Welcome to my Giving Page! Please support my efforts in Science Bloggers for Students challenge, a friendly month-long competition (10/10/10 through 11/9/10) between science blogs to see which can do the most to help low-income classrooms on DonorsChoose.org. Pick a classroom project from the list to support. And let’s beat the other bloggers! (By the way, DonorsChoose.org is a 501(c)3 charity. See below for approvals from Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau.)
This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. Your donation allowed us to greatly increase the number of books in our classroom library. These science books quickly became some of our favorites! I am able to use them to teach both reading comprehension strategies and science content. There are books on many different levels, so all of my students are able to find books they can read on their own.
The books are colorful and informative. Most of my students do not have access to books at home, nor do they have opportunities to visit science museums or take field trips. These science books have helped them develop background knowledge about a number of scientific topics and have helped them increase their vocabularies. The books have sparked their curiosities. My students have enthusiastically drawn pictures and written about what they have learned.
Thank you for being a valuable part of helping these young students discover new possibilities and ideas. You have truly helped them develop a lifelong love of learning!”
I am so grateful for you all donating to my classroom project. My students have had a chance to read and study "Fast Food Nation" throughout our macromolecule and physiology unit. The students were able to grasp a good understanding of hypertension and diabetes and know the relationship between the quality of their food and the effect on the human body. Apparently, many of my students shared the book with their parents and I had parents write me thank you notes for helping me change their son/daughter nutritional habits. I know this will be a lifelong lesson that my students will appreciate and I just wanted to thank you all one last time. These materials will definitely be used in my future lessons so your contribution will continue to benefit young and impressionable students. Thank you!”
I am so grateful for your generosity! The carpet that you provided my classroom has completely changed our circle time activities as well as the atmosphere in the room. Every one of my parents has commented on how much more cheerful and inviting the classroom is now. And it is all thanks to you!
Now my students are able to sit on the carpet in their own "space" and not get distracted with the edges or fight over the colors like with our previous remnant squares. They have been much more focused on their learning and we all now love our circle time! Our latest accomplishment is mastering the pledge of allegiance in sign language! It is something they will never forget, and would not have been able to even pay attention to learn the words, prior to your donation.
I am forever grateful and amazed at the kindness of people like you, who value early childhood education.
Thank you once again for your kind contribution to this project. My students will benefit for years to come from your generosity. I've already used a couple of the videos in my classroom, and have started to inaugurate a check-out system, whereby students can view the videos at home. This has greatly freed up instructional time, and students benefit by being able to watch quality educational films.
Since I can't show pictures of my students watching the videos, I've posted images of the classwork and projects that my students are now able to do, now that instructional time has opened up. Again, on behalf of my now AND future students, thank you so very much”
I wanted once again to THANK YOU for your generous donation to our classroom and this letter is just a small token of my sincere appreciation.
We've already used the Color, Seasons and Weather Theme Boxes, and are currently using the Farms Theme Box. My students have learned so much so far from your generous gifts. They have learned to make scientific observations, mixing of colors, and learned of crops and farm animals. I've just sent off my caterpillar coupon for our Butterfly Nursery. Can't wait to see the amazement and awe in my students' beautiful faces as they learn about life cycles and get to see and experience it first hand!!!
Thank you, thank you for bringing that sense of wonder and amazement into our classroom! My students always refer to you all as "The Nice People," and I couldn't agree more!!!
Once again THANK YOU!!!”

Due to the generous donations made by everyone who participated I have been able to plan and execute better labs for my students. The storage bottles allow me to prepare and safely store chemicals vital to the labs that we do. The 'Demo A Day' book has given me a multitude of ideas to demonstrate the material to students and get their attention and get them excited about the content they are learning. The other material will give us more flexibility in the labs that we can perform now that we have necessary equipment.
I hope that all of you will continue to help teachers through this website. It is a wonderful way to keep our schools functioning at their best during these difficult budget battles we are all going through. You are truly helping all our futures by helping these kids and the appreciate it greatly.
Thank you so much for your donation to my students and my classroom. The students had such a great time using the dissection tools to dissect the squids. The students were engaged and got an experience that is sadly rare in schools these days. Next week we will be cracking open those brains and eyes as we study body systems.
I am grateful for people out there who show support for science education and the value of labs and hands-on materials in learning, especially for the special needs students enrolled in my classes. Thank you for what you have given to my students.”

Thank you so much for your generous donation which helped my AP Chemistry students have access to an excellent electronic balance.
My students have now had an opportunity to use the balance for two different laboratory experiences. The balance that you helped purchase increased both the accuracy and precision for the labs...which makes them much more enjoyable for my students. The students were very pleased with the usability of the balance as well.
Your kind donations have made my class more engaging for my students. They truly appreciate your help and so do I! We are hopeful that increased access to labs will help our test scores on the May 2, AP Chemistry exam!
I am sorry for the late response to all of your generous donations, but my students and I just recently had the opportunity to use our new microscopes in class. My students used the microscopes just last week to compare and contrast the structure of plants and animal cells. I can't even express how excited my students were to explore their own cheek cells and determine how they compare to the cells of a leaf. This activity acted as a perfect introduction to our unit on the human cell and will really help solidify my students' understanding of the future material.
I am also extremely excited about how we will use these microscopes in the coming months. Thanks to your donations, my students will have opportunities to explore the structure and composition of brain tissue, heart tissue, DNA, etc. These donations will bring new life and excitement to my science curriculum.
I can't thank you enough for your generous donations. The new microscopes have changed the way my students think about science. They now understand that science is a hands on subject where exploration is the key to learning. I know that they, more than anyone, are grateful for what you each have given them. Once again, thank you so much for your donations. You have each single handedly helped improve the quality of education that each of my students will receive.”
I want to sincerely thank you for donating to my project. The wireless microphones have had quite an impact on the way we report the news during our morning news show. Now, my students have been able to share big book stories with the rest of the school, use the new microphones while reciting poetry, which allows them to use gestures, and demonstrate all kinds of step-by-step directions without having to move around the microphone wires. Our new microphones also have improved the sound quality of the morning announcements!
As you probably know, funding for education is becoming more and more scarce. Only with the help of people like you will our students be able to continue developing skills that are not considered essential.
Once again, THANK YOU for your generosity. You have made a big difference in our lives. ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Simeon
