It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Watch It On The Big Screen

    Funded Nov 28, 2009

This is a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The LCD projector that you donated has allowed me teach my students in a new way. We use the LCD projector everyday and my students become very excited every time we use it. We have used the LCD projector to watch educational movies about weather, careers, and long vowels. Also, we use the LCD projector to show PowerPoint's on new topics, as a way to activate their prior knowledge. We use the projector to show pictures of people we are learning about and authors we are reading. We can even use the projector to play learning games! The LCD projector has enhanced my teaching and my students learning in so many ways.

Our school district is currently facing a huge budget shortfall, so without your help, my students would never have had this resource. Using the LCD projector has made my students excited to learn and this will help them succeed academically.

Thank you for your donation and for giving my students the chance to learn through technology. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nuss

  • Keeping It Together

    Funded Nov 25, 2009

Thank you very much for giving us our beautiful binders. They have truly been a gift to our class in terms of both learning and organization. They also are a beautiful gift to give each new student as they walk into the class to let them know that not only are they welcomed, but we also have high expectations of ourselves in this class.

As an introduction, another student explains what each section will be used for, and the new students are given a chance to decorate each section. Once they feel sufficiently comfortable with each section, then the real work begins. We have dedicated one section to Greek and Latin roots, two sections to language learning, one section to science, and one section to social studies. We do mathematics from a self-supported program so no section is needed for that.

It has been amazing to watch my students grow and take ownership not only of their notebooks, but also of their learning. We have organized the notebooks so that they take their classroom notes on the right page, and they then use the left side to synthesize what has been taught to them. Sometimes they translate, other times they draw, and at times they are able to take what they learned and actually use it in a sentence, diagram, etc. At the end of the year, they will be able to flip back through their notebook and reflect on all they have learned this year.

Once again I thank you for giving my students the opportunity to grow in their education in such magnificent ways using their 5 section notebooks!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. V.

  • Math - It's All Fun and Games!

    Funded Dec 1, 2009

I would like to personally thank each of your for your generosity. It is because of wonderful, loving people like you that children are afforded the basics of a good, solid education.

The games have made a tremendous impact on our classroom. Having math as the last subject of the day had been a "hard sell" to keep the students' interest and enthusiasm. Now, with the games and activities, the students are eager to finish the lesson and their required tasks so that they can quickly get back to the learning station tables to play. They share, play fair, abide by the rules, and learn all at the same time! It is truly an amazing sight.

I even have a group of young ladies who now ask to stay after school to play the games more. The same young ladies that would drift off, act out, or make careless errors our of disinterest are thriving and enthusiastic about math. They are even helping other students so that the lesson goes a little faster and they can play their game before time is up.

It is amazing to see just how much a few board games can change a child's life....and a teacher's life! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Overstreet

  • Welcome to the World Outside the Classroom!

    Funded Nov 21, 2009

Thank you for your generous donations! I feel your support as I try to create the best learning environment possible for my students.

My students were blown away by the LCD Projector. We had to spend some time discussing how the computer screen was projected on the large screen but still controlled by the computer. Several students said it was like a movie when we learned about Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa this week. The LCD projector captured their attention and made it easy for them to engage in the material. It is so important to expose students to technology at this young age.

I am creating more learning opportunities made possible by your donations for when we return from winter break.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Joyce
