I'm not really a birthday person but, since there are some people (*ahem*Mom) who insist on getting me something for my birthday, this seemed like a option to give. I know a lot of you wouldn't be getting me something for my birthday, may not know when it is, or may not even like me. I'm not really a birthday person but, since there are some people (*ahem*Mom) who insist on getting me something for my birthday, this seemed like a option to give. I know a lot of you wouldn't be getting me something for my birthday, may not know when it is, or may not even like me. Please don't feel obligated to give because it's my birthday but if you have a few extra bucks (or think you can forgo that last drink one Friday night) please consider sending that money the way of some creative and dedicated teachers here in Chicago. I chose projects that are a little outside of the usual reading and math requests. The focus on standardized tests in Chicago has stripped the curriculum in many schools down to basic reading and math taught out of textbooks. These teachers are trying to fill in the gaps, teaching reading and math in ways that relate to the students' worlds and encourage the students to explore, question and participate in those worlds. hide
