Digital Imaging- Bring Paper Graphs To Life!
Funded Apr 4, 2011I am so honored at the commitment to education you have shown to our school and specifically to the math education of our students! Your generosity is so appreciated and so needed. With your help, I will be able to build our classroom set (and math department set) of calculators that will help students better understand and explore graphing. It takes time, patience, and lots of precision for students to create graphs on paper. This can be very challenging and frustrating for students. With your help, these calculators will show students what the graphs of the different functions look like, they will be able to see the correctness of their graphs, find errors with more immediacy than if they wait for me to check them all one by one. The most exciting part is that I will be able to help students see how changes in the function equations create very visible numerical changes in their graphs and students will see these instantly with the aid of the calculators! These calculators will make learning this topic easier and faster for students, as they will be able to see the shape of any standard equation and then make small changes and instantly see the impact on its graph! In addition, it will help keep the students more engaged because they will be using technology to learn difficult math concepts!
I look forward to introducing these new calculators to the students and showing them the various graphing features. I truly believe it will make a huge difference in how they perceive graphs and graphing in general. Additionally, I am excited to share these calculators and these instructional ideas with my colleagues.
