It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • I think I can, I think I can... I KNOW I can!

    Funded May 20, 2011

Thank you so much for funding my project. With the school year coming to an end, my current students will be able to use the story paper to write their end of the year journals. With these journals, my students will remember what it was like to be a second grader and be able to look back at all the memories they had. It wouldn't have been possible to remember everything without their journals, and because of you they have them. I'm also excited to have the test prep resources for my next group of students. We will be able to start the school year fresh and start getting ready for spring testing. They will be able to work on their reading fluency as well as their comprehension.

Again, thank you so much. Your donation will definitely be making a difference in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Read to Me!

    Funded Mar 21, 2011

Yesterday was our last day of school! As I was cleaning my room I stared at my new listening station. I couldn't help but smile thinking about how excited my students were to have this new and exciting technology in our classroom. During center time my students couldn't wait to use the listening station, they always gave a fist pump when they heard their name called for the listening station. I wish you could see the impact you have made in my classroom!

Next year I will be teaching English Language Learners and the listening station will make a world of difference to my students. The majority of my student's parents will not speak English and will therefore not be able to read to their children in English. My new listening station will change that and my students will be able to listen to stories in English. Words cannot express my gratitude and I can assure you that your donation will impact the youth of our nation in the years to come!

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snowden

  • Endangered Species: Not If We Have Anything To Say About It!

    Funded Jan 28, 2011

Thank you again for the many books we received about threatened and endangered species. Our research is currently underway and students are busy collecting their facts and citing their resources. When they have finished collecting facts from the books and the Internet, they will organize their facts into an outline. From there they will use a template I provided to create their PowerPoint presentation to share with the class. I asked students today to write down one of the most interesting facts they learned about their species so far and I thought I'd share with you some of their responses:

"Wolf pups are born blind, deaf, and helpless."

    "Lions are afraid of porcupines."

"The polar bear can swim up to 6 mph and can swim for 60 miles."

"Giraffes moo, hiss, also their tongues are black so it does not get sun burn."

"Pygmy Marmosets are only 5 inches tall but can jump 16 feet high."

"There was a two-ton eagle's nest that was 9.5 feet long."

"If you shave off a tiger's fur the stripes from the fur would be shown on the tiger's skin."

"They [great white shark] can swallow their prey whole."

"A tiger's roar can be heard from a mile away."

"If the mother [panda] has 2 or more cubs the mother will only take care of one cub and let the other die."

"They [grizzly bear] like salmon a lot."

"One powerful kick from the front legs of a giraffe can knock the wind out of a lion and kill it."

"Elephant female is pregnant for 22 months, so baby can fully stand after birth within an hour."

"Asian elephants barely leave any footprints."

"The giraffe sleeps up to only 2 hours a day."

As you can see, they are learning so much about their research topic! Never doubt that you have made a difference. In-depth research projects like these are what helps them to retain the long-term skills required for this world, as well as a love and appreciation of their animal.

Thank you again for this opportunity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Scott

  • Blast-Off Into Reading!!

    Funded Nov 27, 2010

This is only a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The reading materials, games and center activities that you donated for my classroom have been used every single day since receiving them. We have used the activities during group center time to build new vocabulary words and sentences, independent reading practice, and guided reading instruction with beginner groups to the more advanced groups.

Learning to read in first grade is one of the most important things we do in our classroom each day. The resources you provided us with have made a huge impact on my students academic success this year, as well as future students for years to come.

Thank you again for donating to this project, it is truly appreciated. Without donors like you, many classrooms in the United States would go without.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Conway

  • Training Mad Scientists

    Funded Jan 5, 2011

After recently receiving the microscopes that you helped to purchase for my class, we spent a great deal of time going over the anatomy of the microscope and how to use it. Then I created a lab for them where they had to successfully observe and relate to me how the image in the microscope gets inverted. We used the traditional method of looking at a lower case "e" in the scope. My students marveled when I exposed them to the world of microscopic measurement, and we even had the kids find the distance from one side of the field to the next so that they could see how many millimeters are contained in the field. My students loved the fact that they could use a microscope to measure small distances that were comparable to the cellular level. All my classes measured the space contained in the field of view on all the powers of the microscope.

Finally after ensuring that all the students could use the microscope on the basic level, we turned them loose to observe a few pre-prepared slides. My students were elated when they found paramecium, fungi, and compared frog with human blood. They even went as far as to pull their hairs from their head to try and compare the difference between each persons hair. The time that we have spent with the microscopes thus far has been exciting. Thank you so much for your contribution the the advanced education of my students. ”

  • Supplies for Super Students!

    Funded Dec 8, 2010

Thank you so much for your donation! We were so excited to get all of the supplies that we ordered. As a school in much need we are so thankful for the small things such as paper, pencils, crayons, and erasers.

With your help my students are able to do many fun writing activities to help us get better in writing. They are also able to use the crayons to color pictures and make them more fun! Everything that we ordered has helped my students to become more fluent in English and helped them become successful in math, reading, and writing!

Thank you again for helping donate all these wonderful supplies! We are so thankful for people like you that really care about the education of children and realize that students need these basic supplies to make school worth while. You have no idea how much this means to my students and I. We are so grateful!

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Parish

    Funded Dec 12, 2010

First of all I would like to commend you on your generous spirit! You have all taken the time to recognize the needs that many classrooms have.

The Flip Cam has proved to be a wonderful addition to our resources. It has given many students the opportunity to demonstrate their personalities and creativity in a new and exciting way.

In the state that Education is in today, your donation was welcomed and will be used for years to come!

Again, I personally thank each and every one of you for your generous donations!

    Sincere Thanks,

    Miss M.”

  • EveryBODY Needs PE!

    Funded Jan 13, 2011

On behalf of myself, the students and staff of Village Meadows, we thank you for your generous donation in funding this project. Because of an extremely limited budget, we would never have been able to order the footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, gator balls and hula hoops. We have been able to use these items for our PE units/lessons and our before&after school classes. But what made this even more special was that everything came in time for our annual Field Days, which if you asked any student on campus, they would call the best day of the year! To be able to have NEW equipment on a day when they are celebrating their fitness and skills was absolutely amazing! I wish we would have captured the looks on the students faces when we first showed them the shipment of equipment! Their faces and screams were priceless. This was instant motivation for our PE classes. They could not wait to use the equipment.

Once again, with your donation and partnership, I am able to continue to engage & motivate the students and build positive attitudes towards a lifetime commitment to fitness and sports.”

  • Grammar Gurus In Training!

    Funded Jan 4, 2011

I wanted to let you all know what a tremendous impact your generosity has had on my students.  My students have thoroughly enjoyed using the individual whiteboards for grammar study, and I have witnessed an impressive increase in their understanding and application of grammar and usage rules.  In particular, we spent a great deal of time learning how to correctly use introductory phrases; I used the individual whiteboards to quiz students about the structure of introductory phrases and to practice correctly writing sentences.

Additionally, the students used the special paper and magic markers donated to create tombstones for "dead words."  This lesson was a hands-on way to teach students how to improve their word choice by eliminating words such as "nice" with fresher and more vivid vocabulary.  I am posting pictures of their tombstones for your enjoyment.  Indeed, my students use the markers and paper regularly to enhance their learning.

Without a doubt, your gift will enhance my students' writing not only for this school year but for a lifetime.  Thank you”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. St. Clair

  • Math is FUN!

    Funded Dec 15, 2010

This letter a small token of appreciation of my gratitude for your generous donation to my middle school students. The white boards, markers, and other manipulative's that you donated to my students have been more than beneficial to my students and classroom. Your contributions have allowed my students to have a more hands on experience when it comes to working with math. Students use these materials to work in centers, small groups and individually. Also, these materials are not only helping my students now, but it will also help the future students who enter my classroom!

Our school, as well as many other schools around the country are in a budget crisis but with your help, you have definitely made it possible for students to not be left out due to a tight budget. Instead of them using textbooks, and pen and paper, teaching can be taken outside of the box and into the hand of the students!

    With much gratitude,

    Ms. A”
