  • A New Beginning

    Funded Sep 9, 2016

I used the resources to help drive instruction in my classroom. The books and pillows were used to help create a reading center. The students enjoyed having flexible seating during reading block. All other resources helped to facilitate everyday learning within the classroom.

My students were super excited when the resources arrived. The students had lost so much during the flood, so receiving the resources were a much needed glimpse of hope. They eagerly helped me unpack the boxes and organize materials received.

A next step for my students was to get back to regular sense of routine and be in an environment that's conducive to learning.”

  • Brain Gain

    Funded Sep 16, 2016

We are moving ahead at a much faster pace since we have started using the materials received from Donors Choose. The exercise balls and Big Joe beanbags are helping the students to relax, regroup, and de-escalate after stressful academic lessons. It is almost impossible to get a curriculum for this population of students which can be used straight out of the box, so the office supplies are helping us recreate the teacher made activities that are a big part of our curriculum. The pneumatic stools are keeping my assistants and I on eye level with the students for one-to-one instruction and help us move efficiently from one student to another. My assistants love those things. They more comfortable than the previous ones which were destroyed by flood. Every one who enters the classroom is impressed with the stools. The credenza's are making excellent room dividers to keep certain items out of the reach of curious students and they also give my assistants a place to do their paperwork.

My students were smiling when they saw the new materials and could not wait to see what was coming out of every box. They seemed be happy and grateful. My students and I use almost every item daily.

My students choose a recipe to cook every week. One of them suggested gumbo. I thought it was an unreasonable request , since we don't have a full kitchen available to us, but he is now in the hospital so we are working on a way to see if we can make that happen for him.

We are totally satisfied with our Donors Choose items and want to say thank you again to all our donors.”

  • Help Us Get Ready for our Upcoming Basketball Season!

    Funded Sep 21, 2016

My basketball team was truly humbled that our project was fully funded! I am not sure how our basketball season would have been possible without generous donors! You truly gave my basketball team a feeling of normalcy after enduring the life-changing flood most just lived through in our town. The basketballs and rack made our lives much easier and gave us the ability to start practicing right away! We are forever thankful for the donor who made this possible! Thank you again for making this season happen for this deserving team!”

  • Integrating Technology into the Classroom!

    Funded Sep 14, 2016

Thank you so much for funding my project for the students. I was able to bring technology to the classroom with your help. I was able to download apps for the students on the tablet including reading activities, phonics activities, math activities, etc. The students were able to receive exposure to the skills not only from pencil/paper instruction, but through technology. The world is constantly changing and some of the students only receive exposure of technology through the schools.

My students were mostly excited about having technology in general after such a tragic time when everything the school had was lost. The students were even more excited that each student was able to have their own personal tablet to work on. The students were able to sign in to the tablets daily and work on these activities independently.

As stated previously, some students only receive technology exposure while at school. Those students were especially warmed to this new technology. Once the students were taught how to use the tablets and care for them, the became technology specialist. Thank you so much for bringing joy to my classroom after such a tragedy for the school and the students. We can't thank you enough!”

  • A New Classroom Rug for Some Cute Little Kinder-Bugs!

    Funded Oct 13, 2016

We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donations to provide our class with new "sitting spots", pocket charts, and a whiteboard!

We have been able to move around our room and take our carpets with us wherever we go! It has opened our classroom up to more places to play and learn. We have been using our new pocket charts to learn through workstations. We love to sort and build words in the charts with our partners. Since our new white board is portable, we are able to move it around our classroom and we can even take it outside- which has been super fun!

We are very excited to use our new materials even more throughout the new year. I hope you know just how much you have helped us to learn and grow in our kindergarten class!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jennifer

  • Technology Needed After Flood

    Funded Oct 13, 2016

Thank you so much for providing our class with another type of technology. Having an I-pad allows for technology to happen on a more personal level. Prior to receive the I-pad, I as the teacher was the technology user and the experienced it from a whole group prospective as a means to view learning material. Now my students can use the technology of an I-pad on an individual level. They can and have used the I-pad to take AR test at their seat, partnered with another student playing a skill based game after completing a class assignment, researched/looked up unknown words they encountered during reading in literature circles. The I-pad has been a treasured addition to our class room.”

  • Brighten Our World After The Flood With A Color Printer

    Funded Oct 13, 2016

Thank you so much for funding the color printer for our classroom. It was so much fun getting a package delivered to our classroom. Our excitement was through the roof when it came time for us to open the package revealing the contents of the package.

It has made a huge impact being able to print things in color that normally would have been in black and white. The colorful task cards and reading games printed in color add a bit of cheerfulness to our daily learning that other wise would be dull looking.

Also, when we wrote our explorer reports, we were able to print pictures of the explorer we researched in color which was an added touch of brightness to the assignment. Color photos allows you to see more of the details in the picture than black and white photos.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCoy

  • Help Us Be Hands On & Replace Items: Flood

    Funded Sep 15, 2016

Thank YOU! YOU ARE AMAZING! Not only did I start the school year in a new grade but the first week of school our entire school was flooded. I lost everything! I didn't know how I could possibly afford center activities and games. I love letting the children "play" with their friends. They learn the concepts, how to communicate and compromise with others. Plus, they are FUN! The items we received with this project were all of the above plus more!

Right away when the packages came in, we opened them. The rest of the day we spent time exploring, setting up and playing "games." The kids didn't even want to go to recess because they wanted to stay and play. They couldn't believe that people they didn't know would get these things for them. I explained that our donors knew how special and smart they were, that's why they were chosen. Their faces lit up with pride.

Thanks again, we are so thankful for everything you've done for us!”

  • Reading With Our Hands

    Funded Sep 21, 2016

I was so overwhelmed with the support shown to my students and I. Their faces when the boxes started to arrive was priceless. Right away, we stopped what we were doing and would all gather together and open the boxes. It was just like Christmas, even better! They were so impressed with the big books and the activities/games that came with it. The pieces that came with each book gave them a creative way to interact with the story. They would use the puppets to read the story, the toy characters to rein-act the story with their group, the opportunities for creative learning were endless!

I can't thank you enough for the generosity you have showed us! It means so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hymel

  • Tech Tastic!

    Funded Sep 12, 2016

I was so overwhelmed with the support shown to my students and I. Their faces when the boxes started to arrive was priceless. Right away, we stopped what we were doing and would all gather together and open the boxes. It was just like Christmas, even better! When they saw the tablets we received they started jumping up and down, giving each other high fives, it was wonderful! Right away they started talking about the apps they would play and how they could use the tablets to take AR test. I would get phone calls throughout the year from parent's asking what learning app I used on the tablets because their child couldn't stop talking about it.

When I explained to the children that these items were "donated" to us, they couldn't comprehend it. Partly because they didn't know what the word donate meant but once I explained it they still had trouble comprehending that people would want to spend their money on items for them. I told them that our donors knew how smart and special they were and that's why they chose to help our class. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hymel
