It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. Thank you so much for helping my students experience science. My students were about to not just read about, but to build and use all types of simple and compound machines. It was wonderful to see my students use and discuss wedges, screws, levers, wheels and axles, pulleys, and incline planes. Our lessons about focus and mass were clearer and more real to the students because they got to see and using machines to do work affects our lives every day. By the end of the week the students were coming in to class telling me about simple machines they had noticed at home and around the school. They were about to write to explain how these machines work using lots of vocabulary connected to the topic. The students also gained a great deal by using the magnifying glasses and bug containers to examine the structure of plants and animals.
Thank you again for continuing to support the education of our youth by making science come to life. ”
Thank you so much for the great science materials you bought for my class! They especially love the millipedes. Most of my students had only seen them on T.V.! They are very good caretakers and make sure they have food and a clean habitat at all times.
We conducted research the last month of school on animals and they books you bought were very helpful. My students would just read and read and forget they were to be taking notes on their chosen animal!
My class is very thankful and they love Donor's Choose. When strangers send them awesome supplies and books, they feel very loved and cared for. Thank you so much again.”
There aren't words to describe how grateful we are to you! Thank you SO much for your donations. It is late April, and we still have 3 boxes of paper left! Our 2nd grade team has been able to copy worksheets, study packets, and tests with your donation.
Additionally, my students have been able to complete some awesome activities and crafts with the donated paper. We have decorated our room and hallway with our wonderful work.
Without your donations, we would have had a lot of trouble completing the necessary work for 2nd grade. I'm happy to say that this paper will carry us through the rest of the school year, and hopefully even in to next year.
Once again, thank you sincerely for your donations. You've made a difference!”
Thank you so much for your help in funding my project "I Can Touch a Rainbow". The boys and girls are so excited about all of the science materials and kits. I love how they are so interested in Science now! A lot more students are checking out books on light, magnetism, friction, energy and on other science areas.
One of their favorite kits involves magnets. Each week, dozens of children select the Magnet Center to explore. I have even had three teachers check-out the magnet kits to teach individual class lessons on magnets. I know this will be a popular center for years to come!
Another favorite center has been the one with the prisms and lens. I purchased six flashlights and I have let the children go crazy making rainbows! We have rainbows on our library tables, on the walls and on the ceiling.
I appreciate your generous help and support in getting "real" objects for the students to explore. I know they are obtaining a deeper, richer understanding of many scientific concepts. Thank you again for thinking of us!”
Watching science come to life in my classroom has been one of the most wonderful experiences in teaching. This proposal allowed students to get the answers to their questions by using their hands and exploring the world around them. It wasn't in reading a textbook on why things move or the different types of matter. They used their hands to answer what types of matter there are and how they are different. The used their hands to figure out what it is that keeps things moving. In a school where any kid of science materials are scarce they were able to explore the world around them, so I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for that you have done and all that it will continue to do for my scholars.”
Thank you so very much for your generous donation to our classroom. With the science materials donated, we have been able to do so many hands on activities in the areas of language arts, math, science and the arts! My students have really enjoyed using the Jurassic sand to extend their magnets unit and continue to visit the science center regularly to see what else they can do with the moon sand! As you can see in the pictures, many of my friends use the letters to mold and sound out words or phrases and a few kids worked extra hard to write "thank you" with the sand itself.
I am working with parent volunteers and the school to secure a space for both classes in our school garden, where we will use the planting materials donated. Each child will also plant and care for their own seedlings which is REALLY exciting! Not only will we have the opportunity to create and care for a living thing, by inviting the parents to participate, we are also helping to build community in the classroom!
I really cannot thank you enough! With your help, my kids are getting the hands on, real life experiences they are not normally afforded. Thank you for supporting the community and the kids who will help shape our world for years to come!”
Once again, thank you for for generous and heartfelt support. My students have experienced several weeks of engaging and fun experiences with clay. The self-hardening clay provided this opportunity because it does not require a kiln and hours of firing. We achieved the same satisfying results with our clay as did those students fortunate enough to be a part of an school system that possesses kilns. My students worked hard to create strong and colorful coil bowls and portrait pinch pots. We also exhibited them for parent appreciation night. As an educator with limited resources, I am forever grateful for all opportunities to provide meaningful art experiences for my students. Thank you for your donations.”
Thank you again for your generous donations so that my classroom can have calculators! Although they arrived only a few weeks ago, the calculators have already had a big impact on my students.
For example, in Environmental Science, students were able to use them in an experiment in which they performed a fractional distillation of a simulated crude oil. In this lab, students first had to distill the "oil" into three parts; then, they tested various chemical and physical properties of the fractions in order to identify them. One of the physical properties they had to figure out was density; it would have taken them much longer to do this if they had not had the calculators, which I think would have decreased their engagement with the material. In another course I'm teaching, Science and Sustainability, students used the calculators for a lab in which they looked at various species of plankton under the microscope at different magnifications.
I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. Because of you, my students will be able to effectively analyze data in the experiments they do throughout the semester, which I know will help them get much more out of the class than if they did not have these calculators.”
Thank you so much for your generous donations that allowed us to have three dissecting microscopes in our classroom! We have already used them for a fun project to look at insect eyes and to compare the crystal structure of different rocks.
Later this year we will be observing embryo development of frogs and zebra fish. These microscopes will allow the students to see the many stages of development in the eggs. We will also be dissecting flowers under the scopes so students can see the developing seeds and other parts of the plant's reproductive system close up.
These microscopes will not only enhance student's understanding of Biology concepts this year, but for many years to come.”
I can't begin to express the gratitude I feel for your participation towards our art integration. The drying rack has already been used several times in the classroom and since it hangs over the door it does not take away any space from the students. It has been wonderful to integrate art projects into our themes. The students are really enjoying the creativity that art allows them to express in displaying their newly acquired knowledge.
Your donations have allowed us to purchase a useful piece of equipment that was much needed in our classroom. Our classroom budget does not allow for these types of purchases and our class is so appreciative to have a drying rack.
Thank you for making this experience possible for our students!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Southard
