Yup. I'm at it again. This will be be my 5th and FINAL year of growing out my upper lip as a way to raise money for kids. Its been a great run through the years. A rough estimate has me somewhere in the vicinity of having raised $5K over the past four seasons. And although this is my final year, I have encouraged 13 of my classmates at UMaryland Dental to grow with me this year. It is in my hopes they will carry on this wonderful tradition in the years to come....

In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support kidz from Baltimore skools. Thanks so much in advance - your support through the years has been outstanding. hide
Thank you so much for donating to such a worthy cause! The students and teachers have loved having an additional digital camera to use in the classroom. The students get so excited when they see their pictures and love it even more when I can hand them the camera to take their own pictures.
Teachers use to take pictures of their children engaged in learning to use for their websites and newsletters. Students have been using the camera to take a variety of pictures. The third grade students have been taking pictures to add to their literary magazine and fourth grade students have used the camera to take pictures of various items they would need to complete a "How to" writing composition.
We will continue to use the camera in the computer lab and other classrooms as needed. We are hoping to add more in the near future. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Villa Cresta really appreciates your support!!!”
Thank you so much for bringing this project to life for my students. Without a doubt, the students have been enjoying the hands on math materials. The materials ordered were for grades 3 and 4; thus, I have been able to differentiate my instruction. My higher level students are moving forward and my lower level students are catching up. Too, by using items like "The Fraction Fun Flash Cards" and " The Place Value Practice Board", the students are able to work independently and have lots of fun learning. One thing I have noticed is that students from other classes are peeking in my classroom to see my students building geometric figures using the "Build&Learn Geometry Kit". This is awesome!
Once again, I thank you for giving the students the right tools to explore, see, and discover math in the classroom. Without your support, math would be so "dull". ”
Thank you very much for your donation to my science project. The students love the new science centers and are excited to use them more. Also, the video Planet Earth has hugely impacted our studies of animal habitats. The students truly enjoy watching and learning about animals in their natural environments. Most of my students have only seen or learned about wild animals in the zoo. Planet Earth gives them a different window to the world.
The various types of materials donated, which include the video; books; and games, are all very useful in engaging students in science learning. The students will soon be wrapping up animal habitats and watching the changes of the life cycle of a butterfly.
Thank you again for your donation to this project. Science learning is very important. The students and myself appreciate your support.”
The green screen experience has definitely peeked the interest of my students as they were awed when they witnessed the transformations. Some of my reluctant students have came alive and Have been eager to participate. One student in particular became animated and truly enjoyed the total experience, she was a true natural.
Thank you for the awesome opportunity of allowing me to bring creativity into our classroom by encouraging my students to visually see their writing. It was because of your generosity and donations towards the purchase of the green screen that have opened their eyes allowing them to not see writing as one-dimensional or a tedious task that takes time and effort but a tool to help them become better writers. The green screen has allowed our students to produce their finished product, first, the working backwards as they develop their stories. This has helped my students transform their writing but writing math stories have been still been challenging. My students are beginning to see the writing process as an effective way to communicate when you are not there to plain every action or detail. Their stories have more structure, substance and colorful details! I have just incorporated video and look forward to creating our first commercial and imovie, student direct and filmed.
Finally, I am excited to share that a parent observed us using the green screen and he is anxious to collaborate on a future project. Through your donations you are collectively helping me to engage our not only our students but our parents as well. That is priceless.
Words cannot express how truly thankful I am for your support of my students. It is great to see that there are people out there who believe in the education of today's youth. My students have greatly benefited from the use of cooking in the classroom. Through our cooking we have learned about measurement, time, proportion and how to follow directions. The students are able to apply the skills we have learned in class to a real life situation which takes their learning to the next level.
Thank you so much for your generous donation to our math classroom! My students have been enjoying the materials daily.
My students have been mastering their basic facts by using the facts stamps set. They have also been able to 'see' regrouping by using the hands-on kit. Geometry has been so much easier for us because we have been able to fold shapes and touch the edges, faces and vertices. We are also learning more about numbers by solving number puzzles.
Thank you so incredibly much for your donations. Since receiving the printer, we have made sure it has gotten plenty of use. The students have used the printer to print the final drafts of mini research projects, and I have used it to print their love sonnets for our classroom bulletin board. Being able to print these assignments has allowed the students to see that revision and submission of clean drafts is not only important, but possible! I know that my Honors class been extremely grateful. In the past, many of them had to run around like chickens with their heads cut off in order to gain access to a printer for their home assignments. Now, they simply have to go to the back of the room.
More than printing, I have been able to use the scanner to create jpeg and pdf images that can be emailed to parents and students. Parents enjoy seeing samples of their child's work, without actually having to come to the school. Additionally, students who have missed classroom time, are appreciative of the fact that I can scan pages from a classroom text, instead of having to loan them a book.
Thank you so much for your donation to my project. Thanks to your generosity my special education students are able to more actively participate in independent reading and are gaining confidence every day. The TAG reading system allows for my students to read books on their own without the assistance of their teacher during center time when I am not in the room to provide them with service. My students enjoy the readers so much that they are now teaching their non-disabled peers how to use them. When I initially wrote the proposal for this project, I had never thought of this use. Yet after observing a "training" session run by one of my students I have seen what an amazing confidence builder it is for them. Very often my students are the ones who need the extra help from their peers and now they are able to teach something that they have mastered. Thank you so much for your contribution and for helping to empower my students!”
With gratitude,
Ms. D.
This classroom project was brought to life by LeapFrog and 10 other donors.
This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my students. The college and career books that you donated have helped my students greatly. They have helped my students learn about the college and career opportunities available to them. The books have also motivated my students to think about their future and what steps they need to take in order to attend college and have a successful career.
Many of our students will be first generation college students, so without your help, my students would not be as informed about the college and career opportunities available to them.
Without donors like you, thousands of students would go without valuable resources to help them plan for their future”
A few days ago, our supplies arrived. And they came just in time. Last week, my class was doubled due to budget cuts, and the incoming students were over 2 weeks behind their peers. We needed something drastic to catch the kids up, in math--something clear, engaging, and hands-on--something that would allow them to wrap their minds (very quickly) around place value, a very difficult concept for a six-year old to grasp.
In the few days these students had with their regrouping charts and place-value blocks, their math journals and their magnetic boards, their number lines and countables--in those few days these students mastered a tough concept. Today, they proved themselves, achieving a class average over 90% on their unit exam.
So while I was always confident that these supplies would help my 16 original students, your gift has reached even more students, in an even more dramatic way then I had expected. And while having so many new faces around is sometimes trying, my students and I are excited about the progress we have ahead of us, and the support we've got behind us.
Thank you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Ahmann
