It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. • Paper, Please?

    Funded Dec 22, 2009

There aren't words to describe how grateful we are to you! Thank you SO much for your donations. It is late April, and we still have 3 boxes of paper left! Our 2nd grade team has been able to copy worksheets, study packets, and tests with your donation.

Additionally, my students have been able to complete some awesome activities and crafts with the donated paper. We have decorated our room and hallway with our wonderful work.

Without your donations, we would have had a lot of trouble completing the necessary work for 2nd grade. I'm happy to say that this paper will carry us through the rest of the school year, and hopefully even in to next year.

Once again, thank you sincerely for your donations. You've made a difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Griffith

  • An Elemental Proposal

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

I want to extend a very sincere thank you to all the donors who made this project possible. My students have been using their binders everyday to organize their classwork and the notes taken from projected images on our new projector screen. Many have expressed pride in how new and clean the periodic table looks. "Is that new?" they asked, followed by a series of excited affirmations.

Each portion of this project supports a different aspect of our quest to raise achievement levels and increase comprehension in chemistry. Without you, my students would be less organized, less efficient, and have a harder time finding important information in the periodic table of the elements. We plan on continuing to use these items for the rest of the year and beyond.

Please continue to support classrooms like mine because you really do make an impact on each individual student. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wilcox

  • Project Podcast

    Funded Dec 4, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation to "Project Podcast!" The digital voice recorder is such a user-friendly tool for my students. As the library media specialist and as one of the 6th grade Technology Education teachers, we are constantly looking for ways to engage our students with various learning styles while incorporating technology. There are so many projects that we can do with this amazing little device.

This semester, my Technology class will begin to investigate web 2.0 applications--one of which is podcasting. As a warm up for podcasting, the students practiced recording themselves as they read a few pages out of some of the new library books that I received. These audio book previews will be uploaded to our schools online library catalog and will be available to about 750 students at our school! My 6th graders are so excited that they were the first to use the voice recorders and that they are to first students to record the book previews. This one exercise alone has built their confidence and they feel like leaders at their school. The students can't wait to try podcasting "for real."

Literacy skills have been loosing ground at my school especially among African American students. This recording exercise was great reading practice and it got them excited about reading the book they choose to preview. Almost all of the students checked out the book! I am hopeful that the audio previews will increase library book circulation as well. There is nothing better than positive peer pressure!

Thank you again for your donation and for supporting innovation in education! ”

    With gratitude,

  • Inner Visions

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donations that allowed us to have three dissecting microscopes in our classroom! We have already used them for a fun project to look at insect eyes and to compare the crystal structure of different rocks.

Later this year we will be observing embryo development of frogs and zebra fish. These microscopes will allow the students to see the many stages of development in the eggs. We will also be dissecting flowers under the scopes so students can see the developing seeds and other parts of the plant's reproductive system close up.

These microscopes will not only enhance student's understanding of Biology concepts this year, but for many years to come.”

  • Cramped Old Carpet Needs Updating!!!

    Funded Dec 23, 2009

I really appreciate the funding you have put forth for my class to be able to obtain a new classroom carpet. Having a new rug is a joy to not only me but the students. It creates a better learning environment and allows the class to be more comfortable on a new, comfortable and clean rug.

Before receiving the new carpet you thankfully helped the class receive, I would tape squares onto the old carpet for the students to be able to sit in. This was distracting because students would often pick at the tape and it left the carpet dingy looking. Seeing the children's faces when the new rug was put down was great. They were so excited to not have to sit in a taped square anymore but to have their very own square already on the new rug.

With the new carpet, the class can now comfortably sit on the carpet to hear stories, read, and complete work. The students and I both thank you very much in making our classroom a better and more comfortable place to learn. ”

  • Making Math Memorable (Manipulatives and Activities)

    Funded Dec 11, 2009

Thank you so much for you generous donation to my classroom. The math supplies you donated help my students strengthen their math skills on a daily basis. With the daily math station and the geometry manipulatives, my students are able to reinforce taught skills. My students are working hard and having fun at the same time. The support that these resources provide make it effortless for the students to drill and prepare for the math MSA.

As you know, school budgets are tight this year, so without your assistance, my students would never have had the opportunity to use these essential resources. All of my students, from the remedial to the advanced can and are benefiting from these hands-on math activities.

Once again, thank you for your thoughtfulness and kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tolliver

  • Getting Comfy with our Books

    Funded Dec 12, 2009

Words cannot express how grateful we are for your donation! I remember getting the email from Donors Choose that the project had been funded. I was in the middle of the mall (during the Christmas season) and stopped right where I was. I yelled, "Yay!" and then realized I was holding up mall traffic. Please accept our big THANK YOU!!!

The students' eyes lit up when they walked into the classroom the day after the beanbags arrived. They attempted to bum-rush the reading carpet in an effort to enjoy the chairs. I use the beanbags as an incentive during silent reading time. I have watched even the most difficult behaviors turn around just to get a chance on the beanbag chair. I hope you will enjoy the pictures of the students on the beanbag chairs. They absolutely love them!!! It's because of people like you that our children can compete with the schools who have the best resources available to their children. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mangrum

  • Building Better Thinkers

    Funded Dec 12, 2009

I cannot thank you enough for your wonderful donations to our classroom! Your generosity is amazing and teaches my students a lesson. Through this gift, they see that people believe in them and their potential to succeed.

When the box came to our class, the students' eyes lit up! I had kept them up-to-date with my project proposals and with each donation as it came in, so they knew what the box meant. As I pulled out each box of blocks, they could not believe it! Our morning instruction got a little off track, because of course we could not wait to dig in. I must admit, I was very impressed with the creativity of my students. I have not had the opportunity to see them work with building blocks this year, except for a few foam blocks I was able to scrounge up, so I didn't know how they would do with the various building materials they now have. They astounded me! I had castles at the Lego table, 3-headed rainbow creatures at the Creature Builders table, and amazing rocket ships at the Crystal Builders table. Children I had never seen choose the block area before were making amazing creations and loving every minute of it. What an amazing experience for them! The creativity continues each morning as they are allowed to choose blocks as their arrival activity and each afternoon during exploration time. The block center is now always the first to fill up!

I never could have provided these experiences to my students without your donations. You have truly made a difference in my classroom and in the students' learning experiences. These materials have made me a better teacher and have made my classroom a very child-friendly learning environment. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Matthews

  • Overhead Projector Needed For a Science Classroom

    Funded Dec 13, 2009

Thank you very much for your generous donation to my classroom. The overhead projector you helped fund was put to use the day it arrived. The students were excited to find it sitting at the front of the classroom. It has aided in organizing my classroom and helps keep my 6th and 7th grade science students focused on the lesson.

Without donors like you, many classrooms around our country would continue to go without basic classroom necessities. My students and I are very grateful for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brostrom
