It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Softball--The Past's Pastime

    Funded Dec 1, 2009

Thank you again for your generosity. The baseball gloves made such a difference in the skills we learned and resulted in quite an impact on many students. Almost all 4th-6th grade students in our district's five schools used the gloves in our softball unit. That's 823 students!

Students have reported enjoying a simple game of catch at home with their siblings, dads, and friends. Some reported teaching family members. A few 6th grade teachers requested a team set of gloves so their students can continue building their skills during recesses and their own physical education time.

    Highlights included:

The local girls softball league provided a FREE softball clinic for interested girls. I've been tickled at the news that some of our girls signed up for a softball team! We're gearing up for intradistrict co-ed play to launch after spring break. Each school will sponsor an after-school team. At the end of 4 weeks of practice, families will be invited to attend a Super Softball Saturday round robin tournament where all school teams can play together. 6th graders are looking forward to a challenging game against their staff at year's end. From a teacher's point of view--this was the best softball unit ever! Students learned a GLOVE KATA which is a series of 10 movements that teach the use of a glove--from the concepts of opposition, follow-through, and relaying the ball, to TRUSTING your glove! The big excited eyes, the wide-open mouths, and the sheer joy of making a catch from students who never experienced it before--all memories you helped make. ”

  • Having To Wait To Read

    Funded Dec 16, 2009

What a true surprise! We are so excited to receive this gift from you. We thrilled to have new headphones and tape players to listen to our stories. I am delighted to see my students get so energized when we told them we would now have the opportunity to read a classic story and listen to it as well.

When I shared with my students that we were going to be getting boxes with new headphones, tape players, and a new tape rewinder in it they were excited. They didn't stop asking when the boxes would be arriving. They were truly elated. I wish you could have seen their faces when they were looking at the new headphones and tape players that came out of the box.

It has been really hard having a class of wonderful students who don't have the money to bring supplies to class and when our budgets are cut to zero, it is harder and harder to supply these great students with the necessary materials as well as enrichment materials. All of my 26 students vary in ranges and disabilities from Mentally Retarded to Gifted, can share in this gift that you have so generously provided for us. You have made it possible for me to, in a resource class, enrich my 'new readers' with classic stories which allows them to understand the story a little deeper by hearing it.

Thank you again. This letter could never do enough for the gifts you have given.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Claussen

  • Read, Read, Read!

    Funded Dec 9, 2009

Thank you for generous donation. It has been a very exciting journey as my students have begun their first novel study this month. It is a refreshing change to see them excited to read a chapter and actually pleading to read ahead of the class. As a result of your gifts we have had in depth conversations about forgiveness, first impressions and the meaning of friendship.

Our school has no literary closet so these books will not only benefit my current class, but many classes still to come. This is the first year that our students are going to go to science camp and this novel is a perfect tie in to the trip we will be taking at the end of March.

Thank you again for your kindness and your generosity. That in itself has been an invaluable lesson to my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dickinson

  • Create Video Public Service Announcement

    Funded Dec 10, 2009

We are happily and creatively using the four Flip video cameras your donations provided us. All classes have videos underway. Each group must choose between making a Public Service Announcement or an Instructional video. We have titles such as "How to Stop the Violence in Our School" and "How to Make Huervos Rancheros."

Beginning next week, we will begin storyboarding for our Documentary Video. These English Language Learners have many compelling stories to tell, and I expect inspired productions.

Thank you again for your donations to make this technology possible for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tigert

  • Big Rubber Bands for PE

    Funded Jan 28, 2010

Thank you to all who sponsored our school. We really appreciate the donations. You have made a difference not only in our classrooms but in our community. We are now going to have over two hundred students each year, be able to write their own work out program, learn how to tone their own bodies, and influence our community on the benefits of a good work out routine. You have given me the opportunity to stress physical fitness in a way that were not possible before now. Our students will be able to benefit in the class room as well. Now on rainy days they will be able to release built up energy, giving them the opportunity to maintain concentration in their core classes. It is prooven that those who exercise learn more and do better in school for many different reasons. These fitness bands will allow students to gain the knowledge of a successful workout. Which in turn will help them be healthier, relieve stress, become better athletes, release endorphins allowing them to be happier people and provide an opportunity to be accomplished students.

Each day I come to work I see students that want to learn more, be better and make a difference. You have allowed that to come true and made it possible for them to believe that the rest of the world does care about them. You have allowed them to see outside their box and for some it is a very small box that doesn't know that there is anything outside of Stockton. You have done more for this school and community then you realize and for that I truly thank you.

    Thanks again,

    Mr. W”
