  • Wii Are Ready, Respectful, and Responsible!

    Funded Nov 19, 2010

The students I serve and I are so excited and thankful for the Wii, Wii games and accessories that your generous donation has provided us! Students are so excited to be rewarded with a Wii Party for showing Ready, Respectful, and Responsible behaviors.

The Wii is fun and engaging for students in all grade levels. Students from kindergarten to eighth grade had a blast playing the Wii games. Playing Mario Kart with the race car wheel, making jump shots in the basketball game, and using the nunchuck to ride a bike were highlights for students.

Even while playing the games students were Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. Students took turns, taught students new to the Wii how to play, encouraged others, and cheered each other on!

Students have so much fun playing the Wii at school. Knowing that the Wii is an incentive for displaying positive behavior has helped to build excitement about our School Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) program.

Thank you for helping me reward positive behavior in a fun and engaging way!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schultz

  • Recording the Stories of "Our Town"

    Funded Nov 23, 2010

To simply say thank you to you for your donation to our "Our Town" project wouldn't be beneficial. The project itself was fantastic, and your donation helped us acquire the Flip Video cameras that added an amazing interactive element to the play, and to the whole day's celebration. The students use of the video was creative, empowering, impactful and inspiring. I was so proud to watch them use the tools that you helped us get in such a creative and communal way.

We had over 200 people come to the "Our Town" event at our school, and the crowd ranged from young to old, covered various racial, ethnic and socio-economic groups. It was an inspiration to see our students show such leadership and character as they showed off a part of themselves and their community to the people who visited that day.

I believe that your cameras have helped spark a creative tradition at our school, facilitated by the technology and belief that students can use that technology to make a difference in the community around them. I am incredibly grateful for your support and I can honestly tell you that you made a real impact on the lives of my students. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Snyder

  • Tracing Our DNA Heritage

    Funded Nov 19, 2010

This was by far the most supported project that I have ever posted, and it was by far the most fun, the most education, and the best all around project that I have completed with my class. After collecting our DNA samples and waiting what seemed like an eternity, 5 weeks, our class was able to compare our collective results. Students were separated into 5 different haplogroups based on their maternal ancestors most recent migrations. Then I started a count down through time and the different haplogroups converged based on when they groups had first separated. In the end, at 80,000 years everyone was once again a part of the same group. Students were amazed that their ancestors had traveled such long distances. Other students were surprised at the halpogroups that they were a part of. My haplogroups was common, it is a Native America linage, and many students were surprised that we shared such a close ancestry since I am not a part of their same ethnic group. One student in class found out that their maternal ancestor was from West African, despite her never having known of any African relatives. Altogether this project brought the class together and spurred their imaginations. Thank you once again for giving us this opportunity.”

  • Art Room LCD Projector

    Funded Nov 13, 2010

Thank You all for your generous donations in support of the LCD Projector for my art room. Since receiving the projector my art lessons have been more fun for the students. They LOVE seeing examples of art on the screen and identifying art elements and principles by touching the smart board. A recent lesson with first graders focused on Abstract Art by Stuart Davis. The projector allowed us the opportunity to examine his work and notice how he used letters, shapes, and colors to create his art. Students were inspired by his work and used their weekly vocabulary words as the subject for their own fabulous abstract works of art. The projector also allowed 5th graders to watch an interview with contemporary artist Michael Albert. He spoke from his studio in New York where he creates posters from recycled materials. The students were inspired to create robots from recycled cereal boxes. The most recent use of the projector was a demonstration on "How to use Microsoft Publisher" to create thank you cards. After the demo students worked collaboratively to create thank you cards for donors choose. As they left the art room, I heard them say, "Art was fun today". Thank You all for helping to make my Art Room a 21st century classroom.

    Sincerely, Marie Ebert

    With gratitude,

  • Now You See It! ... Using Technology to Model Math

    Funded Nov 12, 2010

I can't fully express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project! I appreciate your interest in mathematics education, and I know that a document camera will push my scholars even further toward success.

The technology you have funded will enable students to see, explain and apply mathematical concepts to real-world problems. I can't wait to begin to use this resource in my classroom and watch student achievement soar. Thanks again!

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
