  • Freedom of Expression.....Artistic Expression

    Funded Aug 20, 2009

I cannot begin to express how thankful I am for wonderful people like you. Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and my students by donating to our project. The students are able to use these materials to creatively express themselves. My students have so many talents and passions and art is very near and dear to many of their hearts.

It is so great to be able to integrate hands on art activities into the classroom. I believe in thinking outside the box and helping my students see outside Other box. These materials help me expose them to the wonderful world of the arts and show them how the arts connect with their core academic classes.

My students are being given the opportunity to have a more well-rounded experience in the classroom due to your support! Although they do not know you, would not recognize your face in a crowd, you have impacted their educational experience greatly! Thank you for believing in education and making a stand to support today's students. I truly appreciate you and am inspired by your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Masengale

  • DANCE! Dancing: Absolutely Necessary for Children's Education

    Funded Sep 17, 2009

We're going to dance our hearts out, thanks to your generosity and vision!  You have kept the performing arts alive by supporting this program so that our students can dance and attend performances.  Your impact on so many students is a powerful one and what a way to make a difference.  You are bringing the joy of the performing arts to so many children who will learn to improvise, interpret, and express themselves through movement.  This is just tremendous and it is uplifting to know that there are people who agree with us that the performing arts are a MUST in education.

Thank you for supporting a dance program that offers an original way to learn.  You cannot imagine the excitement you have generated, and the fact that we will be bringing our students to performances that relate to the dances they will learn in school is absolutely wonderful!  We could not have otherwise participated in such a wide scope, but you have made it possible with faith and support for our project.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Our children are the beneficiaries and they have received a clear message.  They are importance and they count in our future.  That's a powerful message to send to children who look to education for their future success.  We do not underestimate your contribution to the lives of young children and for that we are most grateful”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alperstein

  • Help Us Find Our Inner Spielberg!

    Funded Sep 10, 2009

Thank you so much for your generosity! Our Drama program is in the rebuilding stages after a 3 year hiatus due to budget cuts. We are slowly but surely expanding on the resources we have and DonorsChoose.org has been a huge part of that. The camera is a big motivator and it really gets the kids excited to learn and perform!

A few weeks ago we started using the video camera and what an amazing addition to our class! The students are so tickled to have the chance to see themselves on film. We filmed our class plays and scenes - so now 180 students have been able to see themselves in their very own movies. As a continuation of our study of movies, we are creating silent movies in conjunction with an upcoming movie night. This will allow parents and community members to see the successes of our students. So thank you for allowing this to happen.

And thinking ahead to the end of the semester, we have started to create a large collection of videos that will be put on a DVD for each student to keep. What a great memory for these students to have! Middle school is a hard time for so many kids and to have their performances on DVD to watch as a positive reminder of their successes is priceless.

I can't thank you enough for your kindness and support of the arts!  ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Whittaker

  • Music On the Inside Out

    Funded Sep 1, 2009

Since you gave much has happened: I spoke to our school board on October 14, 2009 to raise the awareness of your efforts, and to raise the awareness of the importance of music education in our schools. Our band instruments arrived on October 15, 2009. The students that still needed instruments received them on October 20 due to our schedule. Locally, your efforts brought attention to our need, and helped us to win two more projects with Donors Choose: one project for 42 band books, and one project for 250 clarinet reeds.

My students are just beginning to play their first songs: Mary had a Little Lamb, Hot Cross Buns, and Go Tell Aunt Rhodie. Students are mastering reading their first 5 notes. They are working on correct posture, fingerings, tonguing (note separation), and embouchure (mouth placement on mouthpiece). And they are practicing at recess!

I have watched down hearted kids - those without instruments - turn into bright shining smiles and dispositions when the new instruments got into their hands. THANKS TO YOU! Many have worked very hard since Oct. 20 to catch up to the class, and not only did they catch up, but some surpassed other students that have had an instrument since Oct. 5.

Your gift will serve 42 students this year, and over 200 students in the next 5 years. This is an incredible gift. This was a unique request that came about in a miraculous way thanks to Adam Lambert, and all of his fans. Thank you for being so responsive to these children. They are just starting to make music at the 5th grade level, and they are joyful.

Personally, you all are amazing. Your heart toward this project and your love for Adam Lambert was the right combination at the right time. Thanks again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brewster

  • Let Them Be Heard!

    Funded Aug 20, 2009

I can't thank you enough for your generous donations, which allowed our school to receive 2 cordless microphones to use in our annual school plays. The annual play is a big deal for our students and their parents, and they look forward to it all year. Last year, we did our own version of High School Musical, and their singing and dancing brought down the house.

In the past, we were reluctant to have the students use a microphone on stage, because we were afraid that in their excitement, they might trip on or get tangled in the cord. Now, students can move around the stage while they say their lines or sing their songs, and we don't have to fear for their safety.

Because we don't start rehearsing for our annual play until the spring, I gathered some of the students in our workshop to practice with their new cordless microphones. They loved it! (And just try to pry it out of their hands before the song is over!) They each took a turn, and simply holding the mic transformed them into stars! Thank you again, for making some of their dreams come true.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. m.

  • Musical Theatre Development

    Funded Aug 22, 2009

We have already used these wireless mics for musical theatre performance! Thank you so much for your generous contributions and your enthusiastic replies after you donated. It is so rewarding to be involved in teaching musical theatre because the students really come alive and are so happy! The mics enable us to project our lead singers so that as they sing and dance they are projected to the last seat in the auditorium. Eventually each student must learn to project without the aid of the microphones, but as they are learning to sing and dance simultaneously, it is important for them to be heard! I am honored to be involved with donors choose and each of you. The impact of your donation will last years beyond today. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Beasley

  • Music Center Time Part 2

    Funded Sep 1, 2009

our keyboards, stands, and music stands have arrived. The children were so excited. Infact, I had the students come and help me carry the eight boxes back to the music room. I introduced the children from Kindergarten to 5th Grade to the keyboards this past week. I showed them how to turn them on, place their hands, their finger numbers, etc. They are eager to learn more.

We will begin playing the recorders in about two weeks and the keyboards will be used in a center for them to continue to develop their piano skills after they have mastered a recorder skill. We will also be able to use the keyboards for instruments we do not have in our classroom such as barred percussion.

Your gift has make it possible for my students to explore and learn the piano and will aid in the application of many other music skills. Thank you all again for choosing to give to this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Maddox

  • Music in the Classroom - Brain Based Curriculum

    Funded Sep 1, 2009

Thank you SO very much for your kind and generous gift that brings music, harmony and love into the classroom. So far, the children and I have learned about Mozart and . Did you know that Mozart was a composer at a very, very young age? Did you know that Beethoven had been signed up to take piano lessons from Mozart himself and then he "up and died?" All of these things and MANY more will become of my students lives because of you!

The music has brought such harmony and peace to my children. I am very excited to be able to expose them to music that they might never get to hear and think about. My kids ask me ALL the time if I would put classical music on for them. I have found that the kids work more determination and accuracy when they are listening to the calming, dulcet tones of the great composers that I have mentioned.

I am forever in your debt! You have made a difference one note at a time. Also, my kids WILL be learning what an amazing inspiration Adam Lambert was, through his music and his words, in the funding of this grant!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Szymanski

  • Power For Our Outstanding Keyboardists!

    Funded Aug 31, 2009

Your donation has allowed us to be fully playing without the hassle of charging the students money for use of the keyboards.  Whereas students had to pay $2.50 for 6 batteries to power-up their keyboards for the first time, they were all able to start playing on the same day as the guitarists, bassists, and drummers in their classes.  It is no longer necessary for them to share instruments either as there are enough operable keyboards to go around without the fire hazard!

We are now going into the third full week of school and classes have been very exciting!  We have been playing the Blues in A as well as Billie Jean by Michael Jackson.  What's outstanding is that we will jam on the Blues in A for example for a full 10 minutes with soloists, drum breaks, and full dynamics all happening whereas the kids have only been playing for one full week!  The beginners are learning/rehearsing the A, D, and E chords while the advanced students are playing the walking bass line in one hand and the chords in the other.

Thanks again for supporting our outstanding musicians!  ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fuller

  • We Are The World, We Are The Children

    Funded Sep 4, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donations! The students LOVE the supplies! First, we learned to dance the Mexican Hat Dance. Then I was able to let 2 of my students dress up in clothes from Mexico. They were adorable! Then I let them use the maracas. These materials are fantastic, and I know that the students really love them! It is helping them to learn other cultures through experience. The students were also excited that there were people in the world who cared enough about them to help buy them supplies for school. This helped to introduce the idea that we are all connected!

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sym
