  • Ms. P's Math LCD Projector

    Funded Dec 3, 2010

I would like to thank everyone SO much for the donations you all made towards my LCD projector.

Since I have received the projector, I have been able to do such great things within my classrooms. First and foremost, my lessons are now based through power point and other interactive presentation programs that really give the students a great way to see the material. "Ms. Phillips, I wish you would have had this all year" was a comment from my Calculus students, as they were able to see their challenging curriculum more clearly. In addition, I have been able to show interactive graphics for a more visible form of education for these students. Seeing the rate of change, or area under a curve, etc, are hard to see or comprehend without a good example of the motion in place.

I want to thank you so much for your support, once again. Education is necessity in this world, and yet does not always get the attention and support that it needs. This has really benefited my class in so many ways, and will continue to. I appreciate all of you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Reading is FUNdamental

    Funded Dec 5, 2010

I would like to thank each of you once again for your awesome donation to our Reading is FUNdamental project. Since we've received the new books for our classroom library, the volume of reading has increased. My students are actively engaged during DEAR - Drop Everything and Read time. This is evidenced by our Accelerated Reader score. We now rank 3rd out of 14 classrooms. Only one 8th grade class and one 6th grade class have more points than we do. Accelerated Reader is an online system in which students take comprehension tests for the books that they have read. My students are reading more and are successfully passing more comprehension tests than ever before.

I appreciate the excitement for reading that has been further developed in each of my students thanks to your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

  • Let's Read Together: Struggling Readers Need Document Camera

    Funded Jan 21, 2011

Thank you so much to everyone who helped us purchase an ELMO document camera for our classroom.

This camera has helped us So much while reading "Romeo and Juliet"! We've used it to model excellent reading, to map texts, and to share our work with the class. This tool has truly helped our classroom become more interactive.

Also, it helps my students morale to know that people outside our school care about them getting an excellent education. They've doubted this in the past, but DonorsChoose has helped us understand that lots of people want to help us. Even people we may not know!

Thank you again for your continued support,

    Ms. S and Students”

  • Get Creative With Color Pencils

    Funded Nov 27, 2010

Thank you so very much for taking an interest in my art program and in the arts education of my young artists. It made us feel so good to know that you cared about our school enough to send a donation to our project. The students were so excited to have new color pencils in a vast array of colors. They were thrilled to use the new color pencils to explore making artwork with color, shape, line and texture. They drew, blend designed and colored to their hearts content. The work they produced was stunning and they had such pride in their artistic and creative accomplishments. Thank you again for making this possible.”

  • A Short History of Nearly Everything

    Funded Nov 19, 2010

    Dear Donor's,

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the donation you made to our classroom. The class set of books A Short History of Nearly Everything have been a huge asset to me this year. I have used them in all of my classes so far and the students have really picked up on Bryson's writing style.

Now at the end of the year they are starting to pick up on the humor in some of the passages and we have had some great discussions about why the author might be mocking some of the famous scientists from the past. I have had a few student reference the book in lab reports and papers and a few kids have checked out a copy to read through on their own!

I have been so happy with using these books in my classroom they have been a great supplement to the curriculum. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS DREAM A REALITY!!!! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Richter

  • Where in the World is. . . ?

    Funded Nov 25, 2010

I want to thank you very sincerely for the gift of maps you have given my students. The children are enjoying having maps in the room and can frequently be found surveying the maps, locating places they had never known, and finding familiar sounding places. It is such a rich instructional tool to have available in the class. The maps serve to broaden the world for my students and give them a better understanding of how wide the world really is.

My special needs students usually learn better when they have a visual presentation. Although one can use the internet to pull up a map, there is nothing quite like a large, wall map to illustrate a point. It also gives the kids a chance to get out of their seats and move around, something that is always beneficial for kids with lots of energy. We are learning so much this year having the maps in the room. We have referred to the maps to find places in the news such as Libya, Japan, and Afghanistan. We have also referred to the maps to find Copenhagen, Denmark, the setting of our novel, Number the Stars. Maps serve to pique the curiosity of my young adventurers, and I hear such comments as "I wonder what it's like in Mozambique," or "We know a teacher from Punta Arenas, Chile."

Your generosity in giving to this proposal is greatly appreciated. Your use of the DonorsChoose website, demonstrates an interest in education, and an appreciation that education requires the support of all if we are to be truly successful. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sanders

  • Help! We Need Music Stands That Are Not Falling Apart!

    Funded Nov 21, 2010

Thank you so much for your donation! Without you, we would not have had enough music stands for all the students in the music program. Also, because of you, we have music stands that do not tip over while the students are using them.

I don't know what we would have done without you. Our Winter Assembly ran so much smoother because we didn't have to exchange stands between numbers. Thank you for supporting our music program and recognizing that music is an important part of every child's education.

Again thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sechowski

  • Help Students Devour Math through Technology

    Funded Nov 19, 2010

I wanted to personally thank all of you for your contribution towards funding my DonorsChoose project. The addition of a document camera into my classroom has completely changed the way in which I teach. I actually use it every day now, which is way more often than I initially envisioned.

First and foremost, the document camera has changed my classroom by changing the way in which I give notes to my students. Before I had the camera, I would give notes using a traditional overhead projector. Though this was just as efficient in the presentation perspective, I was not able to save a copy of the notes for students who are slow note takers or for students that were not present on a given day. By writing the notes on paper and then projecting them using the document camera, I can save a copy of everything that I present.

Secondly, the inclusion of a document camera in my classroom has improved motivation within my classroom as well. When students complete a given assignment correctly, they have the opportunity to share their work under the document camera and present it to the rest of the class. My students are jumping out of their seats with their hands raised whenever I ask for a volunteer to show their work.

And lastly, the document camera has allowed me to demonstrate common hands on math skills to the entire classroom so that everyone can understand how to use them. For example, recently during a geometry lesson, we were discovering the meaning of Pi by measuring the diameter and circumference of common circular objects. With the document camera, I was able to physically show the entire class how to measure the diameter and circumference of an object by simply just doing it under the document camera. All of the students caught on quickly and were able to understand the concept more clearly because they were not limited by not being able to see my demonstration.

Once again, I wanted to thank you all for your generous donations. Myself and my students are appreciative of your support.”

  • Sharp pencils for sharp mathematical minds

    Funded Nov 18, 2010

I wanted to send a sincere thank you for your generous donation towards our two electric pencil sharpeners and a set of computer speakers. Your contribution has indeed led to "sharp mathematical minds."

After we received our materials, my students were in awe at how well the pencil sharpeners worked. In fact, after sharpening one of her pencils, my student said, "Wow, I never knew a pencil could look this nice!" Before every class period, many of my students utilize the pencil sharpener so they are readily prepared for the day's lesson.

Additionally, our new set of computer speakers allow for my entire class to sing along to various Math tunes as well as listen to videos pertaining to our lesson. Since the whole class can hear the song or video, they are more readily engaged in the lesson's objectives. These materials will help my classes for years to come and we will always have you to thank for them! ”

  • History Comes Alive with Tech Savvy Resources!!

    Funded Dec 1, 2010

I just wanted to take the time to personally thank each of you for your generosity. It is because of your kindness that so many of my students are receiving a more personalized and richer education. Thank you so, so much!

After I received the LCD last month I began using it immediately. I have been able to provide my students access to interactive websites, digital pictures, educational videos, films, and a plethora of other materials that have enriched their learning experience. I am able to capture their attention with these forms of media while also engaging them in deeper ways of thinking. And the great part about it is that they don't even know it!

I have seen students with special needs and learning deficiencies response positively to this new form of technology in the classroom. You can be assured that your donations are making a differences in the lives of my students and their education. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hansen
