Jerry Kenna's Mustache for Kids!

Part of: Ariba Growers
  • $170raised
  • 4projects funded
  • 4schools served
  • 4teachers supported
After sporting a goatee for a decade (that's right, 10 YEARS!), I've decided to shave it off and spend my February growing a mustache! Please help by donating to the school project of your choice! These school projects are for LOCAL kids. I've hand picked these projects because they are from schools in our area. You don't have to worry about where this money is going, it's going to local kids! And don't forget... with great mustache, comes great responsibility...

    Funded Feb 11, 2010

I would like to thank you for the tremendous contribution you have made to my current and future students. You enable us to engage in a daily routine where groups of students rotate to the listening center, then respond to the literature after listening / reading the book at the center. All of my students look forward to this routine, and inquire about it every morning to ensure they will get their listening center time. They have remained engaged in this routine through the year, and have gained exposure to a wide variety of literature.

I am extremely thankful for your kindness, and your support for inner-city public school classrooms like mine.”

  • All Aboard the Autism Express!

    Funded Feb 16, 2010

Thank you so much for your generosity. My children absolutely love the train table and set! It is so wonderful to see just how much the train set brings about a unified community and spirit in my classroom despite the many diverse needs. On any given day, at any given time, you will see children playing together with the trains..........verbal children, nonverbal children, boys, girls, kindergarten students through third grade children, children with autism, children with anxiety issues, students with behavioral needs, and staff that would just like to participate in child's play!

We utilize the train table to build rapport with our children through play. We also are able to use the train as a motivator for task completion and / or as a reward for exhibiting appropriate behaviors. The higher level problem solving skills coupled with a fun filled activity makes for the perfect addition to any school environment!

Thank you so much for bringing about such a wonderful sense of community to our classroom through your generous donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Igims

  • Louder Than Words

    Funded Feb 23, 2010

Thank you so much for all of your generosity. These books have made such a huge impact on the school community. We were able to distribute the books to each staff member from administrators, teachers, secretarial staff, custodians, and even cafeteria employees! The information and real world account described in the book was able to increase knowledge and provide an understanding of just how much the parents we serve with children on the autism spectrum go through each and every day. Hopefully, the knowledge staff was able to gain will lesson the daily struggle many of our parents go through to advocate for their child!

My parents were so appreciative of the generosity of so many people through donors choose. Many of my parents felt that the story they were reading was parallel in so many ways to theirs. If we could bring about increased compassion and understanding in one person.....and they could help bring about change in another.....and them for another.......what a greater world we'd be !

I am so appreciative. My staff is appreciative. My parents are appreciative.

My students thank you from the bottom of their hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Igims

  • 2nd graders seeing, hearing, and engaging with the content

    Funded Feb 26, 2010

Thank you so much for contribution to the LCD projector for my classroom. It has become an indispensable resource in my classroom- one which is hard to remember being without. It has become quite effortless to enhance my students comprehension of the content by showing them a video. The word "cassette," a vocabulary word is much easier to explain with a visual- something that I can now show them with just a few clicks on my laptop.

My students' favorite activity that we have used the projector for was watching the movie March of the Penguins. I showed it to them to accompany a story in their reading books about emperor penguins. Time limited us from watching the entire documentary but they haven't stopped talking about what they learned about the penguins. They laughed watching penguins slide on their bellies and sat perfectly quiet still in anticipation of the first chicks hatching. They were fascinated.

Teaching an inclusion class can be challenging. The students with learning disabilities are easily grouped by people outside of the classroom as "not capable" of understanding the content. Having this resource has had a great impact on the level of engagement in the classroom, especially with the special education students. Showing them the content is as simple as powering up the projector. It has made the content so much more accessible for all of my students.

In a time where there seems to be so much economic uncertainty, I am so grateful for people like you who are there to answer a call for assistance for some very deserving young people.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stinchcomb

  • Boy in the Striped Pajamas / Three Cups of Tea

    Funded Feb 9, 2010

Thank you so much donating to this project. Over 70 students have used the materials that were provided for my second semester class. The students focused on different regions and cultures around the world with an underlying theme of comparing their lives to those of teenagers around the world. Every unit we also did an activity that was focused on the importance of story telling in the different cultures.

Over the past two years the class has tripled in size and next year is going to be even larger. The classes have really enjoyed the books and have been extremely thankful that you have put their education and success first.

    Again thank you!

  • Hep Me Show Them The Great Outdoors

    Funded Feb 8, 2010

We would like to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. Allowing us to obtain the projector has opened us up to a whole new way of learning.

First of all as you can see, by the expressions of my students' faces, we were thrilled. If you look at the pictures you will see the projector in the background and over the students' faces. They had just seen a projected video of a car driving through a giant redwood tree. Wow, they were in awe!

Since this time we have seen many parks, weather phenomena and even counted sheep. I and my students are so grateful that this was made possible by you and donors choose. Thank you, thank you, thank you and I will never forget this generosity as you are my first donors. You never forget your first love....”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stevens
