Your donation of materials for our classroom is GREATLY appreciated. My students were amazed that someone outside of our school district was actually concerned about them enough to take action. There have been so many budget cuts, and even more cuts have taken place since I first wrote to DonorsChoose.Org this past fall. In fact, our school has just run out of paper for the 09-10 school year!
The students truly were in awe when I showed them the Time For Kids magazines. What amazed them even more was when I told them that this magazine was a consumable and that we would be receiving them every one or two weeks, AND that they would get to take these magazines home to continue reading. The students literally stared at me in disbelief!
With the magazines, we have been able to not only work on literacy skills concerning nonfiction text, but we have also been able to have in depth conversations that foster critical thinking skills. Just this week we looked at the elephants from Asia and Africa and discussed how their tusks were being used by poachers.
I so appreciate your concern and actions to help our students. I thank you for your thoughtful contributions.”
I just want to say thank you again and again for your kind donation. I do know that the Thank You package is late, and I hope that you saw my note about those unavoidable circumstances. I do apologize for the delay. I am the one at fault here, not the students. Please forgive my tardiness and accept my deepest apology. Once again, I sincerely apologize for the late thank you package.
My students and I face budget shortfalls each and every day. I am lucky to have half of a class that is "gifted." These students do not always receive the resources that the ones in jeopardy of failing receive on a daily basis. My students and I appreciate the opportunity to see resources and soar with them. These books allowed more of my students to participate in a county reading competition that encourages worldly readers. Without your help, some of those students would not have had the opportunity to read the books, therefore knocking them out of the competition. They and I greatly appreciate your help in participating. Even though our students did not win the competition, they gained knowledge and experience facing peers that they do not interact with on a daily basis.
The books were also used to help other students challenge themselves. Even though they may not be labeled "gifted," those students deserve just as much a chance to exceed and challenge themselves on a daily basis. With these higher level resources available, students of all different backgrounds found something to connect them to a book that helped improve them as a reader. All in all, every student was able to find themselves caught in a whirlwind of knowledge. We appreciate your help in allowing us to continue our journey as readers, writers, thinkers, and competitors. Your books will be used for years to come to extend students on this wonderful journey to find ourselves as readers.”
This project made a tremendous impact on my students. They were excited about creating something they could call their own. As a team they learned to work cooperatively. Their oral communication improved as they read and discussed what they learned about their specific animal. They created a storyboard and shared this with the other groups. The groups made suggested recommendations to improve on the other groups storyboards. I also made some recommendations to each group. They enjoyed working with the cameras, tripods and Legos animals in creating their stop action motions. Using the software Frames 4, the students transferred their photographs and created their Legos animal animation. Each group added a title, recorded their information and music to their animation. They used a Animation Rubric to score their project. They made a Quicktime movie and presented it to their peers and parents. Finally, each student burned a hardcopy as a keepsake.
Thanks to your generous donation to Donors Choose, this project became possible for my students. I know the children will remember this activity more than a pencil and paper activity.
Thank you so much for the wonderful contribution of books for my gifted and talented students. We have already explored many of the chapters in the book. These books are helping students to realize that there are other students all over this country that look and feel the way they do about academics, and social/emotional situations. More importantly, there are strategies in the book that help students with problem - solving and day to day coping skills. We will be forever grateful and indebted to you for your gift.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Garrett
This classroom project was brought to life by Rugby Ralph Lauren and 7 other donors.
I cannot truly express my gratitude to all of you for donating to our project. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. My students have learned a valuable lesson about the kindness of others. They are all in awe that complete strangers gave to our project out of the kindness of their hearts. This experience will be something that they will remember forever.
My students and I have already taken quite a number of pictures with our new digital camera. The students learned how to use the camera very quickly and are really enjoying being able to take pictures. We are excited to be able to share some of our pictures with you. The camera will be something that we can use throughout the school year to record our memories.
Thank you again for your generosity. It means a lot to my students and myself.

With gratitude,
Mrs. Hardwick
