This is the end of the year at New Design High School, an amazing progressive public school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Some of the staff here have been painstakingly writing an engaging and developmentally appropriate curriculum for our 9th Grade Marine Science students and these grants represent our effort to be fully prepared, with resources, to teach this again next year. If you could have seem the 9th graders today (March 31) you would have been convinced that science in inner city schools is alive and kicking! (or preserved and kicking...) We invited a cranial-facial reconstructive surgeon to speak with our students about the relationship between dissection and surgery. Students were thrilled, inspired, and totally grossed out by his shark dissection demo! Some of the grants on our giving page (like the books) will benefit the 9th grade science program. Other projects (like the digital balances and water testing kit) will benefit the entire science department. We thank you for your support and would like to remind you that we put together awesome thank you packages! hide
