Over the next month, I will be participating in Mustaches for Kids, a volunteer-run organization started in Los Angeles in 1999 to do good and have fun by growing Mustaches for children’s charities. • Technology: Visual and Media Literacy!

    Funded Feb 25, 2010

I can't thank you enough for your generous contributions! My classroom is sorely lacking in technology. Our school has grown from a K-5 to a K-8 with extremely little funding for the transition, and the school is struggling to keep up with technology as well as provide access to all students in one computer lab. My classes share the lab with the entire 4-8th grades in the school. With your generosity, my students will now have easy access to a laptop in the classroom, and we can utilize it for visual presentations, individual work on our zines, internet research, and a million other things!

My students will greatly benefit from the netbook in the classroom. I love to see students excited about learning, and your contributions are making that happen!! My students' lives are going to improve by becoming better at creating and giving visual presentations, learning about research skills and finding valid information, and just generally becoming more comfortable with the technology they will eventually use in the workforce. You have given my students a great gift, and I am extremely grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gray

  • Art Gives Hope

    Funded Feb 17, 2010

Your generous gift made it possible for my students to work through the healing process. Earlier this year we had a fire at our school and have since moved to a building across town. Student have to take a 20 -30 minute bus ride instead of walking to school with their parents.

Bringing art to my students has helped them find joyful ways to express their feelings. As you can see by the smiles on their faces the students appreciate your generosity.

Thank you so much for sending a message of hope to my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dickinson

  • Oregon Literature

    Funded Feb 3, 2010

It was like Christmas when I opened my box of books. I was so eager to begin to read the literature on The Oregon Trail. The new updated books for my classroom have really helped my students to become engaged in the social studies unit on Oregon.

The enthusiasm the students show as they use the books is so much fun. They are truly shocked that there did not use to be electricity. Some of my students have said they can't believe the kids on The Trail did not have video games. The vibrant and colorful pictures really help to bring history to life for the kids, especially those who are English Language Learners.

Once again, thank you so much for using some of your resources to help a school in Oregon. I look forward to teaching The Oregon Trail unit again and again using the beautiful books I have received from your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tammen-Jensen

  • We'll Make A Film About A Man That's Sad And Lonely

    Funded Feb 27, 2010

    Movies, movies, movies!

Since posting this project I discovered some great curriculum on Media Literacy and how students need to be well versed in reading the messages they encounter everyday. One of the best ways to make students critical readers is to make them creative writers; the same is true with their understanding of media. To help students know how to read the advertisements they encounter every day they need to make some of their own.

We've been working on creating magazine ads and now are ready to start making our own commercials and then eventually will be making our own short films. This camera has inspired and steered my class toward curriculum that I originally hadn't anticipated. Thank you for the donation and the inspiration!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Fox

  • Inspiring the Scientific Mind

    Funded Feb 8, 2010

Wow! I can't fully express the gratitude, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my students. Yeah! It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching out to our young scientists and inventors of the future.

The tools that you have funded will enable students to explore various areas of science. In addition, I will be able to fully demonstrate experiments, and allow my students to explore science through inquiry. We're off to one of our three field study trips this month! Students will be studying a local watershed's ecosystem and water quality. They will also participate in a community service activity at each visit. I can't believe the supplies will arrive in time for our first adventure!

Thank you so much. I can't wait to share this good news with my students tomorrow morning! ”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
