Matt Bartley's Mustache

  • $90raised

It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Architectural Model Building

    Funded Nov 19, 2010

I would like to take a moment to thank the donor's for this project. The materials that were purchased by you made this project possible. This project has turned out to be one of the most rewarding activities that we have done this year. When I first started planning this project I thought it would be a project where the students would design and build a scaled of a home for a client, but it ended up being a much larger and more rewarding project.

When I announced the project I started by saying that they would have to interview a client to design a home for. Most of the students were interested in the project but not all. I followed that statement by saying that we not only were going to design the homes but we were also going to construct a small scaled model of the house. That was the hook. I showed them a few examples of what the model will look like. A few of the students stated "We'll never be able to do that.....". Well a month later they were building their own models. As students completed their homes we were able to do sunlight studies and a many or add-on lessons to the project.

This project made me realize once again why project based learning projects are such a strong tool to use in the classroom. As far as this project goes, it would not have been possible without all of the generous donors here at donorschoose.com. Thank you so much for your support. Wish I could have captured the sprit in the room as they were building their projects.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Walker

  • Enhancing Reading with Current Events

    Funded Dec 30, 2010

Thank you so much for your contribution. You have directly impacted 22 students this year. My students absolutely love the materials that were purchased from your donation.

I have implemented the use of the Weekly Readers every Friday. After students complete their reading test for the week. They are given the privilege to read the weekly readers. The students are extremely interested in the topics discussed in the weekly readers. Therefore, they have increased the motivation for students to want to read. Sometimes I even see students look at the weekly readers during the week when they are not suppose to. This has increased student enjoyment and motivation to read. I am so grateful. The Weekly Readers are being saved to be used year after year as a reading incentive.

In addition to the Weekly Readers, I was also able to purchase and intervention kit for reading. This kit provided numerous activities for students to do that connected with the reading skills in fourth grade. For example, it has activities for inferencing, main idea, cause and effect etc. This kit provide extremely fun and interactive ways for students to connect the reading skill to themselves. I have been using these as whole class instruction. The students love them! This kit provides cards to use year after year to increase students reading skills in a fun and meaningful way.

Thank you again. Your donation has provided much needed motivation and support in reading for many students and many more to come. Please realize that every dollar you donate directly affect many students! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kowalski

  • Listen Up & Read

    Funded Nov 16, 2010

    Dear Donors,

I can't thank you enough for you generous donations for our listening center. My student's faces were priceless when I received these big boxes in my room and told them that we have received a listening center and new books on cd. Their excitement to use these centers is still as strong as it was from the first day. My 26 students utilize these listening centers every day and it has helped my struggling students want to read books and it has helped my stronger students become more engaged in rigorous books.

My wonderful first grade students would not have had the opportunity to choose from so many fun books and new ways to read without all of your help. You generosity in my classroom is greatly appreciated and my students thank you from the bottoms of their hearts.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bailey
