It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. I would like to sincerely thank you for your generous donations as they have made it possible to have an after school yoga class. With the generous support of people like you, we will now be able to promote the physical and mental health of teenager girls. When I informed my students that our project was funded, they were jumping with joy. We are so excited for this opportunity and want to thank you again for your generous support of our efforts. ”
This is just a small token of my appreciation for your wonderfully generous donations to my classroom. The large magnetic shapes and math manipulative's for the board have helped my visual learners immensely. We use them during whole group instruction to demonstrate concepts such as place value, fractions, area, perimeter and two dimensional shapes. I have also been placing them in centers and using them for small group activities. I am able to use them for beginner and advanced students by just changing the activities that go along with the manipulative's. The children are engaged and learning at the same time.
Our school is a first year charter school and often times our funding is cut and we are not able to purchase extra things for our students. These classroom materials will allow all of the children that pass through my classroom for the years to come to enjoy math as a visual and tactile experience. Donors like you are invaluable when it comes to creating pathways for students to become interested and invested in their learning. ”
My students and I are so grateful for your kind and generous donations which have enabled us to enhance the technology in our classroom. It is amazing how much value the netbooks, printer, and flash drives have added to the learning experiences of my students this year. They have been able to watch learning concepts come to life right at their fingertips and they feel so proud of the projects they have created.
Thank you so much for your commitment to education and to our children!”
May 15, 2011 I can't fully express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching children. Currently, in my fifth grade art class my students have been studying pottery making and glazing techniques of Mata Ortiz, Mexico. They were initially inspired by hearing the story, The Pot that Juan Built.
The clay and glazes that you have funded have enabled my students to create pottery with colorful, beautiful glazes of their choice. As the main character Juan Quezada rediscovers and redevelops ancient Mesoamerican pottery techniques, similarly my students are discovering, shaping and molding a part of themselves as they explore clay building and glazing techniques. With such a small art budget, these are materials that my students would not have had the opportunity to use this year. I am so glad that classrooms like mine are able to benefit from kind, giving patrons such as you. ”
Thank you all so much for your very generous contributions to my students' learning. Your thoughtful gifts have enabled us to conduct more whole class read-alouds than we've ever been able to do before. The books you donated have led to greater student investment and participation in the reading process, and thus an increased love of reading.
Henry's Freedom Box and The Lemonade Wars were both huge hits with my students, and each book sparked lively discussions that really showed how much a good read can still capture kids' attention. But the book that really "got them" was Charlotte's Web. Watching my students - even the skeptical ones - fall in love with the characters, setting, and plot in this timeless classic reinforces the notion that it is possible to reach and connect with students through great literature.
None of this would have been possible without your generosity and thoughtfulness. Your consideration of my students is truly helping them develop into stronger reader-leaders, both today and for the future. Thank you to you all. ”
With gratitude,
Mr. Fisher
