In honor of Pride, the LGBTQIA+ staff at DonorsChoose are supporting projects that focus on queer history, queer and trans representation, queer student community, the intersection of race and queerness and projects that actively welcome queer youth.
Year-round, we invite you to join us in supporting a project that speaks to you!

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Thanks to you, my students were able to walk into my classroom and see books being featured in my classroom library that were about, and by people just like them!
Students in our Gender and Sexuality Alliance Club were so proud to wear their rainbow pins and stickers and to be able to hand out some and share at our local Pride events.
I was able to become a better ally and educator for ALL of my students as you provided me resources to help me be a more inclusive and supportive teacher.
Thank you so much for making all of this possible.”

I am so happy to show my students that I care enough about them to decorate our room in a style that fits them. By hanging the Radical Tea Towels around the room as decoration, students have something that grabs their attention as soon as they walk into the room. Students immediately know that I "see" them.
The Radical Tea Towels have already begun inspiring conversations between students, and between students and myself. They ask questions, make comments, draw connections between the text and the towels. They know that I'm not just another teacher who may not understand or recognize their history, their culture, their possible struggles. They know that I care. This helps foster stronger relationships, and we all know that students who do not have a relationship with their teacher, usually do not learn as much as those that do.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making this possible. You are not only helping the students , but you have already helped me as well.”

Thank you again for making my dream of including more inclusive books in my classroom a reality!
When students are able to see themselves in the books they read, they feel more seen, heard, and understood. Likewise, when students are given the opportunity to read about characters and families that are different than them, it provides them with the empathy and compassion that helps them become more kind human beings.
I've already been able to facilitate some inclusive conversations because of these books. I also have some queer students in my classroom who have found themselves and their families in these books -- and because of this I've seen them flourish even more within our classroom.
Thank you so much for your generosity! Students are enjoying the access that this resource provides them to the world beyond their community.
When we began using the magazine, our first issue cover was about the excessive heat that was being experienced around the world. It was a very timely article. Students knew what they were experiencing personally but were not aware of the greater impact in other parts of the world. The article brought to light many things my students hadn't considered such as how it gets much hotter in other countries, how work is impacted which then impacts the ability to make a living for your family, and so much more. It was a wonderful opportunity to have a much deeper conversation about the world around us.
Since then, we have had many more great discussions, made connections with the events highlighted in articles, and have been able to sharpen skills across many of our state standards. Most recently, we have been working on argumentative writing. The debates that are presented in the magazines are very relatable for the students. As they explore both sides of an argument, they begin to realize the importance of having solid evidence to support their stance. They also realize the importance of hearing the other side of an argument.
Thank you again for providing access to the world around us through this wonderful resource. It aligns with our state standards and injects a level of interest that is always welcome in the classroom.”

Thank you so much for your generous donation! Our books were tucked away to be brought out for Pride Month and Asian American Pacific Islander Month, but we couldn't wait! We got a stack out early for our Social Studies unit on culture and identity. Then got more out to answer questions about National Coming Out Day! I love that my young students have access to high quality books that help them learn about sophisticated topics. This is due to your thoughtful donation to our classroom library. We appreciate you!”

Thank you so much for supporting this project to bring Pride Spirit items to our school and students! So many students will have the opportunity to celebrate their pride at events and participate in rainbow spirit days at our school, and staff members will be able to publicly identify themselves as allies to our students. I can't thank you enough for choosing my project to support and making sure our students have the opportunity to both distribute and wear these spirit items.
As a counselor, it's incredibly important for me to make sure all of my students feel supported, welcome and visible in our school, and this project helps us make that goal a reality. Students learn best when they feel supported by educators and their community understand them. This project goes a long way towards helping me and other staff members connect with our LGBTQ+ students to make them feel valued within our school community.”

My students and I cannot thank you enough for these much-needed classroom library books. You should have seen the look on my new students' faces when they saw all the new titles. They were so excited and could not wait to devour these new texts!
Students have been voraciously reading every single day in class for the first 15 minutes. Many students are already checking out books from our classroom library and reading at home!
It is so exciting as well as fulfilling to be able to provide such rich and popular texts for my students. Thank you so much for your generosity!”
On behalf of my classroom and other teachers that I have shared these books with, I wanted to say thank you so much for your contribution in bringing this project to life.
It is my hope that through adding these books to our classroom library kids are seen, valued, celebrated and accepted. We all are different and that is beautiful. With these various books, students gain empathy, learn about various disabilities, cultivate conversations, collaborate and work together in a more productive, healthy environment where all persons are included. As they learn and grow and from these various books they can take that out into the world and be more inclusive and accepting humans towards others.”

In this beautiful and heartbreaking life our students need books to read, grow, and continue their journey! You answered the call to push our literacy farther by providing these brand new books for our students. They are from the lists of the best books for young adults and students have been requesting new material to keep growing and push their reading and critical thinking to new levels.
Thank you for believing in the power of literacy to make a difference in the lives of our youth and in our community! Thank you for bringing much needed books to the South Bronx which struggles with being under-resourced. We are already reading these beautiful books, growing our vocabularies, building our knowledge of different ways of life, and incorporating stories into our own paths.
Thank you for this tremendous gift! We appreciate it and will think of you while we read these books and grow!”
Thank you for supporting our annual library Pride lunch party. Students and staff members enjoyed themselves immensely.
There was music, snacks (Skittles, rainbow brownies, Starburst, chips, and Capri Sun drinks), many swag giveaway items, and lots of fun.
Students and staff who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community felt reaffirmed and supported by their peers; others who are allies enjoyed the chance to celebrate their friends.
On behalf of my students, my deepest thanks because this event would not have been possible without your support and assistance.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gavin
