I love studying plants! I think that these amazing green organisms are a great way to get students interested in and thinking about science. Check out the projects below and if you find one that resonates with you make a donation! And spread the word!
Thank you to all donors for playing such a key dynamic in our 'Go-Green' success this year. On behalf of my students at Central Middle School, thank you for your generous contributions. Students were engaged, applying knowledge and hands-on learning. Students relished in growing, experimenting and nurturing the garden and watching their labors turn into fruition.
Not only did students grow fruits and vegetables but also learned the importance of reusing for a purpose. The rain barrel has provided enough water for our green house and the students now understand the importance of composting and how the earth gives back. I believe students gained a satisfaction and an appreciation for the environment around them.
In times of limited resources, contributions such as yours make an incredible difference in what's available to our students. I know that my students have learned, been entertained and some have been instilled with a passion for gardening!”
My students really enjoyed interacting with the plant anatomy slides and watching the plant reproduction videos. It was great that they could visualize the microscopic anatomical structures that they were learning about in class. They thought the videos were hilarious and learned a lot about plant reproduction.
Many of my students were surprised to learn that plants can produce sexually, asexually, and sometimes both. Before this lesson they had no clue about the work that goes into producing food from plants. By understanding how plants function, students were more inclined to participate in growing and propagating seedlings in the classroom. Many were shocked at how long it takes for plants to grow, how much care they require, and were pleased to have grown something of their own. Several students began growing things at home and have plans to build their own garden in the future for fresh produce. These lessons about sustainability and self reliance are immeasurable.
Overall, my students were able to learn more about plant biology by using the materials that you so generously donated. Thank you so much for your contribution to enhance the learning of my students in an urban environment.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Bakker
This classroom project was brought to life by Produce For Kids & Meijer and 13 other donors.
Thank you for your generosity in funding this project. The garden project is one that is near and dear to our 1st grade hearts. The students are actually growing corn in the classroom! Each day they come to school excited to water and measure the crops--now if only the weather will cooperate so we can transplant them...
Anyway, we are grateful that you chose to support our hands on minds on real world connection and educational experiences. Children LOVE coming to school and that's half the battle won! Thank you for your support through Donors Choose!”
Thank you so much for your generous donation. Since receiving the items necessary for building our school garden, many students have been positively impacted, most of which have never planted a plant or gardened before.
We used the potting soil and small planting tools to plant seeds and watch them germinate into small plants, which the students observe for growth on a daily basis. Some have even expressed an interest in taking their individual plants home at the end of the project if they survive.
We have also used the larger gardening tools to begin working on our schools garden. As observed in the pictures, the garden is a work in progress. Luckily, students for years to come will have the opportunity to use these tools to ensure the success of the garden.
Thank you again. Your donations really do mean a great deal to both the students and me.”
I would like to express my deepest thanks to all of you who have given to my project. We have used some of the products to do a lab in my Biology II class and it was a great success. The students could actually see the different components of the chlorophyll that was present in the leaves that we studied. This lab impacted the students positively and involved them in the scientific process. The students were engaged and actively learning during the entire process. I appreciate the gifts that we have received and hope that you all continue to help teachers fund their projects in the future. Times are hard for everyone and your donations are greatly appreciated. Once again, thanks.”
I can't thank you enough for your donation to my project. It is heartwarming to see that we share the same vision for our children. I am determined to make my lessons more engaging as I know that our students will be very eager to learn with these new tools.
The tools that you have funded will enable our students to predict, assess, and confirm their own reasoning as they implement experiments and monitor the growth of plants. Furthermore, I will be able to see their passion for gardening grow every day as they become life learning explorers.
Thank you again for this great opportunity.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Churchwell
