  • FLIP Video Cameras Will Help Us Learn & Gain Tech Experience

    Funded Sep 26, 2011

Our students are gaining such important, hands-on learning thanks to your generous donations! We have used the new video cameras in all of the ways we planned, but have also had so many more ideas come to life simply because we had these resources in our classroom.

Thank you for your support of our New York City students and for donating to public education. Our budgets would never have been able to afford these FLIP video cameras, so your kindness ALONE has allowed these important learning experiences!

Thanks again to Yahoo! and their great funding opportunity that helped us reach our goal.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Manaris

  • Let's Cook Healthy Food in Kindergarten! - Part 2

    Funded Jul 22, 2011

We are having such a great time learning and creating healthy recipes together. We hope you can see the happiness on our Students' faces as the participate in true hands-on learning!

Many of our Kindergarten Students had not been actively involved in any kind of "cooking" or food preparation. We are also introducing Nutrition concepts that are critical for all of them and know that this learning will have a lifelong impact for them. This project has been positive in so many ways and we are very thankful for the enriched learning you have helped to provide for them.

We are grateful to each and every one of the 9 DONORS from all over the country who helped to make this possible - especially The Altschul Foundation and Feed USA for their generous funding. We also want to thank you again for your encouraging comments about the importance of Nutrition Education for all school children.

I am truly grateful for all of your support and hope you can take a look at my fellow teachers' worthy projects and keep spreading the word about the power of DonorsChoose.org!

We cannot thank you enough for helping our New York City Kindergarten Students. Thank you for your support and commitment to Education! ”

  • Healthy Snacks Will Help Kindergarten Kids Stay Focused!

    Funded Sep 4, 2011

We are very thankful for your donations to bring healthy snacks to our Kindergarten classroom. Our students were so glad to see the new snacks and have loved having a healthy way to stay energized during the day.

For many of our 5 year old kids, this is their first experience away from home. Full-day Kindergarten is a giant first step and makes for a long, exhausting day. These snacks have allowed us to keep our students fueled in a healthy way and we really appreciate your support in this initiative.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness! Many of our fellow Teachers also have very deserving project ideas posted, so please take a look if you have a few minutes: www.DonorsChoose.org/school/ps-242/940

  • Tennis & Badminton, Anyone?

    Funded Jul 22, 2011

KEEP FITNESS FUN = HAPPY, HEALTHY, ACTIVE KIDS!

We are having such a great time learning the basic skills of Tennis and Badminton together! Most of our young students had never had an opportunity to hold a racquet before and now are enjoying these fun games that require concentration and finesse. Even the most basic skill learning is helping our students to improve their hand-eye coordination, balance, agility and mental focus.

We are truly grateful for all of the people who helped to make this possible. We want to thank you again for your encouraging comments about the importance of Physical Education for all school children. Also, a special thanks to Feed USA for their continued generosity and support of healthy initiatives across the country.

  • We LOVE Healthy Cooking IN Our Kindergarten Classroom!

    Funded Sep 5, 2011

Our Kindergarten students are having such a great time with healthy cooking lessons IN our classroom! Thank you again for all of your support and encouragement for our project. A huge thanks to Seth Sprague Foundation for their generous Almost Home funding offer.

We have been able to combine this hands-on education with the MyPlate nutrition guideline lessons that our Movement / Physical Education Teacher has started - these supplies were also generously funded in part by the Seth Sprague Foundation and Donors like you! We all think it's critical for young children to gain understanding of simple nutrition concepts that will help them lead healthier lives.

We are so thankful for all that you've done to support education and hope you can take a few moments to look at our fellow Teachers' worthy projects. Keep spreading the word about the power of DonorsChoose.org! [DonorsChoose.org/school/ps-242/940] ”

  • Let's Cook Healthy Food in Kindergarten! - Part 1

    Funded Jul 22, 2011

We really appreciate all of your generosity and encouraging words about our project. Thank you again to The Altschul Foundation and Feed USA for their support of our Cooking in the Classroom project for our NYC Kindergarten.

We've all had such fun with hands-on learning and making our own healthy snacks in class! They loved the way that math made sense as we made applesauce and cut apples into 2 halves and then 4 quarters. Many students had never been involved in measuring and cooking, so these experiences are especially valuable for them.

You have proven the power of helping others to our entire school community. Thank you to DonorsChoose.org for connecting us with these incredible people!

If you have a chance, please take a look at my fellow teachers' deserving projects too. They have great ideas like anti-bullying, TAG reading, new Carpet to fit a full class and many others: www.DonorsChoose.org/school/ps-242/940

Thank you again for helping our young students start their nutrition education with hands-on involvement! ”

  • Character-Building Books to Help Young Students Grow (#3)

    Funded Sep 5, 2011

In addition to engaging and educating students on an academic level, it is also very important to help them develop their personal and social skills for their time in school and in the real world. At our school, we are fortunate to have the advantage of working with students in the early childhood setting which allows us to instill important values and behaviors early in their lives.

Thanks to your generous donation, we have been able to kick off our Character Building Book of The Month program which allows over 400 students to learn more about important topics such as diversity, respect self-control and bullying. The program is being done school wide which means that every class will read the same book for the month. Students will be discussing the important topics and creating projects such as posters, charts, illustrations, poems and writing pieces. We will also be displaying the projects on a bulletin board for everyone to see.

Thank you so very much for your support in helping us raise confident, respectful and productive young children. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dyszel

  • Basic Library Supplies Will Improve Learning Environment

    Funded Aug 30, 2011

We are so grateful for all of the donations that helped us to get this beautiful new carpet for our Library. The children were so excited to see this vibrant, book-themed carpet for the first time!

Classroom space has always been very limited at our NYC school, but this year we've had to squeeze optimal use out of every inch. Our Library has now been transformed into a Science / Media / Library Center! Thanks to your generous support, we have a great carpet with 30-designated spots for students to sit comfortably during Science, Technology and Library classes.
