  • The Future of Our Contry: From Monolingual to Bilingual

    Funded Sep 14, 2010

I would like to thank you all for helping our bilingual students succeed in reading. It is very difficult to find Spanish books for our students, which does not give them the proper resources to strive in reading. The books donated allowed us to create fun and creative lessons and activities to teach them new strategies for reading and for all content areas. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic community and funding is limited. Your donations have had a huge impact in our classrooms and have allowed our students to have the same resources as the other monolingual classrooms.

Words can not express how much of a difference you all have made to our students!!! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Walker

  • Mad for the Middle Ages

    Funded Aug 30, 2010

Thank you all, so very much, for your generous contributions to our classroom. We received our materials a bit late, so we are still working on finishing the book, Crispin by Avi.

My students are thoroughly enjoying delving into the world of medieval Europe. We are exploring the structure of feudal society and the individual's place within that society. My 5th graders are particularly interested in the lack of mobility people had at the time, particularly between social classes.

A side benefit I had not anticipated when initially requesting this funding, has been that our discussions of early colonial, American society have been very rich. This year, my students have a much better understanding of the rigid structure the "peasant" classes were escaping and why the "gentlemen" who left England for the New World were woefully unprepared to be laborers and farmers. It has been the experience of reading Crispin that has given them a more complete understanding of both European and American history.

On behalf of my students...thank you, thank you, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson

  • Math, Writing, and Art!

    Funded Oct 21, 2010

We received our art books and the students went crazy. Okay, so did the teacher. I can't express how important hands on activities, student created problems, and imagination are to developing life long math skills.

Our students today are digital learners and that's a great, but children still need to be given the tools and support to express what they see and how they see it! As an adult, math is pencil to paper, computer, and mental math. As a child, math is about discovering numbers, riddles, and puzzles in our everyday life. Our everyday life is colorful, hands on, and filled with personal perspective.

Thank you for providing my crazy and wonderful students with the tools needed to be a life long learner and kid during the process.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Obst

  • Have Rockets...Will Travel!

    Funded Oct 8, 2010

My sincere thanks and gratitude for your donation. With the materials that you have provided, my class of future engineers have taken the engineering process to the application stage. My engineers have gone from the designing stage of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to applying their designs to actual rockets.

It is a great joy to hear a student say,"What if we...", and then see them take their own curiosity and create it. It is my hope that my students will pursue their curiosity of science and math at the university level. All it takes is a gift of simple materials to plant a seed for success.

Once more, thank you for your investment in our student's future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jimenez

These supplies are essential to learning by providing the opportunity for students to not only hear and see what is been taught but to engage their minds in applying what have been taught by making authentic work to take home and display. These supplies has helped students to be more successful in reaching their destiny in first grade. This project have allowed them to learn in more creative ways by applying what they are learning with hands-on activities across all subjects. The students have made collages, dioramas, foldables, flash cards, games in

This project was the key to students success in school. Students do not determine there destination in life but the experiences they encounter throughout life helps to guide their pathway. You have helped to plant many seeds that will develop into beautiful flowers. ”

  • Back to the Basics: Supplies

    Funded Oct 27, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my class. The supplies that you donated are awesome. My students were so excited and could not wait to use the materials. As part of their six weeks grade, the students are required to create a a hands-on project related to the information that they learned during the six weeks. This gives the students another way to demonstrate what they've learned in their most creative ways. Thank you again for your commitment and dedication to the children of our future.”

  • Greek Geeks - A Reading Quest

    Funded Sep 27, 2010

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS! Your generosity to our classroom has positively impacted my students in many ways. After experiencing the feeling of receiving an extremely generous gift, my students have begun looking for ways to help those in need at our school and in their community.

Reading this set of books opened them up to a world filled with rich text and hundreds of other books. Many students became "experts" of the gods and demi-gods found throughout Greek and Roman mythology. They would compare their research since many stories vary and try to debate which one was right. For me, the best part of the whole project was that my goal was reached. Getting students to read more is every teachers goal and with the sets of books you provided us with, my students have not just read them, but continued on with the series to completion. Many of them had never read an entire series and were so proud of themselves. Their self-esteem boost is all thanks to your gracious gift. Thanks again for providing us with such wonderful resources and we hope that you continue to support classrooms so that even more students lives may be enriched.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez-Zamora

  • Exciting and Engaging Classroom Library

    Funded Nov 6, 2010

I would like to express my gratitude to all of you for your generous donations to my classroom library. Ever since the new novels have arrived, they have been well-used by my students. The book sets purchased through this donation are popular titles for kids their age. Once a student finishes a book, the others scramble to be the next one to read it. With testing season approaching quickly, I know their increased time spent reading long texts will help build their stamina to be successful.

With the economy in the state that it is, I know it is more difficult to be generous. I applaud your dedication to public school children. Without your help, my students would never have had the opportunity to fall in love with the variety of books that they now have instant access to.

Thank you for helping to inspire in my students an appetite for reading and an appreciation for literature that they can foster the rest of their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McElroy

  • The Joys of Outdoor Toys!

    Funded Sep 4, 2010

Thank you so much for making it possible for my students to receive these outdoor toys! They love to be able to go outside and use the tricycles, balls, jump ropes, etc. instead of only swinging and sliding. Our staff members have also seen great improvement in the students social skills, such as sharing, and gross motor awareness. They love to teach each other how to use the tricycles or teach their friends the rules of ball games like soccer or basketball. We have also seen them make up new games using the toys, which shows an increase their creativity as well as their oral language skills. It is amazing how much development can come out of a few simple items. Thank you so very much for helping my students grow and learn in so many ways!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lashley

  • Exemplary Language Experience

    Funded Aug 9, 2010

Perhaps the one thing for which I am most grateful is that my students genuinely felt supported and cared for by others outside of the school setting. Upon receiving our supplies, they enthusiastically asked about who had provided the materials. I could tell that many weren't used to the idea people would give to others they did not know and perhaps would never get to meet. I believe this has made them value and care for our learning centers and vocabulary cards much more than they would have otherwise.

My students' favorite activity so far has been using the homophone, idiom, and multiple meaning cards as a daily review. The cards are colorful, fun, and easy to post in the classroom. This daily review has been crucial to having the kiddos master these terms and to begin identifying and using them not only in their regular school day, but at home as well.

Our vocabulary learning centers were first used in class on days when middle school students would come in to tutor and work with the children. The format is structured and the directions are easy to follow. Most importantly, it fosters cooperativeness and encourages them to take risks with their vocabulary choices in a non-threatening manner. They are not at all intimidated by the task at hand because they view it as a game instead of a chore.

The students I service are now much more willing to incorporate more sophisticated language in their writing and are also more apt to apply knowledge of root words, prefixes, and suffixes to unfamiliar words. This has in turn led to many more of them choosing reading material that they normally would not have tried, such as more complex chapter books and non-fiction selections.

I am extremely thankful for all the support. Be assured that your contribution has made an impact.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Velasquez
