  • Bring an Author to School!

    Funded Apr 21, 2010

My students and I would like to say "Thank You" from the bottom of our hearts. We live in a low- income area, where there is little-to-no extra money for supplies, let alone new books for Reading class. You gave us wonderful gifts.

As you can see from the pictures the books were snatch-up quickly. The boys were extremely excited to have a novel that included a character that Deer hunted. They could not wait to get our group started. The girls loved the book Click.

In the picture in the gym with the students standing, we were using the Webcam you bought us to speak with the author of Buck Fever. We Skyped with her.  It was so cool. My students thought they were the coolest kids ever. This was the first time this had been done in our area.

Thank you all for making our dream a reality!

    I truly appreciate your help”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roush

  • Supplies Needed for Science Classroom

    Funded Feb 26, 2010

I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting my classroom. The supplies that your donations purchased have been a welcome gift. Believe me when I tell you that we have been putting the needed resources to great use.

The best would have to be the pencil sharpener. We have made due with an old hand crank pencil sharpener that the students could barely get their pencils sharpened. Now we have an endless supply of sharpened pencils. This allows more focus due to minimized disruptions. The other supplies like the Post-It notes are used for our exit tickets, the portfolios are used for opening class assignments, and the rulers and resource books are used daily on our learning.

Again, thank you for your generous support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fields

  • Cook with Kindergarten

    Funded Feb 10, 2010

I can't begin to tell you how thankful and grateful I am for your kind and generous donations. Our community is very poor. The students in my room were amazed by the kitchen set. Some of them had never laid their young, innocent eyes on something so nice.

The students asked me where it came from, and I explained to them that there were several awesome people who make it possible. They were so sweet with their kind words. I am elated at the joy each of you have brought to my students.

I sincerely hope that each of you can grasp the impact that you have had on my classroom. They are in love with the kitchen set. They play with it every time they get a chance. I believe that each of you have made a difference in each of their lives. I thank you from the bottom of my heart! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Taylor

  • Protection and Perception

    Funded Feb 25, 2010

I would like to take this time to tell you that I am so grateful for your contributions to this project. It is nice to know that there are people who are dedicated to the success of our students.

These safety glasses have been a real joy to use in class. My students were so excited to have these new up-to-date, safety glasses. I also really like that fact that I can sterilize them very quickly between class periods.

Again, I want to thank you for your generous donation to DonorsChoose and my classroom projects. You really have make a difference in my classroom and for that I am most thankful. From the bottom of my heart thank you! ”

  • Walter Dean Myers Author Study

    Funded Mar 15, 2010

I hope you are all well! I wanted to extend a personal and heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you who helped to make this project happen.

We have spent the last month reading the first of the two novels, Somewhere in the Darkness, and the students really did love the book. So many of them do not have books at home, or a quiet place that they can sit to read, so my classroom is the one place where they can really enjoy the experience of "getting lost in a book".

For many of the students, the story of a teenage boy who has not seen his father due to him being in prison was a familiar one. It was a great opportunity for the students to feel safe to share some of their own thoughts, through the safety-net of the novel.

The students are already asking when we can start reading "Hoops" and I'm hoping to find a way to read quickly and fit it in before the end of the year.

    Thanks again to you all!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Carlson

  • Loving Learning In Kindergarten!

    Funded Feb 19, 2010

I want to take this opportunity to thank you again for your donation to the "Loving Learning in Kindergarten" project. My students have been working with their new materials for several weeks now and are absolutely thrilled every time I introduce a new activity. They are constantly asking if we are going to play the "fun" games; what they don't realize is how much they are learning while they work with the new activities!

The students have been increasing their rhyming skills as well as developing better initial and final sound judgment. The nursery rhyme kit has been very well received by the students and they love reciting the rhymes while adding the characters to the felt board. I have found so many uses for the sound tubs that I hadn't even thought of before receiving them and the students love to explore the objects in the tubs. They are definitely a bit hit in the kindergarten classes!

Thank you again for your generous donation to this project. Your support has made a huge difference in the lives of so many of the students at my school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Corbin

  • Kan U Spel That, Pleez?

    Funded Mar 15, 2010

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom resources. With funding being cut in all areas of education, we are encouraged by your support in helping struggling learners. The Children's Spelling and Talking Dictionaries that you have donated are now a daily part of our activities.

The students enjoy the features in these dictionaries, especially the word games. The dictionaries have helped them become more independent in editing their work. They actually look forward to correcting spelling errors and finding synonyms for over-used words when making revisions. They create their own lists of new words and definitions. The talking feature has improved students' confidence in their reading skills. All of this, thanks to your generous donations!

People can overlook the need for relevant and practical tools in helping children, especially those with learning challenges, in achieving educational success. It is donors like you who play a role in helping these students accomplish their goals. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bedlow

  • Our Little Town--Part II

    Funded Feb 26, 2010

Thanks so much for your gifts, resulting in a new Brother LC61 Series color printer for our classroom. Because we received the new printer, we were able to complete our "My Little Town" project. Our town has a spring Strawberry Festival, and the theme this year is "Family Traditions." Our photo project fit right in, because the students took photos of people and places in our area that are special to them. We are displaying those images at a local Art Gallery, and we anticipate many visitors to view our photos during the festival.

Thank you for taking an interest in the needs of small schools. Your gift enabled us to complete the photos for our show, and allowed us to share our pride in our community. ”

  • NOT so Simple Machines

    Funded Feb 26, 2010

The materials you donated to our classroom had a greater impact on learning than I could have ever anticipated.

I was able to use the materials in both my 7th and 8th grade classes. Each grade spent three days doing a variety of activities exploring the concepts of simple machines. My 7th graders built, used, and collected data about input and output forces on pulley systems, inclined planes, and levers, while my 8th graders worked on calculating the mechanical advantage of both pulley systems and inclined planes. My 8th grade students also got to experience the concept of "work" and the relationship between forces and distance when mechanical work is being accomplished.

I must say an overall favorite was the pulley systems. The students and I were extremely fascinated with the results we were able to achieve. The students were able to lift a 5 Newton load 30 cm off the ground by applying a 1.2 Newton force but they had to move their end 120-130 cm. They would have never fully grasp the relationship between force and distance without this experience. You could feel the sense of accomplishment they had, it was an unforgettable aura in the room.

Thank you for your contribution to our classroom. You have not only made a significant impact on my current students, but with a couple spools of string students in my future classrooms will be able to learn the same things. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Uhl

  • Laptops, Science Literacy, Learning, Love

    Funded Mar 15, 2010

I cannot thank you enough for providing these resources for our classroom. The netbook computers will make our space look, feel and function like a 21st century science laboratory. It is such a relief finally to be able to provide our students with a fully functional technology situation. This will, no doubt, help them to focus on the science at hand.

Currently, our students are using Google documents to create powerpoint presentations about different kinds of energy sources (coal, wind, natural gas, etc.) They are excited and motivated now that we're using these relevant tools. Once again, your help is contributing to the positive growth and college preparedness of 100+ students this year and many more students in years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rothauser
