  • All We Do Is "Read, Read, Read, No Matter What!"

    Thank you so very much for your generous donations to fund my reading project. The "Wireless Reading Center" has been a big hit this year! Besides using it for my guided reading groups, it is also a great incentive for students to stay on task, complete class assignments neatly, and rewarding good behavior.

    During guided reading, it is used as a model for fluency. Students are able to listen to fluent reading and follow along in their books. This is a big plus for those students who do not have the opportunity to have people read to them at home.

    As an incentive, the wireless listening center has fostered cooperation among classmates when working as a team. This is the most chosen reward when groups compete during classroom competitions.

    My next idea is to use it as a guide for our mini plays. Students will be able to learn their lines faster as well as hear the proper inflection and emphasis used during their parts. Thanks again! ”

  • The Things They Carried

    Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom reading experience. The students have really appreciated and loved this book. If you have not had an opportunity to read this eye-opening account of life during and in the Vietnam War, you must take the time to read it.

    As 'at-risk' students, the children in my classroom carry many things every day. From the child who carries his most prized possession in his backpack to the student who is carrying the weight of homelessness, school and caring for younger brothers and sisters after school; these students are able to relate to the burdens carried by soldiers. Most of them feel as if they are fighting a war as well.

    Your generous contribution to our classroom has enabled countless students to have access to a novel they not only enjoy reading (no small feat) but one that is a great literary contribution to our understanding of the wide world around us.
