Mark Helmick's Mustache

  • $377raised

It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Technology: Visual and Media Literacy!

    Funded Feb 25, 2010

I can't thank you enough for your generous contributions! My classroom is sorely lacking in technology. Our school has grown from a K-5 to a K-8 with extremely little funding for the transition, and the school is struggling to keep up with technology as well as provide access to all students in one computer lab. My classes share the lab with the entire 4-8th grades in the school. With your generosity, my students will now have easy access to a laptop in the classroom, and we can utilize it for visual presentations, individual work on our zines, internet research, and a million other things!

My students will greatly benefit from the netbook in the classroom. I love to see students excited about learning, and your contributions are making that happen!! My students' lives are going to improve by becoming better at creating and giving visual presentations, learning about research skills and finding valid information, and just generally becoming more comfortable with the technology they will eventually use in the workforce. You have given my students a great gift, and I am extremely grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gray

  • Support Materials For Insect Science Unit

    Funded Feb 5, 2010

I want to thank you for your generous gift. My school district provides for a bare bones science experience studying insects. I have had to supplement through the years with my own money to provide books and hands-on materials to make the learning of science come alive for my students.

With your gifts, my students are immersed in butterfly and insect science with books, music, science videos, puzzles, art supplies, and puppets! They love to learn from all of these hands-on activities. More importantly, I see them really understanding the material. They understand the life cycle, different kinds of butterflies, where they live, and how they are important to us. I see ecologists in the making! Three cheers for science!

Thanks again! You have made a difference in the lives of children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Robb

  • Fabulous Fourth Grade Scientists

    Funded Feb 14, 2010

Thank you for your generosity in funding my Fabulous Fourth Grade Scientists project. The donation that you made has certainly made a difference to my students. Our materials arrived promptly, and we have been using them to reinforce the concepts that we are learning in Science.

We are just finishing the Bones and Skeletons unit, and my students have used the multilevel books Amazing Plants and Animals not only to increase their information about different environments and the adaptations that plants and animals have made, but also to practice getting information from reading captions, looking at the photographs, charts and diagrams. I have used these books for small groups and partner reading. My students can read books at their level, and then participate in class discussions since the content is the same. The activity tubs and games have been wonderful! The experiment cards and hands on activities have given my students an opportunity to review and learn new information.

As you can see your donations have made a difference.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Williams

  • Here's a Ratio- 1 Laptop:1 Student- Can You Help!? (Part 2)

    Funded Feb 23, 2010

Thank you all again for taking part in making this project a reality! The laptop arrived and my students began using it immediately and have already had so much fun with it! They have used the computer to work on math, reading, and to look up answers to questions during science. Students work even harder during class so that they have a chance to use the laptop! I can already see the difference it is making in the level of engagement in school.

My students were so excited to know that people they don't know gave money to help get a laptop to help them learn better. My students have started brainstorming a way for them to give back to others. Hopefully we will decide on a way to pay it forward soon : )

    Once again, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
