It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Scientific Americans

    Funded Feb 15, 2010

I would like to take this time to share my gratitude with you for your generous donation to my classroom. The Scientific Americans are a great help in meeting the standards set out for third grade science. The science kits available for my students' use at my school are quite old with several items missing. These books will be of great use to me and my students. The reading, projects and experiments that we will be able to accomplish will be the step forward we need to take.

My students are always excited when I say that it's time to do a science project. Because of the economic problems so many of us are dealing with, these exciting moments in science would not be able to happen without your kind help in getting the resources to us.

Without people like you the joy of learning with the new materials you have donated would be only a dream.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Vorberg

  • Balance the Science: Balance Scales for 7th- 8th Science

    Funded Feb 23, 2010

How to have a massive impact on the learning of science? Start with the basics. What could be more basic than the measurement of mass. You have helped provide my students with the means of measuring mass and, hence, have made a massive impact on my students learning.

Since there arrival we have used the triple beam balances almost daily. They proved essential to both 7th and 8th grades completing their district mandated science inquiries, "Buoyancy and Density" and "Water Holding Capacity of Different Soils". My students have truly benefited from the tactile "Click, Click, Slide" of seeing an object balance into a measurement. They seen the importance of math concepts "less than, greater than", place values and decimal places in arriving at a result.

As you know budgets for education are constrained. The balance scales were items for which we simply did not have the funds. Because of your generosity, we were able to acquire the equipment and pursue science the way it should be- hands on and sometimes dirty.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Tyler

  • Going Green

    Funded Feb 20, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom. The books were a great addition to our Earth Day celebration. Students continue to read them again and again. They are sharing their new found concepts about reduce, reuse, recycle with their friends and families.

Our school continues to facing budget shortfall, so without your help, would not have these valuable resources. This helps the classroom keep up to date with the current issue of being informed and responsible citizens of the environment.

Again, without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Fabulous Fourth Grade Scientists

    Funded Feb 14, 2010

Thank you for your generosity in funding my Fabulous Fourth Grade Scientists project. The donation that you made has certainly made a difference to my students. Our materials arrived promptly, and we have been using them to reinforce the concepts that we are learning in Science.

We are just finishing the Bones and Skeletons unit, and my students have used the multilevel books Amazing Plants and Animals not only to increase their information about different environments and the adaptations that plants and animals have made, but also to practice getting information from reading captions, looking at the photographs, charts and diagrams. I have used these books for small groups and partner reading. My students can read books at their level, and then participate in class discussions since the content is the same. The activity tubs and games have been wonderful! The experiment cards and hands on activities have given my students an opportunity to review and learn new information.

As you can see your donations have made a difference.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Williams

  • Art Gives Hope

    Funded Feb 17, 2010

Your generous gift made it possible for my students to work through the healing process. Earlier this year we had a fire at our school and have since moved to a building across town. Student have to take a 20 -30 minute bus ride instead of walking to school with their parents.

Bringing art to my students has helped them find joyful ways to express their feelings. As you can see by the smiles on their faces the students appreciate your generosity.

Thank you so much for sending a message of hope to my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dickinson

  • Oregon Literature

    Funded Feb 3, 2010

It was like Christmas when I opened my box of books. I was so eager to begin to read the literature on The Oregon Trail. The new updated books for my classroom have really helped my students to become engaged in the social studies unit on Oregon.

The enthusiasm the students show as they use the books is so much fun. They are truly shocked that there did not use to be electricity. Some of my students have said they can't believe the kids on The Trail did not have video games. The vibrant and colorful pictures really help to bring history to life for the kids, especially those who are English Language Learners.

Once again, thank you so much for using some of your resources to help a school in Oregon. I look forward to teaching The Oregon Trail unit again and again using the beautiful books I have received from your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tammen-Jensen

  • Desperately Needed Classroom Materials for Band Classes

    Funded Apr 14, 2010

I'm overwhelmed! I'm so grateful that you have chosen to give to my project! Music education is becoming harder and harder to fund. We all value it, but unfortunately there isn't enough money to go around, so it's the first to get cut. Only with donations like yours are we able to continue. This is especially true for our low-income students, who, without your help, might not be able to participate in band at all.

The materials purchased in this project are materials that go directly to the students. These include reeds, valve and slide oil, and cork grease. These materials are used on a daily basis by every student. They can also be expensive--especially the reeds. With this generous gift, we are able to offer these materials FREE to the students.

I thank you SO much! ”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Ready, Set, Math!

    Funded Feb 18, 2010

We received our materials and are so excited! It felt like Christmas in our room! The students wanted to use the materials all day...math is now a hit! The magnets and geometric shapes were especially popular and the rubbing number plates were really effective in getting some kids focused on number recognition. Thank you so much for your donations. In a classroom, it can easily feel as if the world has forgotten about you and that you are alone in the world advocating for kids. Its nice to know that when the door is opened, lovely people like yourselves join us in making education more effective and more exciting for students.

    You rock!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wager

  • Inspiring the Scientific Mind

    Funded Feb 8, 2010

Wow! I can't fully express the gratitude, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my students. Yeah! It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching out to our young scientists and inventors of the future.

The tools that you have funded will enable students to explore various areas of science. In addition, I will be able to fully demonstrate experiments, and allow my students to explore science through inquiry. We're off to one of our three field study trips this month! Students will be studying a local watershed's ecosystem and water quality. They will also participate in a community service activity at each visit. I can't believe the supplies will arrive in time for our first adventure!

Thank you so much. I can't wait to share this good news with my students tomorrow morning! ”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
