It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids (AGAIN). That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. Thank you so very much for your generous donations to our classroom. My students and I have enjoyed receiving and reading these great new books on a daily basis!
Every day, for 10-15 minutes a day, my kids participate in self selected reading. Since we've gotten all of these awesome books, they have been so much more engaged and excited to read! They even ask if they can read all period long! Prior to getting these books, SSR time was sometimes met with sighs and groans because there simply weren't enough "good books" to go around. Thanks to your generosity and selflessness, every student in all of my classes not only has one good book to read every day, but even has a list of good books that they want to read in the future.
Thank you for your contributions to my classroom. When people and other teachers hear me talk about how wonderful it was to get the donation, their first reaction is surprise that I just didn't have the basic equipment like an overhead projector and safety goggles. When you work in a school district that is low on funds, you don't think about what you could or should have if you work somewhere else, you figure out how to get what your students need to give them the best education possible.
With your donation, my students were able to get rid of the broken, inaccurate globe we had and use the new, bright, rotating globe. They no longer had to watch me rotate and revolve around the sun, they actually could use the globe! We also have been able to do more labs because we have goggles. We have made wet cell batteries, learned about acids and bases and are going to be comparing physical and chemical changes by making glue and molding clay.
Our everyday classes are much more enriched because I have the ability to use an overhead projector and explain the periodic table with one that is big enough for the whole class to see. We are all very grateful for your donation. Thank you so much!”
I thank you all so much for the generosity you have shown to my students and me. My students were so excited about the fact that individuals they have never met care enough to donate a listening center and an amazing listening library to go with it. They wanted me to pass on their "hellos" and "thank yous."
The materials donated are a huge hit. Many students have new favorite books and are increasing their reading fluency, especially with the quick-paced song books and Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham. Students are also able to listen to their Open Court stories, making the reading more enjoyable and increasing understanding of the stories.
The listening center is used during daily workshop and very often at free time during the week. This is an opportunity that was not possible without your help. My students and I give you many thanks for showing that schools with limited resources are not forgotten and amazing individuals are out there making a difference for our nation's children.”
I would like to personally thank each of your for your generosity. It is because of wonderful, loving people like you that children are afforded the basics of a good, solid education.
The games have made a tremendous impact on our classroom. Having math as the last subject of the day had been a "hard sell" to keep the students' interest and enthusiasm. Now, with the games and activities, the students are eager to finish the lesson and their required tasks so that they can quickly get back to the learning station tables to play. They share, play fair, abide by the rules, and learn all at the same time! It is truly an amazing sight.
I even have a group of young ladies who now ask to stay after school to play the games more. The same young ladies that would drift off, act out, or make careless errors our of disinterest are thriving and enthusiastic about math. They are even helping other students so that the lesson goes a little faster and they can play their game before time is up.
It is amazing to see just how much a few board games can change a child's life....and a teacher's life! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”
I want to sincerely thank you for helping my students learn chemistry through providing them with this technology. Because of the lack of resources available to my school, we were not able to perform a lot of the chemical reactions in the lab. Using the new projector, I was able to show my students videos of chemical reactions we had learned about in the classroom. This brought chemistry to life for them as they were able to see several real-life applications of our class. I can already see the impact this has had on their learning because they are coming to me to tell me more ways they have experienced chemistry outside of the classroom.
In addition, my students were able to present information to each other using the new technology. The skills they acquired through preparing and presenting information to their peers is something that will benefit them as they pursue additional education.
I hope you understand how much of an impact this has had on my classroom and my students' education. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. ”
With gratitude,
Ms. DelGiorno
This classroom project was brought to life by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and 11 other donors.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your generosity. Because of your donations, my classroom now has an LCD projector that we use every day. With the new display and connectivity to the Internet, my students are interactively learning vocabulary, exploring the setting and of class novels, and receiving the additional academic supports they need.
It is no secret that this is a difficult economic period. My school has struggled to provide photocopies, chalk, paper, and other essential items, and without your dedication and giving I would not be able to provide my students with the resources they need.
Again, thank you. Our class has come alive and you are part of that!”
With gratitude,
Teacher
