Jason Maxham's Mustache

Part of: Chicago Growers
  • $230raised
  • 3projects funded
  • 3schools served
  • 3teachers supported
It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. (By the way, DonorsChoose.org is a 501(c)3 charity. See below for ... more

In my case, the initial challenge will be to shave for the 1st time in 3 years. I'm wondering if my kids will still recognize me. hide
  • Magic Felt Board

    Funded Nov 16, 2009

Thank you for your kind donation to my classroom. The felt/magnetic board has seen many hours of use so far this year. The children love reading the stories and acting them out. They love using the magnetic side of the board also. They test each other with their spelling words.

As you know Chicago Public Schools is going through a budget shortfall, so without your help this project could not have been possible. Thanks again for your kind donation to my classroom.

Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stillwell

  • New Technology For The Science Classroom

    Funded Nov 16, 2009

I want to personally thank you for helping my classroom gain a new laptop. With this laptop we can now access the Internet as a class, use Powerpoint to go over notes, research information for projects and papers, and utilize all of the bells and whistles the laptop has.

We are currently searching for ways to use the iChat function on the laptop. This will allow our classroom to connect with other classrooms around the world. I personally am excited about this because many of my students never get outside of their neighborhood, much less the city. The laptop also has a camera on it so we can take pictures of labs and activities. We are then going to publish these pictures on a website early next year.

The learning experience of all my students is greatly improved with this laptop. It now makes so many things possible and our learning is much more exciting. Again, I want to thank you for all you have given us and the new doors you have opened for my students. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Flach

  • Won't you be, my LCD?

    Funded Nov 19, 2009

Seeing this project get funded has been one of the great joys of our school year. Your generosity is so inspiring to all of us here. My colleagues are thrilled: another LCD projector means more flexibility in our planning and more technology in the classroom. Our science teacher did a victory dance when she heard the great news.

Our students LOVE technology and are considerably more engaged when working with new software. These are the kinds of resources that matter when trying to close the achievement gap. It really helps to bring life into the math classroom and will certainly lead to an increase in achievement.

What an awesome experience. What's particularly striking is how donors came from all across the country. I cannot adequately express how much your gift means to our community. Thank you very much. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. G.

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and 14 other donors.
