It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Writing My Small Moments

    Funded Mar 1, 2010

Thank you very much for the gift of journals. The daily writing of 300 sixth graders was such a pleasure to see and read. Without your gift we would have had many handfuls of students who couldn't afford their own journal. Writing from a daily prompt or just free writing was enjoyed so much that on days we couldn't write the students moaned and groaned!

A special thank you from the six teachers who benefited from your classroom gift. At over a dollar a piece this would have prevented us from buying classroom books and pencils. Passing out the journals was just a pleasure.

To be supported by so many caring people made our students and teachers feel very appreciated!

We can't say thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Boyle

  • Flip The Switch For Digital Storytelling!

    Funded Feb 22, 2010

Thank you all so very much for your support. As we speak I am currently at a statewide educational conference and expo, and many of the presenters are using the Flip cameras you all helped my class to secure. These will allow my students to truly create their own learning experiences and gain higher order thinking skills that are too often missing in classrooms today. The reality of society is that technology now surrounds us and I appreciate you helping me embrace the philosophy so wisely spoken by Benjamin Franklin, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Thanks again for your generosity and I only hope you see the benefits of projects like mine positively impact the future of tomorrow.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Strine

  • Dr. Seuss Is On The Loose!

    Funded Mar 4, 2010

Your generosity benefitted our class in countless ways!

First, you motivated a lifelong love of reading as each child was able to take home two beautiful books to cal their own.

Next, you filled our classroom with fun as we had a Dr. Seuss Celebration Day filled with listening to Green Eggs and Ham, cooking and eating eating Green Eggs and Ham, and making an art project with Green Eggs and Ham! We were able to recognize the rhyming patterns in the stroy and read along with the familiar words we knew!

Last, your generosity produced learning! We pointed out sight words we knew in the story, made up our own rhymes, and learned to read and manipulate word families. We also wrote in our creative writing journals and pretended to be an author just like Dr. Suess!

Finally, the love and joy in a child's eyes when they get a new book is priceless. Thank you for making this a reality for each child in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Krause

  • Print Rich Learning Environment

    Funded Feb 4, 2010

Thank you for providing the marker board easel in my classroom. My students enjoy writing on it and reading from it.

I use the board mostly for instruction in small groups. Students love to come out to the board to solve math problems or do their spelling. The two sided board is particularly helpful when students read and answer questions on one side while I am writing more information on the other. Its ability to hang a flip chart is equivalent to having a third board for display and writing. This tool helps to reduce transition moments and maximize instruction time.

Al least eight students helped to assemble the easel. They take pride in their contribution, and they particularly like to "learn" from this marker board. The marker board is an excellent helper in my classroom. Thank you once again for creating a great learning environment for my students. ”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Make Room For the Music Makers!

    Funded Feb 8, 2010

In these few short paragraphs I can only hope to express how much my students and I appreciate your donation to our project "Make Room For the Music Makers." The addition of the two new "a space for everyone" carpets has not only brightened up our music room, these carpets have eliminated many distractions allowing our lessons to run more smoothly than ever.

I have found that there are notably less issues with students invading each others space during music class due to every student having an assigned, clearly outlined square. If things start to get a little wacky, all I have to say is "hands and feet inside your square please" and they know exactly what I mean. The kindergarten students I teach are especially fond of the bright colors. I wish you could have heard them the first time they saw the new carpets. There was a exciting outcry of "oohs" and "ahhs!"

As you may already know, our school district and most other school districts around the country have been facing significant budget cuts these past two years. The kindness you have shown through your donation has made a huge difference in the lives of these students. You have allowed us to add new items and experiences to our classroom that would not have been possible otherwise at this time. Thank you so much again for your gift.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dobranski

  • "Focusing In" On College!

    Funded Feb 4, 2010

Thank you very much for your generous donation that has allowed my class to purchase and use 20 compound light microscopes.

Since we have received the microscopes, my students have been able to make their own stained slides of leaf samples to observe eukaryotic nuclei. My students loved creating onion root tip slides and observing the stages of mitosis in microscopic detail. They were also amazed when we extracted DNA from strawberries and their own cells, created slides, and observed the genetic material using the microscopes.

Many of my students who have never before used microscopes commented on the clarity of their observations and how they have never seen anything so small.

As I prepare my students for college, it is essential that I give them the opportunity to explore the microscopic world. Thank you for making it possible.

I look forward to using the microscopes with my future students. Keep giving.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Johnson

  • Computer, Cameras and Autism; Oh My!

    Funded Feb 3, 2010

Thank you all so much for making such a huge change in my classroom. Not only is the way that my instruction in the classroom has changed but also my kids are able to take the laptops into their general education classes and are able to keep up!

As I am sure you know autism is such a unique disability and the kids that are diagnosed are just as unique. But with their interest in computers and their level of intelligence the laptops have made their transition into general education FLAWLESS!

Thank you all again for supporting special education and our fight to allow these kids the same opportunities as all others.

    xoxo”

  • Wii Music

    Funded Feb 26, 2010

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous donation to this project. Some of the equipment is still on back-order, so my students are anxiously awaiting it's arrival. This WII gaming system will give my students a chance to be creative and have some fun in music class. The WII music game will reinforce many of the music concepts we learn in class. Many of my students have never played the WII before and are so appreciative of the opportunity to learn how it works. They really couldn't believe that people would donate so much money for them to have something to use in school. It was a great conversation about how people help each other out. So, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share that lesson with them. Thank you again for being so generous!”

  • It All Adds Up

    Funded Feb 11, 2010

    Dear Donor,

I want to be the first to thank you for your continuous support inside my classroom. Your donation has made it possible to buy the wonderful art supplies for my classroom. These art supplies will benefit my students in many ways.

My students will now be able to express their creative side through different medias. The clay will allow my students to make Mother's and Father's Day presents. The felt will be used for various projects including St. Patrick's Day Hats. The paintbrushes will allow my students to have a paint brush each instead of sharing. This is all made possible because of your great appreciation for the classroom.

In the upcoming weeks, my students will be working on their science fair projects. With these art supplies, they will be able to add more details to their display and be more prepared for their presentation.

Thank you again for all that you have done. Without your support and contributions, this would have never been made possible!

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jones
