  • Human Trafficking is Real

    Funded Jun 8, 2010

Although I have not yet been able to utilize the book Sold in my classroom, I look forward to my school's second semester and my world cultures class. I am very excited to have the opportunity to speak to my students about human trafficking and how the cultures in different parts of the world turn a blind eye to the poor treatment of women and especially young girls.

This book is ideal for high school students because of its short length and broken up chapters. It will be perfect for reading aloud in the classroom setting, and is written in simple enough language that readers of all levels will be able to easily understand. I have a couple different writing assignments planned for the book, as well as supplemental information about human trafficking, and especially sex trafficking in developing and developed nations.

I have a great hope that my students will be inspired by this book to go out and make a difference for people in need, and that they will spread their knowledge amongst their peers about the hardships faced by young women in other parts of the world. If just one of them does one thing to try to help the plight of the victims of human trafficking, I feel that I will have done my job and changed the world.”

  • The Breadwinner: Reading to Learn About Afghanistan

    Funded Jul 6, 2010

Once again would like to express my thanks at your generosity in funding my Afghanistan project. I am honored that you found this project worthy of your support.

My students were so excited about this project. From the moment we started reading this book, they were focused and engaged. They found the book to be action-filled, suspenseful and informative. When we reached a point that I wanted to stop reading to discuss the events of the book, I found that I had to take the book away from some students so that they would participate in the discussion. Once engaged in discussion, their input was so thoughtful, sincere and inquisitive.

They found it hard to believe that people actually face the hardships faced by the characters in this book. Coming from a rural community, this was a great eye-opener for my students. I firmly believe it helped them to appreciate the freedoms they enjoy.

After finishing the book, I have had a long list of students waiting to read the sequels that your donation provided as well. Their interest in this trilogy of books has helped to spark an excitement for reading in these students. Thank you for being integral in that.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Perkins

  • I'm On the Cover

    Funded Apr 29, 2010

I do not feel that my words can convey how wonderful your contribution to our school DISTRICT has been. Not only have you impacted students in my fifth and sixth grade building, but you helped our students spread the joy of reading to two neighboring elementary schools impacting first through third grade students as well. We are pleased with the success of this project. Our students are not always represented on the covers or as characters in the books they read but with the money that you contributed, our collection of books have been enhanced greatly. Our older students shared literature with their younger counterparts and invited them into reading by exposing them to books with varied content; cultural, religious, and experiential. For some of our students, this was the first time that they were able to truly connect to literature.

With the stories that were shared between our mentors and mentees great community relationships were built. Thank you very much for your selfless donations. With so many projects to choose from, we are honored that you selected us and our ideas. Your support continues through this year as well as we share this literature and prepare ourselves to expose our elementary counterparts to the experiences in the stories. Thank you. Thank you. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bielecki

  • Ready, Set, Learn!

    Funded May 21, 2010

On behalf of my students, I greatly appreciate all of the donations you have provided me with thus far.

Many times, those who are not teachers do not understand the lengths we go through to make sure that out students are successful in school. Alot of focus is given to schools not having adequate technology or the best textbooks to use. But, it can be the simplest of things that can have the greatest affect on a child's success.

I want to continue to make sure that my students have all that they need, but it does becoming taxing at times, especially in today's economy. I am so grateful that through this program, and with the help of complete strangers, together, we are able to ensure that students have all that they need to be successful in their learning!

Again, thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Peebles

  • To Publish or Not to Publish?

    Funded Apr 17, 2010

I would sincerely like to thank you for having the consideration to finance my project "To Publish or Not to Publish." It was amazing for me to see how fast my project became financed. I apologize for the delay in my thank you package, as I moved schools and many of my files were moved and misplaced. The delay does in no way reflect any disregard for what you have done for us.

My students were very excited at hearing we were receiving the materials and even more excited once they came. We used the paint markers for activities around Christmas time, so they were familiar with what they were and enjoyed working with them, as they made their book artwork come more alive. The paint markers were used on their covers, and the colored pencils were used on the individual pictures within the book. We were unable to use the CDs yet as they arrived late in the year, and we did not have time to fully complete a project with them. I intend on using them this next year though with my 6th grade Math classes to write some Math related books so they can show their understanding of Math concepts.

In closing, I would just like to reiterate my heart-felt thanks. It is my intention to try to help others trying to do projects of their own. It is a testament that there are people willing to help others they don't know personally. Again, thank you and God Bless.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • All Rested Up!

    Funded May 9, 2010

I would like to send a note expressing my gratitude. My students are really enjoying the new resting mats that you helped to purchased for our classroom. We use them everyday and resting time is such a wonderful part of our school day. Every one of the students has their own mat that they use everyday. They are so thick and comfortable. We love them!

Without your support this could not have been possible. With little to no funds to spend in our classroom, this has been a wonderful addition to our supplies. Thank you again for thinking that this project was worth while.

We look forward to using these mats for many years. Thanks again for the donation. Rest time is the best time!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fila

  • "Lights, Camera, History!"

    Funded Feb 11, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation for my classroom. We used the cameras for our final projects in social studies. Students selected a historical figure and along with a partner started to conduct the appropriate research on their figure. They then started to write their scripts in which they had to have at least five important facts. Basically they are teaching us about their figure by using the talk show format. Once their scripts are complete they then took time to rehearse and create backgrounds for their talk show background. The whole premise is basically that of a Jay leno/Conan/Oprah talk show. One student is the interviewer one person is the interviewee. Students used the camcorders to record their talkshows.

The kids loved this activity it was a great way to end the school year. They enjoyed using the technology in the class. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to have them complete this activity and get excited about social studies. Thank you so much.”

  • Click on Success

    Funded Jan 18, 2010

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The multimedia projector you donated will help my students every day. We will be able to use it to learn social studies and mathematical concepts in a fun and exciting way. Students will be able review concepts and play educational games that require this projector. This summer I have already started allowing students to help create lessons using slide shows. They told me they could not wait for the school year to start.

Our school is currently facing a budget shortfall, so without your help, my students would never have this vital resource. Social Studies and math are both vital components in the educational process. Now all students will be motivated to learn through the use of technology, and motivation is very important in achieving academic success.

Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without.”

  • Unlimit Learning With a Netbook

    Funded Feb 2, 2010

In receiving this donation, I am touched not only by your generosity but also your desire to give back to these students. I feel pride in being selected to receive this gift. I feel a responsibility to uphold the expectations that accompany such an honor. I feel an excitement to some day be in your position, giving back to students who are less fortunate.

My students also feel honored to receive a donation. They were so excited to receive a gift from someone who cared about their classroom and learning experience. Thank you for your gift and the "immeasurable" impact it has had on my students.”

  • What Can I Do? I Am Only One Child.

    Funded Apr 22, 2010

Hello donors, and thank you from the depths of my heart. This was an amazing thing you have done for my students. We are so very grateful and so excited to have these to conduct experiments with my elementary and middle school students. We have worked hard to get out students thinking about their world and how they can make a difference in protecting our waterways. Some of them rote letters to the city hall to get the storm sewers repaired and the water cleaned up. Imagine their surprise when city hall responded by cleaning up the sewers and fixing them so they worked again. the teachers gave them a standing ovation because they no longer had to drive through flooded streets to get to work.Once they realized that they could achieve results, they wanted other places to affect change on. We began with he local river shed and the terrible pollution it had undergone. We help to perform tests but did not have the necessary materials to do so.

You have helped them reach another goal and begin to amass field work on this area and hopefully will inspire them to look for career options in the STEM field.

    Thank you so much!”
