Thank you again for the many books we received about threatened and endangered species. Our research is currently underway and students are busy collecting their facts and citing their resources. When they have finished collecting facts from the books and the Internet, they will organize their facts into an outline. From there they will use a template I provided to create their PowerPoint presentation to share with the class. I asked students today to write down one of the most interesting facts they learned about their species so far and I thought I'd share with you some of their responses:
"Wolf pups are born blind, deaf, and helpless."
"Lions are afraid of porcupines."
"The polar bear can swim up to 6 mph and can swim for 60 miles."
"Giraffes moo, hiss, also their tongues are black so it does not get sun burn."
"Pygmy Marmosets are only 5 inches tall but can jump 16 feet high."
"There was a two-ton eagle's nest that was 9.5 feet long."
"If you shave off a tiger's fur the stripes from the fur would be shown on the tiger's skin."
"They [great white shark] can swallow their prey whole."
"A tiger's roar can be heard from a mile away."
"If the mother [panda] has 2 or more cubs the mother will only take care of one cub and let the other die."
"They [grizzly bear] like salmon a lot."
"One powerful kick from the front legs of a giraffe can knock the wind out of a lion and kill it."
"Elephant female is pregnant for 22 months, so baby can fully stand after birth within an hour."
"Asian elephants barely leave any footprints."
"The giraffe sleeps up to only 2 hours a day."
As you can see, they are learning so much about their research topic! Never doubt that you have made a difference. In-depth research projects like these are what helps them to retain the long-term skills required for this world, as well as a love and appreciation of their animal.
Thank you again for this opportunity!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Scott
