Hello friends, family and supporters! Hello friends, family and supporters! It's that time of year again, when I inexplicably choose, on my own free will, to grow what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache to raise money for local kids in need. Additionally, this is the 2nd year for Mustaches for Kids Baltimore, and we're looking to improve on our impressive fundraising take from last year to help even more kids! In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support! And please wish me and my Mustache luck. • Science Materials Needed

    Funded Jan 2, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation. It was very thoughtful of you to think of someone

    else, especially in this economy.

My students absolutely love having a fish tank in our classroom. We obtained three fish for the tank. Two goldfish, and a crayfish. The children have already learned a lot about the life of fish. Our crayfish molted! Unfortunately, the goldfish ate it while it was in a vulnerable state.

The children enjoy watching the fish eat every morning! They are fascinated to have living animals in the classroom. This gift will last for years to come. Thank you again. ”

  • Student Publishers!

    Funded Dec 15, 2009

We had enough ink cartridges to last us through the school year. My students love to use the computers and enjoyed writing several books. In the pictures I have uploaded, you will see students working on their rough drafts and then reading their final books to the class.

Your donation allowed me to give students varied opportunities in the classroom to learn, explore, and to practice their reading and writing. You helped to make this school year an enjoyable and successful one. I can't thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Forrester

  • Who's Your Favorite Author?

    Funded Dec 12, 2009

Thank you so much for the extremely generous donation you made to my class this year. The books you purchased by several celebrated children's authors have made quite an impact on my students reading abilities and reading enjoyment. I have bins full of the books you purchased and everyday my students ask if they can choose one of these special books to read during our independent reading time. They love all of the authors for different reasons and having the books available to them has opened their minds and hearts to literature. A telling moment came the other day when a special education student who could not read a word upon entering my class chose "The Very Hungry Catepillar" by Eric Carle to read in its entirety to me. Their excitement and love for these books has improved their academic proficiency this year and given them a solid foundation in literature. Thank you for supporting my students.”

  • We Can't Cope Without Microscopes

    Funded Jan 10, 2010

Allow me to thank you for the gift you gave to my students. They were so enthusiastic to begin looking at the world on a microscopic level. We have already begun to master new objectives through the use of these new microscopes. My students are now able to see cells, bacteria, and the like with their own eyes rather than through textbooks.

Lke many schools our school is facing many budget restraints. Without your amazing contributions my students would spend another year without microscopes.

Thank you once again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Read and Return

    Funded Dec 11, 2009

I have now been giving books to the parents at my school for the last several months. The parents have expressed to me how grateful they are to have this resource. I give the parent a book that they read with their children When they have fully enjoyed the book, they return the book to me to be used by another family.

What makes this so nice for the parents is the ease in accessing the books. I am on a first name basis with many of the parents at the school, and they simply step into my office take a book and leave. With many of them having very busy schedules and/or young children, this saves them the time from going elsewhere for a book. It helps that my office is conveniently located off of the main lobby.

This year, I focused on reading books for students. Next year, I would like to focus on books that will help parents to help their children succeed in school.

Again thank you so much for the wonderful gift you have given to the parents of my school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Swann

  • Help Us "Sharpen" Our Skills

    Funded Mar 8, 2010

Thank you all so much for funding "Sharpening Our Skills" project. Once again Donors Choose has made the difference. My classroom needed a pencil sharpener so badly, and as you can imagine, that is used every single day.

The other items I had selected were on the motivational side of things. I had asked for holiday and birthday pencils, cool erasers, little seasonal and fun notepads, scented stickers, and I use them as prizes for positive behavior and good grades!!! Encouragement is so important, and the students love being rewarded. Having these little extras makes motivating them so much easier, so thank you SO much!

I really appreciate your donations, and I am always surprised and overwhelmed with gratitude when one of my projects gets funded. It is so amazing when strangers give, and my students are genuinely grateful and always so surprised that someone that doesn't know them has given them something. It's totally awesome! THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • One, Two, Buckle My Shoe!

    Funded Dec 31, 2009

Thank you so much for your support in helping "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" become a reality.  The boys and girls are enjoying selecting books and activities that explore many different mathematical concepts.  I am currently using these awesome materials with all grades from PreKindergarten to Fifth grade.

The younger students love the measuring tools!  This is always a popular center.  They measure everything from themselves to the desks and walls in the library.  They also enjoy the dominoes and Quick Clip boards.  These games are fun with partners!

The older students enjoy the experiments from the weight and capacity kits.  Many students have told me they are copying these activities at home for their parents. Their favorite game is the Light and Strike game.  It allows the children to practice their computational skills in a fun way.  (It is also a good way for them to get to hit something and not get into trouble!)

Your assistance has been invaluable in helping me create some exciting and creative math centers.  I know the children will be able to use these materials for many years to come.  Thank you again for all your help”

  • Encourage Inner City Students to Read

    Funded Dec 11, 2009

Thank you for helping our classroom reach our goal! The bean bag chairs are wonderful and the students are more encouraged to read. When they finish their work early, they enjoy curling up with a great book in the bean bag loungers. They also love the colors of the chairs. My students are reading and learning more just by the presence of your gifts. Additionally, if a student is not feeling well, he or she has a comfortable place to lay for a few minutes. Your generosity helped to make this all possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Snowden

  • "A More Perfect Union"

    Funded Dec 15, 2009

What caring individuals you are! You brought this project to life for the 3rd graders in my class. They really got excited about the different lessons taught. During our lesson on landforms, we had several visitors from the National Center for Urban School Transformation in our class. They watched us make geographical models of our nation. Our visitors were just as excited about having the children engaged in learning as I was. I told them about Donors Choose and how thoughtful and kind you were to send the children all the needed supplies to complete our unit. I am so enthused to have all of you caring adults as part of the student's learning.

Also, the large posters that we got were awesome. They contained vital information on the back which really got the students "awing" and "owing". We also have the "Daily Geography Activities" – the students put them on the overhead when they work in their groups. With all the resources that you have provided, several classes are benefiting from the items. Honestly, you have really reached lot students with your kindness. ”

  • We Need Art Supplies! Please!

    Funded Dec 7, 2009

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. My students cherish the art supplies that you have allowed for them to play and learn with. They adore the playdough and have explored with it in so many ways. They have made letters, snakes, spaghetti, snowmen, cities, forests, etc with the play dough. We use the pipe cleaners to make letters and do various art projects. The foam letters are one of the most used resources in my classroom. They are just constantly naming letters, sounds, and creating words with them.

My students have very little and they feel very special in my class. We have talked various times about the donations and they are so grateful. They are elated that people believe in them as students and their academic possibilities! They tell me each day, "Ms. Savage I am on the way to college. I just need to keep learning to read and write!".

Your gracious gifts have impacted the lives of my students and will continue to each day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stern
