  • With Just a Slab of Clay , You Can Make My Student's Day !

    Funded Sep 21, 2009

Thank you very much for the donation you gave to our art program at Northwood High School. My students have created beautiful tiles using the slab roller and the glaze. The students created a large mural that hangs in the hallway. They are currently creating tiles for a bathroom project. After my trip to Morocco, I showed my students the beautiful tile art called Zellige. Students have been designing tiles to improve the look of their bathroom at school. The students have also created masks using the same glazes we received from your gift.

Thank you for funding our project.

    We appreciate your giving!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burwell

  • Scholars Meet Sounds From Around the World!

    Funded Aug 22, 2009

Having world music in our art studio has enabled us to observe, discuss, and even interact with the work of famous musicians in ways that expand the creativity and reasoning skills of the scholar artists beyond expectation!

Discussions centered on what scholar artists see, feel, and thing of when observing words by African artists allows scholars to share and expand their ideas with peers. Theater activities where scholar artists reenact or add to scenes depicted by paintings, sculptures and collages allow them to bring put their thoughts and words in action.

The music is vital reference point during our part of our art making process as well. Viewing, listening and making art enriches lives. Your gift will be used for years to come. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. R.

  • Release The Power Within

    Funded Jan 8, 2010

Our students have begun using the items your donation helped our program receive. The excitement and joy in their eyes tells me how much this means to them. It is hard to express how such a simple thing can help make a program better, but it already has. Their joy for music has grown so much more and I know the process has just begun.

Only one class in our program has gotten the opportunity to experience the new items and I can only imagine what it will be like when everyone has gotten to experience them. The younger students will enjoy these items so much when they are introduced to them this fall.

Thank you for supporting our program! It means so much to me and to our community. The students are getting opportunities they did not have before and it would not have been possible without your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sacco

  • New Perspectives for Our Inner City Kids!

    Funded Dec 14, 2009

I wish to thank you for making a difference in my kids education. I work with low income elementary grade students who are bright and curious but who also deal with the harsh reality of their home situations and surroundings. For some of them, school is the main source of food, emotional support and recreational outlet. Thanks to your gift, all of my kids (420 of them) had the opportunity to use the cameras and learn about photography. They were taught that it is a tool to capture events and memories and a vehicle to express their own view point. They had the opportunity of taking pictures of each other and of using the camera as another art tool to learn about the elements of art such as texture, shapes and forms.

They could not believe that complete strangers had done such a generous gift without expecting anything in return. It reinforce their burgeoning trust in others. Again, I wish to express my deep gratitude and to request that you keep supporting the arts; it is through the arts that many students find an alternate voice to overcome adversity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Torres

  • Marker Board Mania

    Funded Feb 25, 2010

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those who made it possible for our classroom to get a new markerboard. Since receiving it we have used it on a daily basis. This board is a large enough size to accommodate my large class size. We are able to learn notes and symbols. We also spend a lot of time sightreading. I am able to draw examples on the board. The kids are also excited about this board because they like to use it, too. The kids take turns drawing notes or making up sightreading examples. They can look at the board when they come to class and immediately know what we are doing that day. It is a visual reminder for upcoming events, as well. Our school has drastically cut funding from all areas. We are lucky to have a music department at our school. Thanks to your funding, we have hope for the arts.

    Thank you so much,

    Mrs. Lawrence”

  • Aiming For The Stars!

    Funded Jan 14, 2010

Thank you again for your generosity and for taking an interest in the education of my students. My class was so excited to use the camera on projects such as science experiments to creating a pictorial class expectation poster.

They have been able to document the different stages of plant growth and create charts to display for reference. One of their favorite activities was taking pictures of themselves following our classroom expectations. They love to see themselves doing the right thing and it has been such a positive motivator for them.

Our district is currently undergoing serious financial strain, as are many districts around the country, and I sincerely thank you for sponsoring such a wonderful program as Donors Choose.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bisher Nea

  • Aboriginal Scratch Bark Painting

    Funded Jan 1, 2010

I just want to start off by thanking you for your generous donations. Our unit on Aboriginal Art was fabulous. The kids were engaged from day one. You made it possible for them to learn about a new culture and experience one of its art forms. The oil pastels, black tempera, brown kraft paper, and wooden craft sticks were perfect for our art project. My little apprentices' masterpieces turned out beautifully. Thank you for allowing them to have this wonderful experience. I currently have them on display in our school hallways and our public library. One of my students' mother said as soon as he brought his work home she was going to frame it and hang it in their house. How exciting is that?

The economy has not been very nice to alot of us lately, especially our school system. Our school is currently facing major cuts in positions and and funding for our teaching supplies. Thanks donors for your incredible and selfless donations. Without your help, my students would not have been able to enjoy and have this wonderful learning experience. I would like to think that if the Aboriginal artist could see our masterpieces, they would be very proud and honored by what my students learned and accomplished. Thanks again and God bless!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Atkins

  • Good Grief O'Keeffe

    Funded Feb 8, 2010

I owe you guys a big thanks for what you did for my students. The pastel chalks, glitter glue, and glitter paint, that you donated helped my students create beautiful masterpieces. All of my 4th graders used these art mediums you donated in their unit on the great American artist, Georgia O'Keeffe. They created beautiful oversized images like she did. I currently have the artworks displayed in our school hallways. All the staff and students are in awe of these beautiful flowers. They make the school hallways happy and stress-free, just like Georgia O'Keeffe wanted her works to do.

The economy has hit the education systems terribly. Our school is currently facing major budget cuts, without your donations my students would not have been able to create the beautiful O'Keeffe flowers that they did. Without help from generous donors like you, several classrooms would have to do without. In closing, I just want to let you know that your generosity was extremely appreciated. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Atkins

  • Print, Scan and Copy My Art

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

Thank you so much for your donations to my class. Because of your kindness my students have been able to use our Printer, Copier and Scanner to create a wonderful school yearbook to capture their time well spent at school and hold onto the memories forever.

The students love using the color printer to see their designs take life in brilliant color. Having the technology to make copies and scan materials right at our disposal is a huge attribute to assisting the students in producing quality work in a timely manner.

We can not thank you enough for taking the time to think about us and help us make a dream come true.

Thank you again for your time and support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rossi

  • Crafty Second Graders Need Art Aupplies!

    Funded Jan 29, 2010

Hello! I cannot thank you enough for choosing my project to fund. It was like having Christmas in Spring when your package arrived. As I mentioned in my proposal, my school district, like most others in the Bay Area, has faced huge budgets cuts, and we only expect things to be further cut next year. Art is one of those areas that is first to be cut. While my school is fortunate to get the basics (paint, crayons, color pencils, and construction paper) we do not have funds to buy other items that kids love using when doing arts and crafts.

I make sure to do art once a week with my second graders. They were beyond excited to learn we received new supplies. They loved the variety of colors of the oil pastels, did not know construction paper could have glitter, and like having a safe place to dry their art, instead of laying it out on a counter or the floor (to name a few). We have already begun to use the supplies, which you will see in my photos, and the kids have already started requesting projects. Your art supplies have sparked the creative minds that exist in my classroom. Today's kids are under a lot of academic pressure, and they very much look forward to art, where they can relax, have fun, and produce something to be proud of. I am sure you will see how excited they are when you read their letters.

What is also great about your supplies that you donated is that there are enough to last me until next school year as well. So you will be affecting the lives of many second graders.

    Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chalfant
