It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, I am currently subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what is a ridiculous looking Mustache. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing bad to say about a Mustache, in general, or those who are bold enough to don one as a course of regular grooming. It just not a look that works for me. At all. The picture says it all, really. So in order to justify this endeavor I need ... more
It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. So in order to justify this endeavor I need your support this week. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project or two from the list below to support. As you'll see, the money donated goes to specific classroom needs and will be of great help to those who need us most, the kids. We have very few opportunities to make such a quick, practical and signficant impact than to donate to one or more of these projects , which makes this effort all the more worthwhile. So donate to a project or two today and wish me and my Mustache luck. (By the way, DonorsChoose.org is a 501(c)3 charity. • Trout-a-Palooza: Protecting P. Creek

    Funded Apr 4, 2011

I wanted to thank you again for all of your help and dedication to helping the students and myself learn more about Peters Creek. You are all an asset to the community. As the students wrote letters to the incoming seventh graders, they all raved about the Peters Creek field trip and the memories they made. Many students asked if they could bring in a flash drive and copy the pictures they took. They wanted to have copies for themselves. Not only did they learn about environmental science, they learned about technology.

It is only with the help of sites like donorschoose.org and those persons such as yourself that have made a direct impact in the classroom. No monies were spent on administrative functions. The students were deeply affected. I'm always impressing upon them the need to give back when they can whether it be with their time, talents, or money. Hopefully they will remember what someone did for them and pay it forward!

Thank you again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cramer

  • Boy's Achievment in Literacy Through Technology

    Funded Apr 22, 2011

On behalf of my outstanding boys I would like to express my gratitude for your belief in all of us. The teachers and students have been working hard to bring our students up to academic excellence. We couldn't do this without the strong belief that they can learn and will be high achievers.

Your support will greatly assist the boys in learning. Technology is one tool that keeps the boys engaged through their learning process. It will also motivate them to want to continue writing in a professional format. When the boys write, they write from their heart. The computer will allow them to have more creative expression in their presentation and also learn how to correct themselves grammatically. I can now teach them additional programs such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. This will help them in their preparation for high school and college.

Blessings to all of you and your families for your dedication to our youth. I am so excited to tell the boys tomorrow!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. D.

  • Little Explorers

    Funded Apr 14, 2011

The Leapster Explorers are a hit! My students love them and they have become a quiet, engaging center! The charging stations have already saved us money as I have already needed to recharge each system twice-- that would have been 32 batteries. The headphones make these truly a quiet and individual learning opportunity. The cases are also great, as they keep the systems and games clean and scratch free!

Now, to the actual games and Explorers-- I am still in awe at how cool these are! The first night they arrived, I brought them home to set up and ended up playing for an hour! They have a touch screen, a stylus, buttons, a port to add on a camera, the ability to download games, and much more. My students love the high interest games: toy story, tinker bell, football, and princesses-- oh my!

These games have truly transformed my center time and some of my students' attitudes towards school. They ask about the games as soon as they walk in the door! Thank you so much for giving my students a chance to use some of the newest technology while learning at the same time!! Your impact does not stop at the 23 students I have this year, but all classes for years to come! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Javens

  • A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier

    Funded Apr 20, 2011

I want to thank all of you for donating to this project! It is great to see that everyone of you share the same dream for educating our students today. In my multicultural studies class I have tried to incorporate as much reading as possible that is relevant to our class studies, but that will also be enjoyable for my students.

One part of our unit deals with Africa. When the class travels to each part of the world we take an in depth look at the culture of the people, the life of teenagers in different countries, and also how colonization and European contact has changed life in these areas.

Again thank you so much for donating and funding this project. I hope you will keep up the generosity with other projects, especially since funding for education keeps dwindling.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Eskra

  • HELP! 1st Grade SUPER Readers Need More Books!

    Funded Feb 25, 2011

I can't really express how truly grateful I am for your generous donations. Each day when I see my students looking through the classroom library to choose a book, it warms my heart. I feel so happy when they find a new book and get excited to read it!

Since we've received the new books, my students are taking TONS of Accelerated Reader quizzes on the computer. Once they read a book three times, they can take a reading comprehension quiz on that book. The students WANT to read because they have so many choices of wonderful leveled books - thanks to all of you!

Thank you for your generosity. Your donation will continue to help kids LOVE reading! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Janet Riegelmayer

  • Getting a New Start in Our Art Room

    Funded Feb 25, 2011

You should know that your generosity and donations have impacted almost 500 students at our school. With the art supplies that we received we have been able to make beautiful paintings, large murals from recycled bottlecaps, clay projects, collages and more! As a new teacher to this school, I feel like I have some great materials and resources now to help the students create some amazing art. Without your help, my students would not have had these amazing creative art opportunities that I am able to give them now. Thank you so much for your donations”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Meyers

  • Future Scientists!!!

    Funded Mar 1, 2011

I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all the donors that helped make this project possible. These science resources are making a huge difference in the classroom. My students are using them everyday and are learning so many new concepts. The hands on materials are benefiting the students and creating a sense of understanding for them. It is a great feeling as their teacher to see them learn about science and realize how the concepts work. Its great to hear them tell me what they learned for the day.

These resources have been so helpful and with school funding cuts you all have made this possible for my students. For young students hands on materials create a self confidence in learning and give them a great foundation before having to take state test.

Thank you again to all the donors who have made this happen. I will make sure that my students know how many great people are out there that care about their education. Thanks Again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Busch
