Thank you so much for your generosity in donating towards a classroom set of The Merriam-Webster Thesaurus. Vernacular among children is sometimes bland and boring. Thanks to your generosity, we'll now be able to expand our vocabulary while learning new way to express ourselves.
Recently, we set out to impress adults in our school and community with the new words we've learned and committed to memory. The response was overwhelming, impressive, and heart-warming. The children feel accomplished and according to one, "I just feel smarter when I use the word 'grotesque' instead of 'ugly.'
Thank you all so much for your donation! We have recently completed our Of Mice and Men unit, and it was a great success! The students understood and were able to thoughtfully analyze the novel. Just as importantly, almost all of them truly enjoyed reading it.
We wrapped up our unit, and the year, with a literary photo scavenger hunt. The students demonstrated their knowledge of Of Mice and Men, as well as the other texts we have read this year, by figuring out clues related to those texts and taking photos of the answers. You will see those pictures on this site!
Thank you again! Without your help, our students could not have read one of the most engaging and stimulating novels we read all year! Mr. K and I deeply appreciate your generosity. ”
With gratitude,
Mr. Hodgens
This classroom project was brought to life by Townsend Press and 4 other donors.
Students are often measured by the growth that they demonstrate in an academic year. Your generous donations made reading in our classroom exciting and energizing. The students loved the new books! They couldn't wait to get their hands on both fiction and nonfiction titles. The excitement filled the room when the boxes arrived. Many students wanted to stay in for recess and read. The number of books going home so kids could finish reading the next chapter was incredible. Thank you for creating not only a love of reading, but a love of learning as well. Many students applied their research skills to extend their learning, using the various books that you helped to add to our library. Students were very interested in the nonfiction books that were purchased. These books helped my third graders learn how to read for information. Student's use of comprehension strategies increased. This really made an impact on their ability to write about their reading as well. This is an important skill as much of their future learning will be based on the written form. All year long, my students have been learning different strategies for how to grow as writers. The books that you helped to purchase really encouraged them as writers. The students learned many new techniques for how to improve their writing, adopted new mentor authors, and were able to study different genres of writing. Thank you for helping my students to grow this academic year. The books that you purchased will be used to impact many more students in the years to come. The gift of reading is one that continues to give.
I want to thank you for your amazing gift. You have been an essential part of our schools first schoolwide science fair. Without your help few of my students would have had the opportunity to compete in the fair and experiment with science.
My students completed their science fair projects and had two science fairs in which they demonstrated their amazing projects. In each class 5 winners were chosen based on the quality and creativity of their project. A later science fair allowed my students to demonstrate their projects for the entire school. Students chose creative and original experiments such as measuring vitamin C content in orange juice, comparing the chemicals in hair straighteners, figuring out the perfect basketball shot, and testing if video games increase reaction time. The quality of their projects was amazing and they are so glad to have had the opportunity. I wish you as donors could have seen the science fair so you could have seen the effect you had.
I cannot express how important these projects were to my students and the joy with which they showed off their projects, experiments and boards. Teachers from all over the school expressed how impressive they found my students projects. My students and I thank you for you donation and your help. Thank you.”
Thank you so much for your generous donation to my kindergarten scholars! The materials will provide more hands on learning that this age desperately needs! This donation will be shared amongst all of our kindergarten students and they will get to experience life cycle changes with real butterflies by the end of the school year!
My students grow up in a neighborhood where they do not have a great deal of resources and having a class pet has been something my students took a great deal of pride in. Now they will have a high quality fish tank to make observations :)
Thank you for your contributions to our mathematics classroom. I am excited to begin next school year with the technological resources you have provided. I am grateful for every advantage we can provide for our underserved student population, as this group of amazing middle schoolers are preparing themselves to change the world.
I wish I could thank you all in person, but know that the resources you have provided are greatly appreciately and will be put to good use on a daily basis! ”
This trip was fantastic. The kids enjoyed themselves and learned an immense amount. They explored the San Juan River for 4 days, learning about rocks, nature, themselves and each other. They challenged themselves to paddle rafts against the wind and to hike in the high elevation desert. They hiked down in to the Grand Canyon and saw a variety of animals and plants. They are exhausted but fulfilled. Many of them are looking forward to visiting the Southwest again later in life and perhaps participating in another river trip on their own.
Please continue to support experiential education as it is a crucial piece of the education puzzle.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Thompson
