Thank you so much for the donation of a new xylophone to our classroom. It's exciting to see the students get excited about playing instruments, especially since we are able to share one instrument for two students now! I wish you could have been here today as students were discovering for themselves how chords and triads work. Using xylophones gives the students a visual representation of chord structure they can hear, see and feel, addressing all three modalities of learning. The cries of "I get it!!" and the big smiles are so rewarding. You would have loved seeing (and hearing) it!
Having enough materials to go around is a huge improvement from where we were when I started teaching here. When I started, we had three instruments for 24 students. Now we have enough to share one xylophone for every two students. We're playing more complex music from many different cultures. Students are also discovering how to play songs they hear on the radio on xylophone, which can translate to keyboards when they go to high school.
Victor Hugo said, "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to keep silent." Thank you for giving my students, many of whom have difficulty expressing themselves in English, an outlet for expression, discovery, and a way to connect with something that makes us truly human. ”
Thank you so much for all your for these math materials. There is so much emphasis on reading and writing and please do not get me wrong, these are vital skills. However, math needs to be more exciting and not all kids like math. These math materials help to build confidence in my students so that they feel that they can succeed. At the beginning of the year, many of the kids had their head down and were withdrawn, however now, during math, they are excited and enjoy problem solving. I think these skills are under-rated. The skills that math problem solving include are very valuable. I love the persistence that it takes to be a good problem solver. One of the activities that I've been able to do with these materials is to create math word problems. Lots of kids HATE math word problems, however, with these "tools" their attitude is starting to change. I can not thank each and every one of you enough. Thank you for giving my kids the confidence to love math!”
We wanted to thank you for your generous gift to help our students gain access to music supplies and instruments. Since receiving the materials we have been able to incorporate a music therapy class into our weekly schedule. Music therapy is highly anticipated throughout the week. We have a support staff member that brings in his guitar and leads the group. This music therapy time gives students each a sense of belonging and accomplishment.
Our class also planned and prepared Christmas Carols to go caroling at a local nursing home. This was a huge success! Some of our students were able to have solo's playing the harmonica. Each student was able to gain a huge sense of accomplishment and that they have one more thing that they can do that can relate to their non-disabled peers!
Thank you again!!! Your support was truly a gift for my students!”
I cannot begin to express my gratitude towards all of you. Thank you so very much for supporting my students!
These books have been so beneficial in my classroom. My students absolutely love reading books that they can relate to. I've got a group of girls who love "drama" books as they call them, and if they have enough books to read that they like, they will beg for independent reading time. This is the second year I've had many of my students and it's been so exciting to see their reading growth over the past year and a half. I know it's partly because they've fallen in love with reading because of these books.
Your contribution to my classroom is far-reaching and meaningful. Thank you again for supporting my students and a wonderful organization like DonorsChoose!”

Thank you so very much again for donating to our classroom. These graphic novels have been so beneficial to my students. They absolutely LOVE the books. Since we've gotten more graphic novels in the classroom, my students beg for more independent reading time. These graphic novels are especially helpful for my struggling readers who sometimes find that reading a whole chapter book can be really daunting. Now they can read the graphic novels without feeling like they're reading "baby" books.
Your support is far-reaching and meaningful. Know that you are helping children who don't have a lot of access to books or other resources outside of the classroom. Because of you, my students are excited to check out books from our classroom library and read them at home each night.
Thank you so much again for supporting my classroom and a wonderful organization like DonorsChoose. My students and I truly appreciate it. ”
Thank you so much for the donation. My students are so excited to use the projector as much as possible. It has been great being able to plan effective lessons on a daily basis, knowing that my students and I will be able to use the technology necessary to be successful. It is great to see them improving with their technology skills and becoming very familiar and comfortable with using a SMART Board. We can also watch videos in class to enhance their learning without having to worry about if another teacher is going to need the projector. Thank you again for you generous donations. You have created a great impact on the lives of many grateful students.”
Thank you so very much for your contribution to our classroom library! Because of you, my students are becoming better readers.
These books have been flying off the shelves! My students love that these books are exciting, fairly short, written at their reading levels, but look like any other young adult book. I have students who are begging for extra reading time because they actually enjoy what they're reading. For some of my students, it may be the first time that they've successfully read a chapter book. My students are making great gains in reading this year, partly because they are reading more.
I truly appreciate what you have done for my classroom. Thank you for supporting my students and a wonderful organization like DonorsChoose. ”

I can't thank you enough for helping our classroom. I truly do have the most deserving children in the world but because of funding, I can't provide them with everything I wish they could have. Because of you I was able to purchase new writing materials as well as a couple games that the kids love using to help with grammar.
The students have really liked the step by step writing centers that I was able to purchase. There are 4 different centers that the kids are able to use when we have independent writing time. For many kids when they just get assigned a writing project they struggle with thinking of ideas of what to write about. These centers are PRICELESS because they give the kids perfect ideas for all the different genres that we write about.
Thank you again so much for helping my children. With spending so much time on writing in class I hope my children will be better able to write high school entrance papers and much more down the road. You have truly helped me become a better writing teacher by providing me the much needed materials. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! ”
Wow! Thank you so much for your kind and gorgeous support of learning in our classroom.
So far this year I have been able to take digital pictures (some will be coming your way soon) and print them for a science wall outside our room. These pictures show the kids actively involved in scientific observations using microscopes, journals and other materials. A key foundation to building a strong classroom community is to be able to post pictures that show personal learning, group work and teamwork in action.
This wall has become a connecting point for the over 250 student I see every day. they love to see what new pictures have been put up. We have a lot of families here so they get to point out themselves, friends, brothers, sister and cousins. Now all students have a place to see their learning and their participation in picture form. This has only been able to be done because of your help.
In the past, pictures and color photos have been cost prohibitive when making beginning of the year team work walls. This year I can already feel the heightened excitement and energy that students display when they look at their pictures. And this is only the beginning.
As the year progresses, students will take these photos home and new ones will be posted. Students will use color printing to add to their classroom presentations and district expositions. The last drop of ink will not be spared. Thank you for helping us add "color" and life to our presentations and overall classroom environment.

I am writing to express my gratitude and appreciation for the generous donations you made to the Newcomer Listening Center that my classroom has been enjoying these past two months. My students are in love with the listening center! Daily, they ask if they can listen to stories and I am thrilled to allow them to hear many popular and exciting stories.
These stories have already impacted their lives in astounding ways. One example in particular is fairy tales. Many of the fairy tales they are listening to are stories mainstream, English speaking children have heard over and over again. My students are not familiar with these stories and many times this leaves them out of classroom discussions in comparing and contrasting these stories with what they are presently reading. Now, they have the knowledge of these story plots and themes and can participate more actively.
Again, thank you for providing this opportunity to my students. We are thoroughly enjoying each and every story and we will for years to come!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Schultz
