  • Knitting for Life-Long Learning - More Students Need You!

    Funded May 14, 2011

As the holidays rapidly approach I am taking time to count my blessings. One of the best and most rewarding blessings I am celebrating is the ability to provide my students with our knitting club. Students are making scarves, booties (for their babies, some yet to be born), heart shaped pillows, teddy bears, etc. It is difficult to express the enthusiasm, joy, and creativity they demonstrate as they select projects, and then choose the yarn, needles, etc. with which to complete their creations. Many have progressed beyond the basics to the degree that I have been inspired to take my skills up several notches by trying new styles, stitches, and patterns.

Other schools have heard about our knitting club, and admit that they are a bit envious that they do not have one, which is really cool because sometimes we must admit that no matter how hard we work to provide our students with opportunities, there are some programs we can not offer due to limited funds and staffing.

This opportunity would not be available to our students with out you and your kindness. As you spend time with family and friends, please remember the difference you have made in the lives of our students by providing them with the ability to learn, grow, and graduate from high school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wright

  • Learning with "ELMO" (not the red furry monster)

    Funded Jul 20, 2011

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in funding this project for our class. We have high expectations for our students and want them to have the same access to technology and cutting edge instruction as students in other districts. Because of your choice to fund our project, our students now have the same opportunities as students in surrounding districts.

Having a document reader in our classroom has allowed us to change our way of instruction in many ways. Our students are fully engaged in our small book read alouds. During writing, we are able to give students an opportunity to share their work. They get so excited when we highlight and model good writing by using their own work. The ELMO helps us to clearly show what we are expecting as well as each and every student's capable rites. We use the "ELMO" Document Camera to keep students engaged and on task when instructing and giving directions on how to complete tasks by displaying what we want the students to do. We were able to pop popcorn for a writing and science lesson and all students were able to participate and stay actively engaged each step of the way through use of the "ELMO" Document Camera. We are excited to continue to develop new lessons and ways if instructing with this educational tool.

Please continue to support our children as you are making a difference and helping to change and improve the way our children learn.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soto

  • Brrrr...It's Cold Out There!

    Funded Apr 21, 2011

It has been so much fun watching my students use the materials you donated to our classroom! Each day they are anxious for recess time. The boys and girls love looking through the cupboard for their favorite game or activity. They are sharing, interacting, laughing, creating, solving, and enjoying.

I cannot thank you enough for caring about my students and opening your hearts and ultimately your wallets to them. Your donations have motivated the boys and girls to earn their recess time and to work hard all day long. It is nice for the children to have time at the end of the day to have fun, play, and work together. They are building stronger social and problem solving skills while playing games, building, and creating.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for being so kind and generous!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Curran

  • Let Us Paint a Pretty Picture for You

    Funded Apr 28, 2011

Thank you for your generous contributions to "Let Us Paint a Pretty Picture For You". Your donations have made this happen! We. are so looking forward to receiving the materials. What a great way to end a school year with new supplies. I can't wait until the students are able to paint and use brushes. This will be a first time experience for many of them. It will be very interesting to see whether they all like to paint or not.

Since this is a classroom that uses a multi sensory approach, the students will be using the materials in all academic areas. They will be able to express their feelings and ideas on paper. Also, we will be able to make special gifts for special occasions.

We can not thank you enough for your donations. You have made our class very happy. Thank you. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bohl

  • Scarves For The Homeless

    Funded Apr 4, 2011

Thank you so much. My class is excited to begin knitting and crocheting. We will begin to have small groups learn this skill as soon as we have received our materials. The lifelong skills are so exciting. My gratitude is endless. My students will teach each other and help each other. They are already coming together as a class to learn this skill. As we develop new patterns we will be adding math skills to our learning as well. This is a very exciting chance and opportunity you have given us. Thank you, Thank you.

The students will work cooperatively to create scarves and maybe even hats someday. The finished products will be given to homeless children in our city. This is a great lesson in caring for others even when we don't see them. Thank you for caring for my students whom you have not seen.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Shelley
