It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. Thanks again for your contribution to my classroom. The Playstation has and will continue to be used to engage kids in music through dance and games. There are some kids who are already dancing at an 'expert' level!
As you know the down economy has affected school funding dramatically, and we've been making cuts for the past few years. This will help insure that students will at least get the same level of music education as they've enjoyed in the past. Your support has made a difference!”
My students loved learning about Mexican art history by learning about Diego Rivera. His paintings tell the story of ancient Mexico and allowed them to explore their heritage in a vocabulary rich and creative way. We started by learning about Diego as a person and then moved on to study his murals. We have a few murals nearby to look at so we looked at those. Since Diego painted the history of the indigenous we decided to paint a mural about Cesar Chavez. He fought for farm worker rights and helped the immigrant farm workers by making sure they didn't eat too many pesticides. Many of our children's parents work in the fields picking fruit so it made sense to paint him as an example of their history.
As a class they brainstormed the things they wanted to add to their mural and drew it together. Afterward we cut it up like a puzzle so they could each paint a piece. It ended up looking amazing and was a great way to show their knowledge and comprehension of the two different subjects!
You all are so generous and caring to donate to this project. The children were delighted and showed off their mural at our school's annual Art Night celebration. I will continue to teach this unit for many years to come.”
It was like Christmas when I opened my box of books. I was so eager to begin to read the literature on The Oregon Trail. The new updated books for my classroom have really helped my students to become engaged in the social studies unit on Oregon.
The enthusiasm the students show as they use the books is so much fun. They are truly shocked that there did not use to be electricity. Some of my students have said they can't believe the kids on The Trail did not have video games. The vibrant and colorful pictures really help to bring history to life for the kids, especially those who are English Language Learners.
Once again, thank you so much for using some of your resources to help a school in Oregon. I look forward to teaching The Oregon Trail unit again and again using the beautiful books I have received from your donations.”
My 7th graders have never been so excited about reading. The books that you purchased for our class have truly caused a stir. Advanced readers, struggling readers, and everyone in between have found books that they can't stop reading. All around the school, there is a buzz about these books-- some of my students have even convinced other teachers to read these novels.
It has made such a difference to the kids to know that these books were all purchased especially for them because they are such compelling, absorbing stories. They know that these are some of the best books out there, and are touched that people who don't even know them would help purchase these books for our school.
Your generous support will continue to inspire kids for years to come. I can't wait to get these books in the hands of my future students and watch them light up like my students are today. Thank you so much on behalf of myself and my students!”
What an awe inspiring addition to the classroom. The Orff instruments arrived last Thursday and there was an immediate buzz from the students. When I opened one of the instruments the class could not believe what the box contained. They keep asking me if the instruments are for them to use and when I say yes, then they ask me again if the instruments are for them.
I hope from the pictures that you can see that they are a great group of kids. They were so afraid to use the instruments and they were shocked when the pretty notes were heard. Other teachers in the hallway stopped by to see where the beautiful music was coming from. I am so eager to incorporate the instruments into our daily lessons and watch my students move to music what they need in long term memory.”
With gratitude,
Teacher
