Welcome to my Giving Page! Please support my efforts in Science Bloggers for Students challenge, a friendly month-long competition (10/10/10 through 11/9/10) between science blogs to see which can do the most to help low-income classrooms on DonorsChoose.org. Pick a classroom project from the list to support. And let’s beat the other bloggers! (By the way, DonorsChoose.org is a 501(c)3 charity. See below for approvals from Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau.)
Thank you all so much! These scales have greatly improved the accuracy of the measurements that my students can make in the classroom. By providing students with new tools that are easy to use and not outdated will help them prepare for the future.
My students have been able to make more precise measurements and see some differences that would not have been possible with our old tools. Gaining these skills in middle school will help them succeed in high school and right through college.
This would not have been possible without your support. My students and I are very grateful for the gift you have given us. Thanks again.”
With gratitude,
Mr. McClure

My students and I are truly grateful for the generous donations that all of you have contributed to our classroom. The students were very excited and could not wait to try our new science kits.
They have enjoyed the kits tremendously and love using the hands-on tools. The kits were very kid-friendly, and can be used over and over.
All of you have made our year an exciting and interesting learning experience. I am sure that my students will remember this year for a very long time.
I (we) can not thank you and DonorsChoose enough! ”
I am watching the students write their thank you letters and I am so grateful that they will be able to experience this opportunity of going to test the Rouge River and to learn first hand how important it is to protect our water resources. we will be bale to bring samples from the area and test in the classroom as well. I was so excited to open the case and let the students see "real Science" tools and know that they will be able to handle them when we put them to good use.
Thanks so much for making this project a reality for my students. They will never forget it. You can rest assured that you have indeed made a difference in the lives of our children and perhaps you will have inspired a student to look at this as their career choice. At the very least, you will have helped to make responsible, educated citizens for tomorrow's world.”

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your interest and generosity in making literacy accessible in a 21st century way for my students. They are still very excited to use the mp3 players to listen to books being read to them. Research shows that fluent reading modeled for children will help improve their own fluency. But to my students; it's just plain fun! They really enjoy using the players and have been taking very good care of them.
This was my very first project request through Donors Choose and I am just amazed at the willingness of friends, family and complete strangers to help fulfill my wish for my students. Thank you, so very much!”
Thank you so very much for our Lego table and building pieces. I cannot believe how much my students have used these materials. Every day the Lego table is full of children who are busy talking and building. They can hardly contain their excitement to play with such wonderful toys that allow them to use their imaginations with no boundaries. I have noticed that the Lego table and pieces have given my students the confidence to use English even when it is not their first language, because building knows no language. The amount of English being spoken in our classroom has increased dramatically since the children have been able to use a common love of building to bridge any gaps created by speaking English as a second language. The materials you provided to the children with your generous donations have created friendships where before there were none.”
I am always in awe of the generosity of people who choose to give to others that they do not necessarily know. The students I teach don't always see that kind of thoughtfulness in their everyday lives and are amazed that total strangers would give to something to help them learn.
This unit was a tremendous success. Not only did all of the students read The Hunger Games but most of them went on to read the entire series. Excellent discussion stemmed from their reading as did a desire to read more. Building literacy and a love of learning is essential in my classes as I believe it is essential in life. This is something that could not have happened without all of you.
I just want to reiterate my gratitude to all of you for helping to fulfill this project.Words cannot express how much your donation means to me and to my students.”
My eleventh grade students completed their first official ACT test on March 1, 2011 as part of the Michigan Merit Exam testing. The ACT preparation materials that you provided helped them to be prepared and confident about this important test. On behave of my students, I want to personally thank you.
Due to budget cuts this school year, we were not able to supply students with the resources and materials utilized in past years. My students were grateful for the materials you provided and are intent on beating the highest score of 24 from last year. Even students who have expressed trouble with their test taking skills expressed confidence in their ability to get a score of 20 or better. The students want to show the seniors that they can better their scores without receiving the materials and support that was offered last year.
Again, I want to thank you for donating to this project.”

Thank you very much for the four cassette players, four CD players and wire racks to put all the materials in. We also appreciate the four chargers so batteries are not a necessity. The materials are put into the listening center. There is not a second that a child is not using these wonderful cassettes and CDs to improve their fluency. This is a special center to my children and you are sending a powerful message to them that someone cares about their education.I enjoy that I am able to work my guided reading groups without interruption while the rest of the class is listening to tapes.
This grant has been a blessing for lowing the noise level in my classroom and keeping children focused during reading and center time. Thank you again. Mrs. Dowdall”
I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful support to my classroom and school. The
children and I have really enjoyed writing and printing our work using all of the tools that you gifted to us. It is so wonderful to know that others support education just as much as I do. The printer, transparencies, construction paper and organizers have made a great impact in our classroom because we now have these tools available when we need them. My students are enjoying writing and able to see their work in action. Again, thank you very much!!!!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Small
