I cannot thank you for the donation of supplies to my fourth grade classroom during the 2010-2011 school year. My students were not only able to work within small learning groups but learn through hands on material.
My students enjoyed working with the science labs the best. They were able to do an experiment and then follow-up with a lab report. When they weren't working on the science labs they were busy doing the social studies centers. With the social studies centers, they were able to play games and research on the Internet.
These resources you have given to my classroom, will be used for years to come!”
I cannot express how thankful I am for the supplies that were donated to my classroom. My students absolutely love everything that was given to them. I did not realize how much they would enjoy using the "Real-World Math Problem Solving Kits." They are always asking if they can play "Restuarant Math" which is included within the kit. My students take each others orders, add them up and even bring out fake food. It's cute to watch them do math, and not complain about how many problems they have to do.
The resources that you have given to my classroom, will last longer this school year! They will be used to years to come. A good thing about the resources is that it really helps with differentiated instruction. So not only I am able to give my students basic skills practice, but I am also able to give some of my students a challenge.
Thank you so for allowing my students to become involve with the environment. I started this school year not having any science supplies, so getting this kit was AMAZING. The students were able to go out into their community around the school and test the acidity level of the dirt. They were even able to test the acidity level in the water. They were very excited to hatch the brine shrimp, that came in the kit and watch them the grow. It was definitely an exciting time.
It was the student's idea to take the experiment one step further and to plant flowers in the a outside foyer in the school. They did a great job! We even went out on earth day, and collect trash in a 1/2 mile radius around the school. It was a lot of fun, for them.
Thanks again for caring enough to donate to my classroom.”
With gratitude,
Ms. McCoy
This classroom project was brought to life by Disney's Planet Challenge and 5 other donors.
I still cannot thank you enough for the donations to my classroom. I cannot tell you, how hard it is being an inner city teacher with limited resources. From the day the materials arrived to my school, I have been using them. The test-prep workbooks, along with the overheard timer are great additions to my classroom. I am also able to put my students into centers as they work with the test prep rings. I've tried to take the stigma out of the words "Test Prep" by titling the first hour of each class as "Rise Above". I thought "Rise Above" fits the challenges of their everyday lives, along with rising above the mark for proficient on the test.
I am sure you've heard that the governor of NJ is planning on cutting budgets in our school systems which will make it even harder to get the resources that I need in my classroom. Your donations to my classroom will be used beyond this one year. If for some reason I am changed classrooms this upcoming year, I will be sure that the materials are given the next fifth grade math teacher to use in his or her classroom.
Thank you for giving me a chance to get my students to get on grade level.”
With gratitude,
Ms. McCoy
