  • Print Me a Picture!!!

    Funded Jan 15, 2010

Thank you so much for your donations to my classroom and to my students. My art curriculum is valuable and engages my students. We study the elements of art and to do this successfully, need materials that I just can't afford with my $100 annual budget.

Your generosity and honest giving to others brings smiles to faces, excitement to teachers, and advancement of valuable art learning and making.

With these materials, we will be printing all spring long! I can't wait to see what my students will make with the block prints and the presses!

Thank you again for your willingness to give to students like mine. ”

  • Experiencing the Culture of Chicago

    Funded Feb 28, 2010

It's impossible to express how much your donation has meant to myself and my students. As soon as I found out that this project had been funded, I felt as though a huge burden had been lifted - I knew that any kid who wanted to go on the trip would be able to, no matter what their financial situation. From there it was just a matter of letting parents know that we could help them. Soon we had our bus full of students, teachers and chaperones, and we were ready to go!

The trip to Chicago was unbelievable. We stopped half way there to take a ride on the Dell's Ducks, to tour the area of Wisconsin Dells on an amphibious vehicle and get a lesson on the area's history and natural history. We stopped in the Dells again on the way home and played mini-golf, which was a great finale to the trip.

While we were in Chicago we were so busy, filling the days with visits to the House of Blues, Lincoln Park Zoo, Millenium Park, the Magnificent Mile, Adler Planetarium, Navy Pier, Chinatown, and the Willis Tower. We ate at famous Chicago landmarks like Giordano's Pizza and Portillos Hot Dogs, and the Rock and Roll McDonalds. We took an architectural boat tour and a Haunted Chicago bus tour.

That list of places makes it seem like the trip was a whirlwind, and actually, it was! But we were able to spend time learning about many things that makes Chicago the amazing place that it is, and the kids were really engaged the entire time.

The best part of the trip for me was knowing that for the majority of the students, this was something that they could not have done on their own. Everyone was so well behaved, so focused on absorbing the culture and having the best experience that they could. It was such a great finale to a wonderful year, and I thank you so much for your part in making it possible!”

  • Wow For Wood!

    Funded Jan 29, 2010

Thank you very much for providing my students

with the opportunity to work with Wood materials. As you can see in the

pictures, my fourth graders had a blast creating an Architectural project

inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. They could not get enough of building and

creating with such a fun material. I am looking forward to starting more

projects with the rest of my students. The most wonderful thing about your

generous donation is that my students now have the opportunity to be extremely

creative as well as build their fine motor skills with three-dimensional

materials. I cannot thank you enough

because with the limited resources, space, and time I have, it can be difficult

to find projects and materials that the all students "love" and look forward to

doing. I definitely plan on using these wood materials next year...if I have any

    left! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bate

  • Beat Drums not Each Other

    Funded Dec 4, 2009

I want you know how grateful I am for your generous contribution to sustain music education at our school. The implementation of the program has been tremendous. In strengthening student understanding of music and its relationship with the spoken word, we have integrated the instruments in cultural appreciation, accompanying student creative writing, and measures to be creative as a meditative retreat. The impact has been worthwhile.

Having worked in this school for a few years, I have seen the general progression to include musical education in our classrooms. As a community charter school, our resources are nearly 50% of the average classroom in our geographic region. Because of these short comings, we often have to prioritize spending to pay for basic materials. The students come attend the school with challenges, but the school should not be challenged in meeting their interests, academic needs, and diversity of instruction.

We appreciate your impact in providing an enriching environment for our students.”

  • Comics In The Classroom

    Funded Nov 25, 2009

ME AND MY STUDENTS WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENOROSITY. I TEACH IN AN INNER CITY SCHOOL THAT ISIN A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT IS PLAGUED WITH VIOLENCE AND TURMOIL. MY STUDENTS ARE VERY BRIGHT AND INTELLIGENT, THROUGH YOUR GIFT TO MY SCHOOL IT WILL HELP TO EXPOSE KIDS TO GRAPHIC ARTS PROGRAMS THAT THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE. AS AN ART TEACHER WITH A LIMITED BUDGET YOUR DONATION HAS ENRICHED THE LIVES OF KIDS THAT BY ALL ACCOUNTS AND STATISTICS DON'T MATTER. YOUR GIFT IS AN AFFIRMATION THAT THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO CARE ABOUT THE NEXT GENERATION COMING UP BEHIND THEM.”

  • Can I "Please" Borrow A Guitar?!

    Funded Jan 15, 2010

The guitar was beautiful! It had great quality strings and an electronic tuner built into the side. This is a very useful component for students who are learning to play guitar. The case is heavy duty with room for books and other equipment. I wish you could have seen their faces as I pulled out the new guitar and told my students that some strangers bought it for them. They could not believe that it was donated to the guitar program! They all wanted to know who the donors were, how they found out about the program and why someone would do that for them! It took me a while to explain.

My first goal was to get the guitar into the hands of a student who did not have one at home. There are three or four students who will be sharing the guitar on a rotating basis. They really appreciate the chance to practice at home on a brand new instrument.

Most of the students I enroll in the class already own guitars. I always feel bad turning students away because they don't own one. This year I tried something new, I let a few students enroll without guitars. These students have shown genuine interest and are willing to spend time after school practicing on the classroom guitars. Your generosity means so much to me and has shown my students that many people care about their educational opportunities. You are making it possible for the next generation to fall in love with music.”
