  • Art Education Essentials: Need Supplies for Pre K - 8th.

    Funded Jul 30, 2011

There are many things I am thankful for. Over the last few months, I have found I am genuinely and incredibly thankful for this opportunity I have with students in Hazlehurst. Students get to use their energy to create. They can cut. They can glue. They can paint, draw, measure, tear, construct, fold, and so many other activities. If only you could see how proud they are of what they created! I can't tell you how many times I hear, "Look! Ms. Musselman, look what I did!"

I want to thank YOU for giving me this opportunity. More importantly, I want to thank you for giving this opportunity to these children. There were only a few times when I told the students they would have to finish their project at home. In response, several of the students said, "But Ms. Musselman, I don't have crayons at home."

Thank you so much for helping me supply this Art Room. It is because of you that the 1200 kids of Hazlehurst Elementary School have an opportunity to create so many wonderful things and see they CAN do it. Your generosity means so much to me and it means the world to them.

Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Musselman

  • Add-Ons Aid Academic Achievement

    Funded Jul 14, 2011

We are so thankful for your generous contribution to our classroom! My students are excited because they can finally use the iPods that I have been telling them about. Before my new students began using our technology, I wanted to get them protected. Your donations help provide the cases to keep our resources in good working order.

This project is going to also make using the technology easier. Using the technology 6 periods a day, keeps the batteries depleted. The chargers you help provide are going to be utilized in order to make our technology time last longer and be more productive.

Thank you for your support. It means the world to my students and to me. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hardin

  • Mind Body Medicine- Yoga "Getting out the Wiggles"

    Funded Jul 25, 2011

I begin today by thanking you from the bottom of my heart. The day the supplies arrived my dream became a reality. Each day we begin our morning message with two-three yoga pretzel cards. The students have learned multiple ways to breathe and stretch their muscles before settling into a reading lesson. These breathing techniques have also come in very handy for students who need to calm down or gain control of stress. They now have many ways they can calm their minds in order to communicate their feelings!

I wish you could see the look in my student's eyes when I bring out the yoga mats each week. We kick off our shoes and begin challenging our minds in ways we previously haven't. The students have learned some yoga basics and each week the moves seem to get easier! They really enjoy the time we spend on the mats and show it with their expressions! I've heard many compliments from parents, about their students going home and bragging about being able to do yoga!

I have found these practices to really round out my student's thinking and mind/body wellness. My students are able to maintain better focus, better self-esteem, and believe it or not their imaginative writing has improved! Thank you for giving us something to call our own and allowing us to make a connection to the outside world! These life skills will travel with them forever! ”

  • Mathmagical Bags

    Funded Jun 16, 2011

I sincerely want to thank each of you for your donation to the Mathemagical Bags project. The 10 backpacks are enough for almost half of my students to take one home each week. Each bag has a book and a different mathematical activity or game to play with their family. The feedback at our first conference was very positive from parents. Dialogue at home has more of a math focus from playing the games and enjoying the literature together. Because you were so generous I will be able to change the activities as the year goes on. A few of the backpacks are just right covering skills we currently are learning about, a couple of backpacks have higher skills for later. Mostly my goal was to put math in the homes of my students and to give the parents a format for fun, conversation and ways to help their students increase their math skills. These things have all happened due to the use of Mathemagical Bags.

It is exciting to see children be enthused about their bag for the week. It warms my heart when someone doesn't get a bag and their little face is full of disappointment. This means they look forward to their turn for a fun mathmagical time with their family.

Thanks you again for your kindness. It is appreciated by myself and my students.”

  • Cozy Comfort Needed for Creating Readers!

    Funded Apr 8, 2011

I want to sincerely thank each of you for your donations to my classroom. When I first heard of Donor's Choose, I was pleasantly surprised to hear of such a unique and caring organization. What makes it special though, are the individuals and companies like you that make it all possible.

The bean bags you helped purchase are used everyday by my students. They use them to read, the love to sit in them while we're working on our SmartBoard, and they also really enjoy sitting in them while working on the laptops.

Not a day goes by when students come into my room that I don't hear, "Can we use the beanbags today?" I teach in a very impoverished district, and many of my students don't have many measures of comfort at home. You can be sure that the beanbags you helped purchase are making their lives better, if only for the twenty minutes that they get to sit in them and read peacefully.

Lastly, I'd like to apologize for my delay in getting this thank you letter written. The beanbags arrived at our classroom towards the end of the school year last spring, and since I had a baby over the summer I have been on maternity leave until very recently. I'm back now, and this was on my list of priorities to get done, thanking you all for your kindness and generosity.

    Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. L.

  • The Right Way to Relax

    Funded Aug 15, 2011

I would like to thank all of the donors for their incredible donation to my project: The Right Way To Relax. The items I selected have already been used by many of the students in Robert F Kennedy School.

Many students come to office when they need a break from class due to anxiety, anger, or behavioral problems. They are often agitated or stressed and have benefited from many of the sensory tools available to them to assist them to relax so they are able to calmly discuss and resolve their problems. In addition, my counseling groups have greatly enjoyed many of the board games donated to us. Counseling group topics typically range from anger management, social skill development, and ways to handle being bullied. The games provide a non-threatening way for these students to discuss and learn about these important topics.

I can not thank you enough for your generosity with my project and am so grateful so many students have the opportunity to utilize all the resources now available to them. Without donors like yourselves, projects such as mine would not be available to many of the students who need them most! ”

  • Help Us Afford Enzyme Catalysis Kits Needed for AP Lab!

    Funded Aug 6, 2011

Thank you so very much for donating to my AP class this year. It was the first AP lab they did all year and they were SO excited to do a real college-level laboratory investigation! They truly enjoyed the challenge of this highly engaging and thought provoking series of experiments. And not only did they enjoy doing the lab, but they also learned a lot from running the different experiments! They were able to perform techniques they'd never done before, which will definitely come in handy when they enter college and have to take science classes there. Also, they've had very little exposure to actual inquiry-based science investigations. It was a real eye-opener for them to experience that. They also felt very moved by the fact that all their materials were donated to THEM, so that they could participate in the activity! They felt so special! I think it made them take a little more pride in their work too, knowing that someone else paid for them to learn something! You really impressed them with your generosity. I hope that they too will one day will realize the value of educating our nations youth and become donors themselves. That's an even greater life lesson than simply learning about how enzymes function.”

  • Dance Unit

    Funded Aug 15, 2011

This letter is to express my gratitude for your generous donation to my PE program. The Soundock and iPod Nano have been used every day since we received them. Students have enjoyed performing some of the basic dances we do at the beginning of the year, including "The Chicken Dance", "Who Let the Dogs Out", "The Cha-Cha Slide", "The Casper Slide", and "Freeze Dance". In the next couple weeks we will be performing "The Thriller" dance for the Halloween holiday.

The system is used almost constantly during PE. Students love listening to music by their favorite artists while we play games and get fit. You have helped to contribute to the health and fitness of hundreds of students at my school. Thank you for donating to my project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gault

  • Lets Get Physical

    Funded Aug 25, 2011

This letter is just a small token of my appreciation for your generous donation to help fund a project that will improve my Physical Education program. My goal is to lower the percentage of childhood obesity and diabetes. The Jump Band Kit and extra Jump bands you helped fund is a start. My students love music, using jump ropes and dancing. So having the jump bands combines all three activities into one. Watching my students learn new and exciting ways to get physically fit while having fun is a reward in itself.

Our school is currently being affected by the budget crisis and with your kind donation you helped me get one step closer to lowering childhood obesity and diabetes. My students are asking me everyday to use the Jump Bands to start class. It is so nice to see the students excited to come to class.

Without such wonderful donors like you, there would be Physical Education programs in New York City as well as the United Stated that would have to do without. Thank you again for supporting New York City Education as well as the health of our future. ”

  • Quality Writing Tools for All!

    Funded Aug 22, 2011

Thank you so much for donating to my project. We've received all the materials and had a big "naming" ceremony for our binders. The students are thrilled with them and we use them every day. Even some of my most reluctant writers are diving into new writing projects with renewed motivation. The students love having all of their supplies in one spot and are learning to organize their writing as we work through the writing process. Currently the students are working on drafts of a personal narrative.

Unfortunately many of our students have limited resources and don't have much to call their own. With building budgets getting much smaller in recent years, we are unable to provide these supplies for our students. Your donation makes a huge difference to me, my students and their writing growth.

They were amazed that strangers would be so generous with their resources. What an incredible lesson for them!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Crosby
