  • Much Needed Class Materials

    Funded Apr 11, 2010

When I explained to the students that our request for materials and supplies to support the poetry unit was funded, they were excited. They clapped, jumped up&down, and used so many other words to express there feelings about the materials. Everyday they would ask me when were the supplies coming because they started the poetry unit and they were anxious about having the materials to create their illustrations.

When they supplies arrived, it felt like unwrapping Christmas presents! That is how excited the students were about the supplies. After I removed all the items from the box, one student asked in a very meek voice, " Are these all for us." I informed him that it was and his reply was a very loud, "yes." It bought tears to my eyes. All of you were able to make it possible for my students to achieve excellence in their work. There is a saying the art teacher in my school always quote, " there is an artist in all of us." You all made this true by showing the students people do care about making their dreams come true. I appreciate and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Patterson Moore

  • Learning Through Technology

    Funded Apr 14, 2010

What a difference technology has made in our classroom. Thus far, we have been able to research the catastrophe in the Gulf Coast. The students have learned what an oil spill is and its impact on our environment. We have gone on to math websites where students practiced fractions, and we researched our city council for social studies.

Your contribution has made it possible for my students to extend their learning beyond the textbooks provided by our school. The netbook will continue to provide great learning opportunities for third graders in the 2010-2011 school year.

Thank you again! You have made a difference in a child's life.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. S.

  • Seventh Grade Middle Ages Festival

    Funded Oct 28, 2010

Your generous donation of rolls of paper, construction paper, and glue sticks helped make the Middle Ages "come alive." The interdisciplinary medieval unit began in social studies class. Students used the construction paper and worked in small groups to design the most effective manor. This activity encouraged creativity and cooperation. In reading class, each student used the paper and glue sticks to create his/her own coat of arms. The students used the rolls of paper to create the props, and costumes for their parodies of fairy tales that they had written in language arts. All of these items culminated in a Middle Ages Festival, a modern day talent show in a medieval setting. The coats of arms were used for wall decorations. The rolls of paper were used to cover the risers that were used as peasant tables, as well as additional items needed for the presentation of the parodies.

It is often difficult for students to understand, yet appreciate, history. Your donated materials allowed for hands-on activities and helped make the Middle Ages a memorable time period. Thank you!”

  • Catch and Release Your Story

    Funded May 12, 2010

As the pictures show, my classes have been using the cameras funded through this project to do book trailers for favorite books they have read. The students truly enjoy working with pictures of themselves and others for various projects across the curriculum. I have twelve different sixth and seventh grade sections of classes that now have greater access to this technology thanks to your generous contributions.

As is true of many schools in many states, we will operate on a smaller budget next year and many of the "extras" have to be put on hold. These cameras are a huge addition for our building and will be used by the entire school for capturing the stories of the lives of our children.

Again, thank you for your thoughtfulness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burk

  • Shakin' for Shekeres

    Funded Sep 16, 2010

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations to my donorschoose project! The shekeres and claves arrived more than a month ago, and we have been busily playing African and Caribbean-style music in general music! The kids have had a great time with them! We now have twice as many shekeres, and three times as many claves. This has allowed students to get a turn playing instruments even quicker than before.

The drum took a little longer getting here, due to its size. It just arrived this last week, and boy, were the kids excited! They couldn't wait for me to open the box and see what was inside. The Remo drums come in several different designs, and all the drums we currently own have a kente-cloth design. The new drum has the rainbow design, and the students were thrilled. They have named it the "special" drum. Even though we have a few others the same size, they all want to play the "special" drum.

Once again, thank you. It's great for the kids to know that there are wonderful people out there that care enough to help provide them with the resources they need.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ketoff

  • Books! Books! Books! Reading Can Be Fun!

    Funded Jul 29, 2010

Thank you so much on behalf of my students and myself.I appreciate all your help. Without you, my students would be reading the same books over and over again. The kids were so excited when the books came in, they couldn't wait to read them! I wish you could have seen their faces when they realized they were receiving this generous donation. We use them everyday!

I am so glad you took the time to donate to this cause. A simple letter will never show you the appreciation we have for you. The students could not believe that there are people out there willing to donate to their cause.

Each student I have is unique and their reading abilities vary greatly. With your help, they were able to receive books that interested them and this year, we have ALL students reading books and finishing them each quarter. Again, thank you so much! I appreciate what you have done and I know my students have too. THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cooper

  • J.C. To C.C. Literature Circles

    Funded May 20, 2010

We truly appreciate your generous donation of Chris Crutcher books. Many of the students are struggling readers who grind their way through Shakespeare. Chris Crutcher offers them the same themes in a more accessible format, one in which they can relate to the characters. This course has way too much ancient literature for such a population. The more modern works have truly piqued their interest, so they read. Isn't that the point--READING?

The students also talk more freely about the Crutcher books.

Any non-textbook literature our schools' teachers must purchase from their budget, a budget earmarked for other items too. By the time we finish purchasing the essentials for classroom operations, not much is left for new works of literature.

Your gift to us is a true blessing.”

  • Sharp Minds Need Sharp Pencils!

    Funded Apr 21, 2010

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for your donation to my sharp minds need sharp pencils project There was a slight delay getting the exact pencil sharpens I originally wanted, but it ended up even better than expected. Because of your kind donations, I was not only able to get a high quality pencil sharpener for my room, I was able to give six other classrooms a working pencil sharpener as well. We now have it set up so that each morning the kids are able to sharpen their pencils. Because of the quality of the sharpener, it is rarely necessary to resharpen the pencil throughout the day. If it is needed, it merely takes a few seconds, rather than cranking it by hand only for the lead to break. I am sure it is hard to believe, but the new sharpeners have honestly impacted our learning in that we can get down to business and not worry about breaking pencils. The kids are able to write more and I am able to teach more. :)

I greatly appreciate your understanding of the importance of having high quality pencil sharpeners. :)”

  • Guitars in the Classroom

    Funded Jun 3, 2010

Thank you for donating to my project. I received 4 guitars for my classroom and with the two I already had I am able to conduct meaningful lessons in music.

This year I am challenged with a variety of learners ranging from low ability to grade level. I also have special need included in my class. It can be difficult, at times, to meet all their needs. However, when we play and learn the guitar they all walk away feeling successful. I conduct lessons on the guitars that are helping them in reading, math, social studies, and science.

This modality of learning has had a profound impact in my class. Thank you!”

  • Good Order is the Foundation of All Things

    Funded Nov 2, 2010

Thank you so much for your contribution and commitment to helping with the education of our school children. The leveled book organizer and the leveled books are being used by our first grade students in our elementary. They were so excited to have a new selection of books and to have them organized by their reading level.

It's with your generosity that our school children are able to enhance their learning with new supplies and updated materials. Without the help from people and organizations like yours, many children would not be able to enjoy seeing how others donations can make a difference in so many lives. It is a great lesson for all.

Again, thanks for making it possible for us to obtain the new books and organizer for our room.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Claywell
