It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck.
I am so excited and overwhelmed by your generous contributions. My students and I are garnering a wealth of information, practice and fun from working with the resources that your generosity has afforded us. Thank you simply does not cover our gratitude.
These concrete manipulatives have given my students a broader picture of the concepts that were being taught in the classroom. They have also helped to link the visual, the tactile and the auditory which are the three modalities through which young children learn.
The "icing on the cake" of this set of manipulatives was, when one of my students read one of the math related reading books and came to me and said - :Ms. Walker this book is all about skip counting". It brought a smile to my face for two reasons; he was reading and he was reading with comprehension.
These resources will touch the lives of more than just the 17 students currently in my class. They will be utilized by all my colleagues. Thank you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Walker

This year, I was moved to third grade. I had no idea how different it would be from Kindergarten! I noticed a need for dictionaries right away. Students were always asking me how to spell words, or what something meant. I decided we needed some dictionaries to help!
I told my students about this project and they became excited immediately. They would ask often if we had enough money or if they had arrived yet. The day they came, we walked up to the office and each student carried a dictionary back to the classroom.
After just three weeks with new dictionaries, my students are more independent with their spelling. When they have a question about a word, they go get a dictionary off the shelf and try to find the word on their own before asking me for help.
Dictionary skills are very important for all students to learn. Thank you for allowing my class and classes in the future to have this opportunity.”
I can't even begin to tell you how excited my students were when I began unpacking and assembling the new learning centers and the sorting alphabet tubs! My students would ask every day if we were going to use a new center!
The alphabet tubs (and rack) that you donated have helped my students who continue to struggle with letter sounds and beginning sounds. My students think the miniatures in each tub are very neat - they try to peak in the tubs before I open them! I can't wait to use the sorting tubs next year as we introduce each letter and sound as well!
The learning centers are amazing! My students have used them individually and in small groups. They are great to introduce a concept, as well as review previous skills.
Our school is facing a large budget deficit this year, as well as upcoming years. Every department and budget is being cut. Without your donation, I know we would not have had the ability to order these materials. For Kindergarten children, it is critical for them to master these basic literacy skills and build upon them.
Again, without your support of time and money, my classroom would have gone without. Saying "Thank You" just doesn't seem like enough!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Elmore

++I am so happy that in spite of everything happening in our country and in your personal lives you were still able to contribute to this project. +
++
+Your kindness and generosity has provided a means by which my students can maximize their potential and aspire to be the best that they can be. Literacy is such an important component in their lives and once this is achieved most things will fall into place. +
++
+We thank you so much for the joys that your contributions have brought us. My students are enjoying their books and their mini library. They read every chance they get and like reading to each other and talking about books. I am moved to tears everytime I see them reach for a book and start reading. Thank you so much for being a supporter of literacy. We appreciate you .++”
With gratitude,
Mrs. DeCambre
