVD duplicator that you donated has helped my students get the resources needed to improve on their instrument. We've used this to make practice Cd's to take home over the holidays to practice music that we plan to perform at our state festival, as well as DVDs of our shows to help us in improving the show by eliminating mistakes.

Our school is currently facing a budget shortfall, so without your help, my students would never have this vital resource. For a visual performing group, this is a very important tool for continued success.

Without donors like you, many music programs in the United States would go without.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. McNeil

This classroom project was brought to life by Claire Giannini and 6 other donors.
  • Animate My Classroom Library

    Funded Sep 11, 2010

My students were so excited when the package of books arrived! I had shown them a list of titles, but several of the books included examples of some of the animation skills that the books teach. This particular group of books offers something for each student and provides a jumping off point for future animators, special effects artists and directors! This was made possible by your generous gift and anyone who benefits from reading these books has you personally to thank. You have made a real difference in children's lives and I personally want to express our gratitude. Thank you so much!

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Park

  • Add Glam To Our Circle Time Music Experience!

    Funded Aug 14, 2010

Thank you to all of the donors who funded this project to help keep our classroom music organized and our students energized and ready to learn through bringing great-sounding music to their ears! We received the Bose SoundDock first, and there was a delay on the iPod Touch due to vendor restrictions. The wonderful staff at DonorsChoose helped us to find another vendor that could provide the iPod Touch to educational institutions, and we received the iPod Touch this week.

When I had set up the iPod and synced it to iTunes on our new HP notebook computer from another project that was just funded (lucky us!), we were ready to begin using our new circle time music tools to learn! Let me tell you, the kids may not know exactly why our experience was better, but they sure felt something different in the air. The rich sound of the music coming from the speakers of the SoundDock sure is pleasing to the ears. I recently purchased an album with 99 classical pieces of music that sound heavenly to the ears using the SoundDock, and I use that as a calming background during free choice time.

During circle time, we don't have to turn up the volume as loud to try to hear the words to the songs. Dr. Jean's "My Mother is a Baker" (good for language development and sequential ordering) was easy to listen to and be able to hear the lyrics. In the pictures I've uploaded, you'll see the kids dancing to Dr. Jean's "Tooty Ta" song (multiple concepts and also sequential ordering) while they get to see their teacher being just as silly - no pictures of that! An added bonus is the remote control that allows me to go forward or backward in a playlist, from one playlist to another, pause between songs, or raise or lower volume at the touch of a very responsive button.

What a way to "glam up" our classroom circle time! Thanks also to Adam Lambert, whose love for music and growing young minds and creative beings was and continues to be an inspiration for so many people who also have giving hearts. Thank you to all of you wonderful people who donated to make our classroom one that encourages a love of music while we learn!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. C.

  • Fall Project # 2

    Funded Aug 24, 2010

Thank you so much for your caring donation. We are very fortunate to have caring people such as yourselves who give to complete strangers. We have been in need of copy toner for our copy machine for a couple of weeks now. Our last cartridge was about to dry out so believe me when I say, "We are fortunate to have had your donations."

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of hurricane Katrina here on the Gulf Coast. It was 5 years ago that Katrina devastated our little town. We have had several projects funded through www.donorschoose.org and I am not sure how we would have recovered so well without them.

We will continue to get some of the things that we need through this awesome resource and I hope that you will continue to help out programs like ours that are in need.

Thank you once again and may God Bless You,”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gunsch
