It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Staying Connected to Improve Achievement

    Funded Mar 17, 2010

I want to thank you again for your generosity and let you know how much these tools have impacted both the students and the teachers. The students are excited to participate in the project and I have seen interest from other teachers to implement the same technology in their classrooms.

The purpose of the equipment was to enable students to watch class because they missed school or they wanted to have additional material to study. Shortly after the program was running one of my students fell ill and could not attend school. This student watched class from home and completed all the assignments and was completely up to date when she returned to school. I have also had other students tell me how much easier it was to review class and complete assignments after they had watched the videos.

In addition to students gaining from the project, I have also had teachers ask about the equipment. I have given demonstrations and explanations on how it works and the benefits it provides for students. One of my coworkers is already working on obtaining the equipment for her classroom and implementing the program in her subject. Thank you for making a huge difference in so many lives through your donations. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Nelson

  • Learning to Listen, Love, and Laugh: "The Tuesdays Project"

    Funded Feb 6, 2010

I am so thankful for the opportunity that you granted for my students to be involved in "The Tuesdays Project." On May 3 and 4, we boarded school buses to travel to two local nursing homes. Students, equipped with smiles and trepidation, were grouped in trios to meet the residents and learn about their lives.

The project began a few days before our visit, however. The first task I asked my students to do was write letters to their assigned residents. I printed them out on the stationery you provided for us, and delivered them to each facility two days before our visit. I was happy to see that many of the residents brought the letters with them to the visit and were excited to meet the teens who had written to them.

When we returned from our visit, we began composing a "class movie." Students are still working on this, but we will finish by the end of the year. Using video editing software, along with the flash drives and microphones that you provided for us, students were able to create expressions of thanks for the residents they visited. Some have even expressed an interest to return to visit with their residents again.

Next week, I will deliver a DVD of our "class movie" to each of the residents and to the activity director of each facility. They plan on having a "movie night" to watch the videos.

Once again, I would just like to take this opportunity to express my thanks. This project could not have been a success if it had not been for your generous gift.

    Thank you for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rolinson

  • Help Them Write....Better

    Funded Feb 17, 2010

Thank you so much for your donations to my classroom. The whiteboards have made such a difference in my classroom already. My students have used them for editing games, written responses to text-based questions, and to brainstorm ideas for beginning their writing. Each of my six classes has used the whiteboards since their arrival. I can honestly say that the students look forward to working with the boards and ask if we can use them just about every day.

I don't need to convince donors like all of you how important writing skills are. Your generous gifts have contributed immensely to improving my students' writing abilities. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Moore

  • Touring the Country. . .Virtually!

    Funded Feb 11, 2010

What can the class and I say besides "thank you?" Due to your donation, my students have been traveling through the United States! What better way to learn about the country, landforms and history? Using the projector that your generous donations purchased, we are able to experience the United States as never before!

We have also been able to use the projector in other subject areas as well--to help us revise and edit our writing, complete web-quests together and watch educational video clips! This is a donation that will be utilized not only by this class, but many others to follow.

Thanks to your generosity, America's students will have positive and memorable learning experiences! Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mezyk-Mokkapati
